The Bards' Guild - Let's Sing It One More Time

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

Thank you for the link Lithtaur.

I'm getting a bit confused about the festivals. I want to look into the older festival threads. Where can I find them? Or if anyone would be so kind to put up a link. thank you.

Sidd, if you scroll down that link I gave you then you'll find laureanna had posted links to a bunch of the old festivals. They're mixed in with some other supporting links.

Yes indeed. As long as it is written by you. Anything at all. Typically we do try to stick to the theme of the festival. Spring, summer, April Fools....

Yes, you can share what you like, but to advance, it must be original work. Almost every single one of the poems you saw in those threads (unless otherwise stated) are original work by the bard that posted it. I know there were a couple festivals where I didn't feel up to it and would share a song, but I tried to let the powers that be know that so I didn't advance off of work that was not my own.

Postby siddharth » Sat Feb 23, 2013 12:58 pm

I posted my character bio at the LFI, if you want to look up.

EDITED:
I will just copy paste what I have thought here as well. :)

Name: Sidhlarion Valenar
Nickname: Sid or Sidh
Race: Half-elf from Mirkwood
Age: 155
Father: Eldan, brother of the King of Mirkwood
Mother: Gaelwyn, Sister of the Chief-marshall of Rohan
Weapon: Elvish blade named Thrond.
Bow and arrows.
Other skills He learnt the skill of healing from Radagast the Brown.
Steed: Black female horse named Haefaniel, a gift from Rohan
Musical Instrument: Not decided yet.
Voice: Graceful baritone which can change in intensity in an instant. The elves were very much enchanted while listening to his music in Mirkwood and listened to it without any movement!

Nature
: Introvert and lonely. Cannot befriend others very easily and is especially shy around females.
Usually soft-spoken and very gentle but looses his calm when very angry. At times suffers from depression. He wants to mix with other people but just can't. He very dearly misses his homeland, Mirkwood where he has spent 150 years of his 155 year life!
When he gets excited he uses the phrase "Adh i eryn" which means "by the woods!" (courtesy Xandarien)

I have prepared a history but it is far from finished. So I'll reconsider his history later.

Re: The Bards' Guild - Let's Sing It One More Time

Postby erinhue » Thu Feb 28, 2013 1:18 pm

it has been suggested in the soon to be launched Warrior's Memorial thread's OOC that the Guild turn out for the Memorial for Dirk the Daring who has met his doom in the current Mithril Knight's thread over in The Pony. The suggestion was for the Bards to have a festival as part of this open board RP extravaganza

It would seem to me that the guild would be involved in the memorial for so great a warrior as Dirk and I could be wrong but I think that once upon a once Dirk joined us here in the Bard's Guild and if so the guild would certainly stand up for one of their own, once a bard, always a bard.

If we like this idea what should happen is that you can write yourself learning of the news of Dirk's death and then traveling to/ arriving at the memorial event. At some point in the thread you could write yourself singing a song/poem on the theme of honoring a great warrior/ or the sacrifice he made/ or something fittingly sad for such an occassion.

If we do this I would suggest you do a little reading up on the Memorial thread OOC and thread once Smaug's Bane gets it started, and take a look see at the Battle Wanes and the last few pages of the Mithril Knight's thread that would cover Dirk's death and the Battle and the conclusion that flows into the Memorial thread.

OK that's how I see it working. Any one is welcome to the Memorial thread Warrior/Bards take note it is a Warriors Guild event as well. If we agree to accept this as a festival occassion then any contribution will count. We can not do this and have our own festival, we can do this as individuals, we can do this as a group and have contributions count to guild status or not and still have a festival later. What say ye?

When is hard to pin down. I posted this to put the question to the membership and to give a heads up on what is coming. I have been trying to come up with something suitable but the topic is a hard one, for me and in general. I'm giving time for creation if we did decide to do this.

Smaug's Bane, a member of this guild and Steward of the Mithril Knights, aka The Warrior's Guild will be opening the Memorial thread in his own due time. He was waiting for the battle to end in the Knights' story thread. It has so the memorial can start any time now I guess. Read the first post in the OOC for the Memorial and SB explains his concept. As you read the thread you will see how it goes and think of how to fit yourself in. In the storyline, Erinhue is currently missing since he took off after the battle at Carn Du. He will be found and come to attend the Memorial but I don't know exactly how that will go right now

Unless I hear a dissenting voice, we're a go for the Memorial thread. I've been thinking about how we can do this, what with the GuildMaster presently off dealing with his demons and he won't be with the procession of Knights escorting Dirk back home. The fact that Dirk was also a Bard, the Guild would turn out in an official context. I'm thinking that could be what brings him back and to the Memorial. Hmm that could work.

Alrighty now here's our way in, RP wise. the guild members also get notification of Dirk's death and the coming memorial ceremony. All bards are requested to attend and so you go. Once there, play it as you feel it or you can wait and at some point The Bard will show up to do his duty as Master of the Bard's guild. That will be the opening for anyone that wants to post their festival contribution on a theme appropriate for the memorial ceremony of a great warrior who has died a heroic death at a young age. If you don't want to RP that's OK, just post yourself stepping up and performing your contribution when the Bards Guild presentation is announced We will save the ranking ceremony for posting in here as that would not fit into the context of the Memorial thread. How's that sound with everyone?

As to the rank advances. I no longer have the old records and I just plain do not remember who is ranked what anymore so...
In the meanwhile would everyone here do me a favor. Post giving your status/rank, your title if you have earned one and what rank you hope to attain with your participation. This is the perfect time for anyone seeking the Warrior/Bard title because in the Memorial thread or one of the spin offs, the Warrior's Guild, aka The Mithril Knights will be holding open registration for anyone who wants to saddle up. Membership in the Knights and a rank of Master Bard earns you the title Warrior/Bard. I'll start

Lord Erinhue of Belfalas
Warrior/Bard- Guild Master
Illuvatar's Bright Spirit
Voice: Baritone
Instrument: Agarak, tenor dragonharp

Lithtaur/Lady Lith
Master Bard- I think as of the last Halloween festival I participated in masquerading as Braun's Hollow
Plays a wooden flute

Kinda wondering if Bardwyn and the rest playing in the Dunedain thread have it in mind to start a new guild. If not I might apply for knighthood. :)

Edit- yep Master Bard

Hue- The link I gave Sidd has the records at least accurate in 2006. http://forums.theonering.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=90014
Will that help?

Sid, you are an apprentice so you are already part of the guild. We have had many members that never tried to advance beyond that. As such, you are entitled to all the rights and privilages of any member in good standing, which indeed you are.

The whole advancement/ festival thing started because in real time a bard would earn a reputation as he/she traveled around the land and performed their songs and tales. We cannot do that here so the Bards' Festival was born. With each participation a member advances in rank earning their way up to Master Bard and then Bard of Renown where you choose your own title to go with your name, just as the Master Bard's of old would earn such distinction.

That's right Vana darlin'. I think that you and elengil are the only two to complete the Bard of the Land requirements. If memory serves, and mine often doesn't, I think that Parm and Hidden Ring completed part of the three entry requirements for this.

The MK thread is in the Prancing Pony Role Playing forum. The Memorial should also be there.
