The Hobbits' Cooking Guild

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

He he.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Fear not, people (and halflings), there will be no cooking of hobbits here.
It would be a shame if the best chefs got eaten...Volcanus, stay and tell us how you make cram...else I will.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The purpose of this Guild is to collect as many Middle-Earthian recipes (however vile and putrid they may seem<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>) and put them together in one easily accessible place (webwise as much as I manage it. Unless someone is jumping at the idea of doing a site?)
(maybe this would be a good time to mention that I'm terrible at organizing things, but will do my bestest <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> )

Anyways,my theory is there are as many cuisines in Middle-Earth as there are peoples.Eilona's cookbook idea sounds delicious..(who knows!)..and there will definitely be a sort of booklet made for Guild members.
But we need recipes first.

So send them in.I'll be working on the site..<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0>
This should be an active guild, so try out the dishes at home! And comment on the tastes and possible ingredient substitutes and variations.
Any pictures (in small sizes, svp) of chefs and their masterpieces and how the latter disappear off the table are also very welcome.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

For these, my email: rethe@poczta.onet.pl or rodiaczek@wp.pl

If anyone has any (and I mean ANY) ideas about this Guild, please, input!
If fate allows, we may even meet up someday and have a grand feast...
Though we (me) missed Bilbo's Party this year.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

(Eru help me, what have I gotten myself into.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> )

Okay, people, I got working on the site.

It looks very nice. Rather like a frame with no picture in it, if you get my meaning...

Or , if you don't, imagine a cookbook with blank pages...hm?

So I'll start by putting in a recipe that I got from someone who got it from someone and to be honest I have no idea who Jincey is, but the cakes taste FIIIIIIINE.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
If Jincey is listening and wants none of this, just let me know.

You next.
<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Lembas from Lothlorien
----------------------------------------------------------------------
by Jincey
Ingredients

6 TBSP butter or margarine, slightly softened
2 cups self-rising flour
1 TBSP granulated sugar
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup milk
4 TBSP heavy cream
Mallorn leaves

With a pastry blender of fork, cut margarine into the flour in a mixing bowl until the mixture resembles cornmeal. Do this rapidly so the butter does not melt. Add the sugar and if desired, 1/2 cup of raisins. In a small bowl, beat the egg and milk together until mixed. Reserve 1 TBSP of this mixture to brush the tops of the lembas. Add the cream and egg mixture to the flour and mix just until combined into a stiff, soft dough. Knead three or four times on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough to a 3/4" thickness and cut with an oval or leaf shaped cookie cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet, leaving 1" of space between lembas. Brush the tops of the lembas with the reserved egg-milk mixture. Bake for 12 -13 minutes in a preheated 400 degree oven.

For safe keeping, wrap each lemba individually in a fresh, clean mallorn leaf. If these leaves are unavailable in your area, store the lembas in a tightly closed container. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen lembas.
Hail and Well met to the Cooking Guild!!

I am sorry for not contributing anything of great import, but shall rectify that now.

HOBBITS FAVOURITE SOUP

(LEEK AND POTATO)

1 Tbs olive oil
2 lbs leeks washed and sliced
1 1/2 quarts chicken stock
Salt and Pepper
2 tsp dried each thyme and rosemary(1 tbsp fresh)
1/2 tsp anise seeds
3 bay leaves
2 lbs russet potatoes
2 stalks of celery

In a large pot, saute` the leeks and celery with the oil until softened. Don't allow to brown.
Add chicken stock, a little salt and pepper and herbs.
Peel and slice potatoes adn add to soup. Bring to gentle boil, then simmer until potatoes are well cooked. Remove from heat, puree in a food processor. Pass through a fine strainer.
Reboil in a clean pot and correct seasonings.
Serve in warm bowls garnish with finely chopped thyme.

I personally have never bothered to strain and reheat the soup. Thank you eilona! You are officially proclaimed FIRST CONTRIBUTOR.
And that will be mentioned on the site...Potato soup, yum!
Yum yum.

Volcanus, yeah, I'd love to,but do you expect me to feed the whole Guild? A triple batch of those lemba takes me a whole evening, and it's gone by the time I come home the next day...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> But whenever you're in town you're welcome to drop in.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Pfff...I gotta get organised here.
I'll place eilona's Soup on the site and will *try* to put it up tonight to get started.
