The Hobbits' Cooking Guild

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

Ah, that figures. I knew no rider of the mark would ingest such fell meat. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Rudy, Orcs eat Hobbits <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> and pretty much anything you put in front of them. So if you have any spoiled bacon, rotten maggot ridden meat, or really bad wine don't throw it out give to your local starving goblin foundation . I'm sure they'd appreciate it.
<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Hi there; I am from the Dales and I thought that I would send you a favorite recipe that I learned from a very friendly Dwarf from Under the Mountain. Hope you can use it.

Potato Scones from Under the Mountain

1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cups granulated sugar (plus more to sprinkle)
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. grated nutmeg
1/3 cup unsalted butter, cold
1/2 cup raisins
3/4 cup mashed potatoes
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. In a large bowl, mix all-purpose and whole wheat flours, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg; combine well. With a pastry cutter or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture is the consistency of coarse cornmeal. Stir in raisins. Separate 1 egg and lightly beat the white. In a medium bowl, combine potatoes, 1 egg, 1 egg yolk and milk. Whisk until no lumps remain.
Make a well in the centre of dry ingredients; add potato mixture all at once. Stir with fork to make a soft, sticky dough. Press lightly into a ball and knead gently on a floured surface about 6 times. Roll or pat out dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut into triangles or rounds. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Brush with lightly beaten egg white and sprinkle tops with sugar. Bake 13 to 15 minutes or until golden.

Yields 12 to 16 scones

Hi! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I have not been on TORC much recently. I do have something for the recipes though! This one is for when you are out travelling in the wild and are happened upon by Wargs. You have to give back some of their own medicine! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Ember Roasted Warg

First, kill the biggest meatiest warg that is attacking you. This will usually be the leader of the pack and the rest will back off. Then have this on hand:

8 to 12 pieces of good hardwood kindling
6 slender green onions
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoon crumbled sage
Salt and pepper

In a cooking pit, prepare a hardwood fire.
Using a knife-sharpening steel or long narrow-bladed knife, make six holes, about one inch apart, horizontally through the skinned warg roast.
Push a green onion into each hole.
Rub warg with oil and seasonings.
When flames have died down and coals are red-hot, spread them out into a bed two to three inches wider than the roast.
Place warg directly on hot embers and cook for about ten minutes per pound for very rare, or fifteen minutes per pound for medium-rare. Do not cook more than 20 minutes or it will be as tough as the hardwood you burned.
Turn with tongs every three to four minutes to char it on all sides.
For a less-charred exterior, place it on a grill above the embers.
Serves four to six people, depending on appitite and size of Warg.

(This recipe was actually a buffalo recipe<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>)

Hello and good eating! This is the recipe for my #1 favourite pie, Agnes' Mocha Velvet. I'm not really sure how hobbity chocolate pie is, but when you taste it you won't care!

1/2 c Butter, softened
3/4 c Sugar
1 Square unsweetned chocolate, Melted
1 tsp Vanilla
2 T espresso grounds
2 Eggs

Cream butter in medium-size bowl and gradually add sugar, creaming well after each addition.

Cool melted chocolate; blend into butter-sugar mixture, with espresso grounds and vanilla.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating VERY WELL after each addition. (Use an electric beater or mixer, for you'll need to beat in each egg 5 minutes to make mixture creamy, thick and fluffy.)

Turn into baked pastry shell [I recommend an all-butter crust]; chill 1 - 2 hours. Just before serving, garnish with whipped cream.
LOL Rodia no need to worry! We celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the month of October.
For my neighbours to the south, it is a celebration of fleeing religious persecution and arriving in America safely. It was also a celebration to thank First Nations peoples who helped welcome the pilgrims.

Christmas will be such a blast! Although of the autumnal festivals, I must say Hallowe'en has become my most favourite. Christmas when done correctly is very cool. Talk to all later, happy thanksgiving everyone.

Hello Rodia, I'm pleased to meet you <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I'm the resident Pie Mistress for the Hobbit Alliance, and I very much like this thread and hope to contribute more to it.

I'm afraid hobbitfood.freeserves.com doesn't work for me. The other address comes up fine, and the site looks really good. A couple things I'd like to comment on - should there be an additional recipe under EntWifeLost's listing in Authors [there's an extra bullet]? The grid at the top of the page does look like a tablecloth - very kitcheny <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>. I am right in the middle of a re-read of LotR, and as I come across food quotes, I will send them to you. That would be a very nice page to expand.

That's it, thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Mr.and Ms. Woodley enter the room carrying a large covered vessel.
Smiling broadly Ms. Woodley Removes the cover and producing a sulfur preparation from her pocket, adeptly ignites the contents of the vessel. With a large and very impressive “foof”, we find that Woodley should have placed the vessel on a table or something because the feather his festive blue bonnet is now on fire as well. Pretending not to notice Woodley states out loud.

Welcome gentle peoples of the guild. We Hope you like cherries jubilee.
We are gathered here today to welcome back our dear friend and mentor Ms. Rodia
Of the Cooking Guild , and celebrate the successful updating of the beautiful website that she has been so kind to share with us. (Removes his hat and slaps the flame out on his thigh).
Three cheers for Rodia Hip, Hip, Hooray.
<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
