Teens of Eru - Guild for Christian Teens

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

Teens of Eru - Guild for Christian Teens

Postby LadyLariaien » Sun Nov 30, 2003 11:28 am

I was on the Followers of Eru guild for a while when I relized that we needed a Christian place for teens. So I'm starting it; we'll have the basic same thing as the Followers of Eru but for teens. Bible studies for teens and stuff we can relate to. We have teens here too that can help with problems some one might be going through. Any one can join, any one at all; so long as your a teen.

There is one thing I ask, that we all get to know each other at least a little. So here is a little qusetionare for us all to do. Please ask each other questions (NOTHING that involves your town, age ext.)it will help us get to know one another.

1. What is your fav. food?
2. What is your fav. candy/pop?
3. What is your fav. activity?
4. What is your fav. movie? (if it's LOTR what's your 2nd fav.?)
5. If you were in ME what would you be?
6. What church do you go to?
7. What are your nicknames?(for your username)
Ok please give a small bio of your life if you were in ME and a small bio of your life here(again please NOT your age, where you live, ext.).

And when you post a prayer request if you could please tell us when that request is anwered? I'm going to start posting the prayer requests once a week. Thanks.
~LadyL~

I was wondering what version of the Bible you would like a daily devo to be in, and wether you would like to do 30 days with Jesus or 90 days with Paul.

I also have a little prayer request: A boy at school and church (Wensday night only) likes/liked me and asked me out.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> Problem number one I can't go out; problem two I don't want to go out (with any one not just him); problem three he's younger than me (I'm uncomferable with that).<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> He had my sister ask me out for him; I like it when they ask me out themselves (I'm not holding that against him) so I figured it's only logic that I give him my answer myself. The only time I've seen him was on Monday and today. He completly egnored me Monday,<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> so I wrote him a note today, he's still egnoring me.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0> I really like him as a friend (I didn't put that in the note my dad said it's the 'kiss of death' for a guy). I guess what I'm trying to ask is that you pray that I know how to handle the problem without hurting him too much. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> Thanks
In the Lord,
~LadyL~
-Err- I almost feel a little strange doing this, but here goes nothing I suppose <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

My favorite food is . . . well I have a few, pro'ly deer steak or crawfish pie.
My Favorite candy is snickers, pop is Mountain Dew, by far <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
My Favorite activity is Cowboyin with my Dad, Yep you got it I'm a Cowboy -err- girl <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>
My Favorite Movie is The Man From Snowy River o and I like Conager too <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
If I were to live in ME I would probably be an Half-Elfling . . . yeh know? My personality fits both at times and i guess I get teased about having hobbit feet . . . so there you have it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
I go to two churches, the First Christian and the Assembly of God.

My Bio of my life in ME is pretty simple, my character goes by the name of Shane Elfsheen. I'm an Elf who has fallen from the light and have worked in the service of Minas Morgul since I was an Elfling, hence the Dark Elf of ME. I'm in the service of the Nazgul (I take care of all their light work <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>) I'm the most feared, yet well respected Elf in ME at this point in time. I'm also the leader of the Elven Knights, which is contradicting my character because she is in the service of evil yet helps those of the light because she feels she owes the Elves something for the suffering her allegiance has caused so many. Assassin as well as just plain Evil go along with all that, yet my character is always in a struggle with herself because being around other Elves has shown her how badly she really wants to change her ways and be like them, yet she knows that this is impossible to accomplish because she has already chosen to be cast from the light and can never go back.

My bio in reality, however is much different from that in fantasy land. I live in the states, mid west, I guess, on my dad’s ranch/trucking company. We run cattle and sheep and I break colts (forgive the term I really don’t break their spirit or anything it’s just the term we use) or train horses if you will, my dad raises cattle and hauls cattle for a living. I also have a younger brother, by two years, who is ornery as they get <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> nad a step-mum who I love very much despite everything. I’m sorta knew to the Christian faith you might say having been saved just in August, though I've always believed, I just never knew there was more you could do than just believe . . . And I guess that’s about all I can tell you : )

Hi, folks. I think your guild is a really wonderful and uplifting idea. Please make sure, though, that you go about this in a very safe manner. If you would please include in the first post of the thread an admonition to your members. Celebrate and worship but in doing so, please don't ever give out your ages, real names or the places where you live (beyond the country, if possible). We want you to enjoy each other's company but we want to be sure that you don't give away anything about yourselves that can be used by a predator to harm you.

Thanks <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

This is some thing my mom had me read (for school). I really enjoyed it and thought you might like it as well. It's from, 'No Wonder They Call Him the Savior' by Max Lucado. The first chapter: Final Words Final Acts;
In a recent trip to my hometown I took some time to go see a tree. ”A live oak tree,” my dad had called it (with the accent on ‘live’). It was nothing more than a sapling, so thin I could wrap my hand around it and touch my middle finger to my thumb. The West Texas wind scattered the gall leaves and caused me to zip up my coat. There is nothing colder than a prairie wind, especially in a cemetery.
“A special tree,” I said to myself, “with a special job.” I looked around. The cemetery was lined with elms but no oaks. The ground was dotted with tombstones but no trees. Just this one. A special tree for a special man.
About three years ago Daddy began noticing a steady weakening of his muscles. It began in his hands. He then felt it in his calves. Next his arms thinned a bit.
He mentioned his condition to my brother-in-law, who is a physician. My brother-in-law, alarmed, sent him to a specialist. The specialist conducted a lengthy battery of tests--blood, neurological, and muscular-- and he reached his conclusion. Lou Gehrig’s disease. A devastating crippler. No one knows the cause or the cure. The only sure thing about it is its cruelty and accuracy.
I looked down at the plot of ground that would someday entomb my father. Daddy always wanted to be buried under an oak tree so he ought this one. “ Special order form the valley,” he had boasted. “Had to get special permission from the city council to put it here.” (That wasn’t hard in this dusty oil field town where everybody knows everybody.)
The lump got tighter in my throat. A lesser man might have been angry. Another man might have given up. But Daddy didn’t. He knew that his days were numbered so he began to get his house in order.
The tree was only one of the preparations he made. He improved the house for Mom by installing a sprinkler system and a garage door opener and by painting the trim. He got the will updated. He verified the insurance and retirement policies. He bought some stock to go toward his grandchildren’s education. He planned his funeral. He bought cemetery plots for himself and Mom. He prepared his kids through words of assurance and letters of love. And last of all, he bought the tree. A live oak tree. (Pronounced with an accent on ‘live.’)
Final acts. Final hours. Final words.
They reflect a life well lived. So do the last words of our Master. When on the edge of death, Jesus, too, got his house in order:

A final prayer of forgiveness
A plea honored
A request of love
A question of suffering
A confession of humanity
A call of deliverance
A cry of completion

Words of chance muttered by a desperate martyr? No. Words of intent, painted by the Divine Deliverer on the canvas of sacrifice.
Final words. Final acts. Each one is a window through which the cross can be better under stood. Each one opens a treasury of promises. “So that is where you learned it,” I said aloud as though speaking ot my father. I smiled to myself and thought, “It’s much easier to die like Jesus if you have lived like him for a lifetime.”
The final hours are passing now. The gentle flame on his candle grows weaker and weaker. He lies in peace. His body dying, his spirit living. No longer can he get out of bed. He has chosen to live his last days at home. It won’t be long. Death’s windy draft will soon exhaust the flickering candle and it will be over.
I looked one last time at the slender oak. I touched it as if it had been hearing my thoughts. “Grow,” I whispered. “Grow strong. Stand tall. Yours is a valued treasure.”
As I drove home through the ragged oil field patchwork, I kept thinking about that tree. Though feeble, the decades will find it strong. Though slender, the years will add thickness and strength. Its last years will be its best. Just like my father’s. Just like my Master’s. “It is much easier to die like Jesus if you have lived like him for a lifetime.”
“Grow, young tree.” My eyes were misting. “Stand strong. Yours is a valued treasure.”
He was awake when I got home. I leaned over his bed. “I checked on the tree,” I told him. “It’s growing .”
He smiled.

Hope you like it.
~LadyL~

That was beautiful, LadyL. Thank you for sharing it.

I just noticed this guild today. May I please join?

1. Vegetable soup with sauteed sweet onions and borsellini.
2. Scharffen Berger's nibby bars.
3. Spending quality time with my parrotlet (the little guy in my sig!) and writing fantasy/sci-fi.
4. The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain, though I did rather enjoy POTC, Pentagon Wars, and Underworld.
5. A werewolf.
6. Roman Catholic.

Well, as you can see by my sig, there are a lot of different ME "mes" running around out there. Each one is a different side of my personality, I think. My favorites are Ngwaw and The Other Aiwe. Ngwaw is a teenaged werewolf who's trying to figure out just what he believes in and who he stands for and is always pondering those Big Questions. Aiwe is a healer from Far Harad, who is open-minded, kind, and always ready to learn something. She's a better woman than I, though, which is why I admire her. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

As for RL, I live with my parents and older brother (all of whom I love dearly), my precious little parrotlet and three wonderful Shelties, as well as some tropical fish and a puffer named Kismet, and assorted pet plants. I love to be with my family and pets, read (Discworld!), write, RP on TORC, and play computer games that involve brain cells rather than bullets. I'm a vegetarian, a proponent of community education regarding pet parrots and wild birds, a former wild-bird rehabber, a pacifist, and I try hard to be a Catholic though I know I fail at it pretty often. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

--Aiwe

Wow, that was wonderful LadyL . . . truly <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

So . . . should we have prayer requests or somethin of the sort? Or should we just chat amongst ourselves about when we were saved or somethin of the sort? Or does it even matter what we talk about? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I'm truly curious . . .

I posted a request earlier, and I think we can talk about anything really. We can ask for other advice in stuff and all.
Speaking of I would like your alls help. I was thinking after church (I know thinking hurts <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>), we had watched a Beth Moore video and she had talked about eating the kiwis and papias (I'm a terrible speller) instead of apples and bannanas every day. I asked my mom if the adult part of chriatians are eating kiwis and papias then why are they feeding us (teens and younger/older people) apple and bannanas.
What I'm getting to is were is the fun and joy in being a christain, so I need your help in thinking of things that will make it more fun for us.
Thanks,
~LadyL~

I have a really big question...k, I live about 45 minutes away from my church. It's a really great church, but I'm not invloved...at all. I love God and Jesus and pray every night...but it's become almost like a duty rather than a pleasure. I wanna serve God A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN I AM NOW. But I do believe with all my heart Jesus died for my sins. And I do ask for forgivness for my sins. So although I don't read the Bible everyday or am not currently involved in the church...I am saved right?

Please pray for my confidence (i'm rather shy) so that I will not be so afraid to go to the youth group...I really wanna meet new friends who will enable me to grow stronger in my faith. Thnx + much love

Hey there fireworks! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I can only say the same as everyone else...you are totally saved if you believe in God and choose to follow him...thats what so great about Christianity. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> You don't have to read your Bible every night or go to church to be a Christian- It just brings us closer to God.

I'll deffinitely pray that you'll get the courage and confidence to start going to YG and make some friends there. I used to be a shy person so I totally know where you're coming from...now I'm a lot more outgoing. People will want to get to know you more if you're a person with confidence. Once you make some friends there, you'll be able to have friends with the same beliefs as you.

Also, usually when I start to pray or read my Bible and be serious with God...I don't wanna stop. If you just set time aside to do it, it will become more than just a chore. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Of course, being the thickheaded person that I am...I don't always take my own advice <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

Hello, Fireworks. I'm rather shy too, in RL, and also have trouble feeling connected sometimes. What I find helpful are writing and works.

I'm a Catholic, and Catholic doctrine recognises justification (being saved) by faith and works together. Protestants recognise justification by faith alone. I have faith, and I choose to believe in God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit, but I have trouble feeling really connected through faith alone, so I try to do works when I can--volunteering, community service, helping where help is needed. One of my and my mother's favorite quotes of the Bible comes from James: "Faith without works is dead." And indeed, when I don't actively go out of my way to do works, my sense of faith feels dead inside. Prayer and Mass by themselves aren't enough always enough to keep me feeling connected.

I'm not telling you to convert to Catholicism or anything like that, I just wanted to share with you my way of getting in better touch with spirituality. I know how hard it can be for a shy person to get out into the community and work with a bunch of strangers, though. I highly recommend working with animals--you'll meet some other shy, quiet, thoughtful types like yourself in those jobs. I worked for several years as a wild-bird rehabber, and found it immensely fulfilling and educational to boot. Raising a clutch of orphaned chickadees was an experience I shall always treasure--especially the sight of all five on the day they were released back into the wild. Such fragile, amazing creatures always make me marvel and remember the Hand of God in the world around me. Also, when helping animals, you can also help people through education, helping them to learn how to keep God's Creation beautiful and safe for all His creatures. Right now I volunteer (not often enough, though, these days) with a local companion-parrot rescue, where the primary goal is low-cost, high-quality education for prospective or current parrot owners. I find that work very fulfilling. And when I look at my own little parrot, he often makes me think of God and what beautiful gifts He has bestowed on me--family, health, education, and a little bird who always delights my heart.

Another way I volunteer is by taking my dog, a Sheltie, to nursing homes and extended care facilities. It's really a wonderful thing to see elders with dementia, senility, Alzheimer's, or other terrible illnesses brighten up when they see a friendly doggie coming their way. My job is simply to hold the leash, and Gracie works her magic. Elders and patients will talk to her and to me; once I brought her over to an elderly gentleman and as he stroked her I was treated to his entire life's story as it related to dogs. I could tell that seeing Gracie made him very happy. In that sort of volunteer work, what's most important is knowing your dog and knowing how to sit and listen. It really is a wonderful feeling to know that you've brightened the day of someone who you don't even know. Animals are a gift from God, and just as we can help them, they can help us. That sort of thing is what strengthens my faith and helps me to see God's smile in everything.

As for writing, I like to sort of rant in my journal now and then. It helps me to figure out just what I believe in. God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Saints, obviously, but what do I believe concerning abortion? War? Death? Creation? Evolution? I find it helpful to argue these questions out with myself on paper, to make some sense of it and try to come to a conclusion if I can. Firm foundaitions of belief help my faith to stand strong. I'm of the opinion that faith should be questioned. It's like exercising a muscle, or the storm winds that bow the trunk but make the oak grow strong. I don't do this sort of thing often, but it helps when I do.

I hope that helps you out a little, Fireworks.

--Aiwe

Yeah, I'm Catholic too, I just find my apologetics(sp?) lacking...heh...havn't been to CCD in a few months...

I know my religion, I study the stuff everyday...I even am taking a Scott Hahn (super yawn) course with some of my friends...but they're so bloody loud, and I'm laughing so bloody hard at their antics...heh...we don't get much out of the thingy...(we're usuing the videos for our class, in my friend's home). We did learn one thing, that I pointed out: These tapes are God, for they are eternal and keep going, and going, and going...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I know, we have REAAALLLY wierd senses of humor...

But my religion book is good, I think it's called...Our Goals and our Guides, or something...or that's the name of the series...but it's about our Quest for Happiness, this book I'm studying now. It's really good. Though I hate when they try to explain the Trinity...I mean...gosh! I get headaches reading/listening to people trying to explain it. All I know and want to know is: It's one God, three divine Persons, God the Father God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit Three in One. And that it's one of those strict mysteries that we'll never understand until God himself reveals it to us. So why do we even TRY to explain it, eh?

Ok...I'll shut up now <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>...I need to go to confession this thursday...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Pip

let me share my 2 cents! PippenTookMyFirework sometimes religion does feel like a duty.. but i believe that when that happens there is only one thing to do about it.. Tell God how you feel about it!
Hereare some talk that was given at my group about prayers that really reap results. The links is called 'The 5 before and after prayers' and 'when God seems distant'. The links are at the veeeery bottom of the page. If you're interested and the link doesnt work, tell me and I'll post it here.

But most importantly, as an answer to your question; of course you are saved!
