Teens of Eru - Guild for Christian Teens

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

PippenTookMyFireworks, unfortuately I can't say that you are. In my church,we beleive that someone has to be babtised before they are saved.'Babtised' meaning fully submerged in water, not just water being sprinkled or poured on your head.

Why hello! Im a newbie here but I was reading through this and I would definatly like to add my say and ask a couple questions as well<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

PippinTookMyFireworks- Yes I believe you are saved and I believe every Christian struggles with feeling that your belief is sometimes a duty, but I also believe that when we do not give up during those times and rather draw near to God it makes us stronger because of it. "Draw near to the Lord and he shall draw near to you." I can't remember where that is found but I remember reading it recently.

elf-maiden- I can't help but find this intriguing(however you spell that word). For in my church we only sprinkle water over our heads. This is the way that both my parents and my sister were baptised, and I myself have not yet been baptised. I do believe that I am saved and even though I have not been baptised, and if I died tomorrow I believe that I would be going to heaven. Are there any particular verses that proove your church's theories about baptism?

Alright here are my favs.

1. taco salad
2. candy= cherry twists pop=root beer
3. riding
4. Pirates of the Carribean
5. I would like to live in Rohan somewhere, that is all.
6. I attend Kleefeld Evangelical Mennonite Church

Now I have a question of my own.

Do you believe dating non believers or non Christians is wrong?

thanx,
sister in Christ,
Alaklainiel

Hello! Welcome to the guild!

To answer your question, here's my thinking: It isn't wrong. Nor do I think Catholics dating Protestants, Anglicans dating Baptists, etc. and so on is wrong. Certainly, if it went further than dating into the realm of marriage, there would be some considerable difficulties to work out--what religion do you raise the kiddies with? Would the two members of the marriage always be trying to convert the other to their system of belief, adding tension and stress to the union? What sort of marriage ceremony would you have, for both man and wife to feel "legal"? This would certainly be difficult. But, if you truly love someone of a different belief system than your own, and he respects your belief and you respect his, I think it could work out. It would be a bumpy road, but not an impassable one.

I've found it very enlightening to talk with my good friends who aren't Catholics. I had a friend who was atheist/agnostic and became Buddhist (our beliefs on certain issues were diametrically opposed, so we were always debating with each other), several staunch atheist friends, and right now my best friend is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon church). I think if I were to date/marry a non-Catholic, it would be difficult but not impossible. Anyone I would date would need to be very close to my beliefs, though, i.e., there is a higher power; abortion, the death penalty, and all other forms of killing are wrong except in the rarest of circumstances (this is my belief--I don't want to start an ethical argument on this thread. I've seen to many Manwë threads turn nasty on these subjects. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> ), sins can be forgiven in the community, and the other tenets of my belief system that are fundamentally important to me. Though a fellow Catholic would certainly be able to share these beliefs with me, I wouldn't completely exclude a relationship with a non-Catholic. The world is full of wonderful people who don't believe in the same exact stuff I do.

That's just my two cents, though. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> What are other members' thoughts on this?

--Aiwe

P.S. Hi there, aidana! Yes, you do look familiar, my dear elf... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

hey i really hope this is going to the right spot or somebody's going to be lost lol....my two cents on the issues of dating outside of the faith is this...it's a bad idea.....i say this partly from alot of personal exeperience(it only takes me running into walls a few dozen times before i move lol) and partly from a few verses try 1st corinthians 15:33 2nd corinthians 6:14 1st john 2:15...hope i helped lol
Like Aiwe said the same goes for different religions.
And I believe that if any one is a born again christian (asked Jesus into their hearts) they don't need any thing else. By the love they have for Jesus and God they will want to do right. Not saying that it will be easy. And that baptisom is a symble to the world what you believe. I know other are different and I don't plan on arguing with them.

I'm sooo glad that this is going good and that others can get advice here. Jesus died to save us all, but we have to save ourselves, as well. That's SOO great about this mystery. Christ allows us to participate in the act of redemption. Ok...here's an example...even though Christ saved us on the cross, and you knew this, and you went out stealing, killing, yada yada, and all the worst crimes imaginable, and disobey the ten commandments, and everything that offends your relationship with man and God, and you're not sorry one bit, I don't think you would go to heaven, or Purgatory (I know some of ya don't believe in it, but I do), because you have to be sorry with all of your heart for those sins, ask God for forgivness, and pay for those sins that you comitted. Paying for them is like showing that you ARE truly sorry, and that you love God enough to pay for what you did. I know Christ already payed for our sins, but he was showing how much he loved us, now it's out turn to truly show him how much we love him.

Pip

different denominations disagree amongst themselves.. its' what makes them well different denominations!! but I think that if you act according how you truely belive is right then you are saved.
What I mean is that if you belive that to be saved you have to do your duty, love God ect, and that's what you do, then you're saved, and if you believe that to be saved you have to be fully submerged in water and you seek to do that, then you're fine
As long as you do what you truely believe is right.

I know it's frustrating but you have to remember that you aren't in control, God is. Sometimes it feels like you want to do something more to help, and it doesn't seem like prayer is working, but you gotta keep doing it. It hurts when someone says something like that to your face but just remember everything is in God's hands. I will pray for you both.

Théowyn <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Geek55, it sounds like you're in a tough situation, and if I had a friend that denounced God like that in front of my face, I probably couldn't handle it. But God's put her in your life for a reason, and you can handle it, because God will give you the strength to when you depend on Him. The fact that you are still friends with her means you have been given an opening to be a witness. Obviously right now it's going to have to be a silent witness. It also sounds to me like she's not willing to accept the fact that your beliefs are radically different than hers. Have you tried talking this out with her? I'll pray for you!

Namarie!
~Alassemiire Arineel

Greek: I'm not really sure but maybe tell her that just as she doesn't like it when you talk about God you don't like it when she diowns him. I asked my mom and she said that she would keep praying but that this friend is trying to change you because she doesn't like Jesus in you, so she isn't friends with you for what you are. I'm also going to ask my youth leader to night and get back to you.

Welcome all, I shall try to put you and the members list today or tommarow.

~LadyL~

I know this has nothing to do with the conv. going on, but here's some neat advice:

If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans for life.

hehe, I have an example of that too, right here in my own family. My second oldest sister was a battlion commander in JROTC, and she wanted to go to a nice college, and yada yada, well, the very day she put her application in with CTC (a college a few minutes away from here) she went to Nashville for a retreat with the Nashville Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia's congregation (this was her b-day too, btw) and she came back, and in august, she joined the order of Dominicans, and is now about to start her student teaching. She didn't even want to teach, I don't think, and she was AFRAID of little kids, like 4 and five year olds. Well, now she loves them, and will be teaching second graders. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Pip

Hey all just wanna thank everyone for their support. And I wanted to say that I'm not completely shy (don't get the wrong impression because I'm outgoing w/ friends), it just takes me a while to warm up to people and be myself. And to Geek: you can only pray in matters like this. Trust God...I know its hard to wait. But God has perfect timing. I know that doesn't help much, but keep the faith. God works miracles. I'll pray for your friend.

ROTK IS ABSOLTULEY THE BEST MOVIE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!!!
*cries at end as Frodo sails away
