The Dwarves Guild

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

...J_F...*shakes head*

Your sig pic is... I often wonder about what goes through your head. Yes, that's about as board appropriate as I can be. It'd be interesting. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0> )

As for orc hunting and legal proceedings, either one sounds lots of fun.

Oh...and the Mirkwood elves want to battle w/ dwarves and J_F? Aren't they glad to be rid of him? Why are they coming back for more abuse.

Stupid elves.

Well, all the other Dunédain are drunk off their gore-encrusted boots. I might as well leave them to their fun. Stupid Lent. <- Wait, I'm not Catholic. Why am I not drunk off my...oh yea. Don't answer that one Lark. I sure you already know how everyone would react.

Anyway, I seem to be doomed to patrol this area for awhile. My kin are off to Minas Tirith to raze, I mean raise, the place. From what I know, Eomer's there and he knows how to throw one Hell of a party. But the last time I went to Rohan...Yea. So, I was going to offer my company and such to the Dwarven Guild.

Toodles,
Riot-Ranger of the North

Which way is north? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0>

Well then, I'll pay those of Mirkwood a short visit so that we may sort out the details of a meeting of the minds. I will return with the details as soon as possable (thist will likely be a RP thing). Then we can relax with a good hunt, sound good to satisfy all? Ok then, lark, you and Riot make sure J_F doesn't draw weapons during the contest or aginst the elves unless they ask for it. If they ask for it, turn him loose and J_F, if they do let you go, have at it. Otherwise, be a good boy and sayd your blade for the orcs.

return soon

-WW

...Crazy? That can mean so many things. I suppose all that time alone in the wilderness did give me a rather unique perspective on life, but when the most conversation you get, is either with gibbering orcs, yourself, or (I'm not kidding) trees...it tends take its toll. The tree were talking, I swear. I'm not crazy.

OK, maybe just a little. Maybe the trees were't really talking. I'm still not exactly sure.

As for the ranger grime, it does come off...I suppose if we're not going into battle any time soon, as it seems to be, I can go take a nice hot bubble bath. Forget the bubbles Riot, you'll just have to bring your ranger grime with you. I'm tired of waiting.

I think J_F said something about cuting through Mirkwood and then heading for the Grey Mountains. Pay attention Riot. I offered, several posts ago, for WW to ride with me. My horse is one of those big, gentle draft types that can easily bear two riders. Don't let his size fool you though. He can move when he needs to and he fears nothing.

As far as stealth goes, we all know how much noise you make. Riot went out foraging this morning and found a beehive stuffed with honey. When she cut it down from the branch, though, it landed on her head and exploded, covering her entire upper body with goo and waking the dormant bees. She had to high tail it back here, and every twig, dead leaf and chunk of moss between here and there got stuck to her. She looked like an ent!"

"And of course she was followed by a storm of angry hornets. All of us, especailly 'BeeBeard' had to take refuge under the Forest River until they left. We are trying to dry our things out...she is still down there trying to get it out of her hair."

J_F- " An auspicious beginning...we are off to a slow start, and must keep moving if we are to reach the spot I have in mind by sundown tomorrow. **on the evening of the second day camp was set near the origin of the Forest River, at the feet of the Ered Mithrin. An area of fens, bogs, swamps, marshes, salt springs, tar pits and sulphur flats, it gives birth to both the Forest River and the Greylin, and is often frequented by the minions from Mount Gundabad.

The day's journey was uneventful, other than the Riot's getting a foot caught in a stirrup and being dragged raw for a furlong. J-F returns to the camp after a late night scouting expedition.**

Lark- 'There he is. Did you find anything?'

J-F- 'A little of this and a little of that. First there was this-**produces a spear that has two goblin heads, complete with flabbergasted expressions, neatly skewered upon it through the ears**, 'and then there was that...'
**throws from his horse a red and black mottled salamander nearly four feet in length.**
'This is an Angamander, and a small one, at that. I have seen them five times this size. They have two glands on the side of the head that are filled with toxin that would kill a mumak. The goblins use it to tip their arrows.
At this time of year they are moving back into the swamps and can be taken (with caution) in the shallows.
The goblins will try and take them just before sunrise...we can hunt the hunters.'
The tails also make a tasty appetizer, lightly battered and served with a Hollandaise sauce...but we must be moving to set a proper trap...'
*tightens bandages*

It's merely a fleshwound.

A furlong is an eighth of a mile, isn't it? Rangers do too ride! Read 'The Passing of The Grey Company' from The Return of the King. There were mounted rangers all over that chapter.

**Back into character**

After a very long night of thunder storms, J_F snoring and Riot complaining about J_F snoring, Lark is unable to sleep. wrapped in a wet cloak, she sits against a tree. The two orc heads, J_F brought back, leer at her from the stump they wrere left on.

**Yuck**

Suprised by a rustling sound, she looks up and sees a black squirrel jumping from tree to tree.

**sigh**

Just a squirrel. Suddenly, a gigantic spider drops quietly into the midst of the company. It begins to move silently to the sleeping J_F.

"Look out!" She yells as she goes for her sword.

Immediately, the beast comes at Lark with terrifying speed, but before she can even get to her feet, J_F has sunk two arrows into it, and Riot is finishing it off with her sword and a few choice words.

J_F *cheerfully* "I guess the spiders are out early this year."

Lark "I hate Mirkwood."

***there were about 50 goblins in the group we came upon, a few spotters in the river and the rest divided upon either shore. They had huge barbed hooks tied to ropes for snagging the myopic giants.
I crossed downstream to the far side and waited for the attack signal, which Riot wisely changed from the call of a nightingale to a violent sneeze. Shrewd.
With a leap I was behind the first goblin and drove my shortsword straight down into the top of his head with my left hand, while relieving it of it's spear with my right. He made a real funny sound. The spear immediately found a new home in the neck of the first orc that turned about.
I drew my second sword with my right hand, then immediately had to parry a wild, slashing stroke from a long armed brute with my left. I skewered him once through the giblets with my right, then came straight up with the same blade directly under his chin. Unfortunately, it became stuck fast in his lower mandible; I shook it hard two or three times (and it sounded real painful) but it would not release. I had to let it go to avoid losing my forearm to another attacker, whose cut relieved the first fellow of his leg below the knee.
I think my forehand glanced off of his helmet, but the backhand must have faced him, because he fell to his knees and covered his face with both hands. This allowed me a nice two handed swing, which clove through his rusty mail and sent his fell head to straightaway center in a shower of sparks.
I sidestepped one of the giant hooks they tossed at me, then turned to face the dozen that still apporached...***
Heh, I've just designed my little web blog. Anyway, what I meant was, I'm not from Rohan, riding is not my specialty, and I know me...and I know me does not know how to ride. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

*Back on topic*

Riot: "Weariness? Nay! I have managed to overcome the Herculean task of not fainting during the most agonizing of pains! Yes, daily I subject myself to the gauntlet run by rotting, feeble minds and oppressive tendencies! I refuse to give up! I cannot give up! (for fear of being prosecuted for truancy, you know) This weariness of the flesh is nothing in comparison to the weariness of the mind!"

*swings her sword a little too hard, for emphasis, and nearly lops of J_F's melon*

"On second thought, this weariness is having a rather negative effect on my discipline. Yes, some back up would be nice. Just to ensure everyone makes it out safely. If someone passes that little cusp into berserker rage, things might not be so pleasant. What of friend? What of foe? Worm chow, I say. Not that I have positively classified J_F as either."

*Riot drives her bloody boots into a downed orcs guts before enlarging his nostrils*

"I say, that was rather unsanitary..."

Riot

***another goblin takes a lunge at me with a pike: I quickly relieve him of his weapon and his forearms. The rest have fallen back and are trying to encircle us. No, wait: drops flat as arrows whistle overhead.
Crouches and serpentines to Lark: Ah! Starlit Shieldmaiden!***

"We must make for the opposite bank: it is steep and will be easily defended." Lark scoots off.
"Riot! Cease thy mutilating and follow Lark!"

***A single goblin is trying to get between me and the river: I run straight for him and he backs off, out of striking distance. It is hopping up and down, screaming and waving it's ridiculous little cutlass.
It's screaming stops: it's mouth has sprouted feathers. It falls forward onto it's face, revealing the shaft and head of Riot's arrow which has neatly severed it's brain stem. She has reached the near bank and is covering our retreat.
Dropping down beside her, I see that Lark has almost reached the opposite shore: no sign of any orcs, did they all cross to this side when the fun started?***
