The New Hobbit Alliance-- TO WAR! DEATH TO THE ORCS!

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

Ranks:

Shire-moot:
The Thain: HobbitArchitect

Master of Buckland:

Mayor (Post-master and First Shirriff): Rosie

The Watch
Bounders: Jonathan

Shirriffs: Lim (Second Shirrif)

Hobbitry-in-arms:

Messenger Service: Ruby (PostHobbit)

Wardens of the Westmarch: Rosie (TowerWatch)

Other Occupations (name a job):Nimrodel (Disturber of the Peace)
Aree (Cook/Baker/Brewer)
Wimsie (Gardener)
Mira(Cook/Brewer/Barmaid/Gardener)

Note: at any time in lack of defense, you can be drafted to the Hobbitry

Descriptions:

Shire-moot: A meeting of Hobbits. The Shire-moot was summoned to
discuss important matters in times of emergency, which were rare. The
Thain was the master of the Shire-moot.

The Thain: The nominal authority in the Shire in the absence of the King.

Master of Buckland: Head of the Brandybuck family. The Master of
Buckland had authority over the inhabitants of Buckland on the east side
of the Brandywine River. His authority was also recognized by many of
the farmers in the Marish on the west side of the river. In truth, since
the Shire had no real government structure, the Master's authority was
fairly limited, but he was accorded a special respect.

The Mayor: Elected official in the Shire. The Mayor was the only real
government official in the Shire, though his duties were fairly limited.
The Mayor was the Postmaster of the Messenger Service and the First
Shirriff of the Watch. Otherwise, his main duty was to attend official
banquets on holidays. The Mayor was elected every seven years at the
Free Fair at Lithe in Midsummer. His office was in the Town Hole in
Michel Delving in the Westfarthing.

Bounders: The Shirriffs who patrolled the borders of the Shire to ensure
that Outsiders did not cause trouble were called Bounders. They varied
in number according to need.

Shirriffs: Police force of the Shire. The Mayor of Michel Delving oversaw
the Shirriffs, and in this capacity he was called First Shirriff. There were
three Shirriffs in each of the four farthings of the Shire for Inside Work.

Shire-muster: The mobilization of the Hobbitry-in-Arms. The Shire-muster
was the duty of the Thain and occurred only in times of emergency,
which were rare.

Hobbitry-in-arms: Militia in the Shire. The Hobbitry-in-Arms were under
the authority of the Thain. They were summoned - most likely by way of
the Shire-muster.

Wardens of the Westmarch: The Wardens of Westmarch resided at
Undertowers. They kept control of the western farthing.

Messenger Service: Postal service in the Shire. The Postmaster was the
Mayor of Michel Delving. The Messengers were numerous because
Hobbits enjoyed writing to their friends and relations.

Other occupations: You choose a job for yourself, such as a gardener,
butcher or an inn-keeper.

RP:

At the end of the Battle of Bywater, all evil passed from the Shire. But it was temporary. Soon after the death of King Elessar the evil that fled to the mines of the Blue Mountains came forth again. This time it was a strong force. The elves had passed from Middle Earth, and men had domain. It was up to the hobbits to defend the west from this new evil.

Nah I'm not so good with the leadership thing not to mention I hate politics. Besides it'd be kind of wierd to be the mayor for hobbiton and not be a hobbit. Perhaps you could make a postion like the one Gandalf had. Yes I think I would like to be the offical disturber of the peace.

The Village Idiot? :x Eh I suppose thats all a jester was and jesters did shoot off fireworks and stuff. Why not?:P I'll be an entertainer either way.:P

Why didnt you choose to be a Shirrif or Something?

I don't like cops. Not to mention I have that bad habit of breaking rules and that wouldn't be so good when it comes to Shirrif.:P

Maybe be in the Hobbitry-in-arms,

I suck at war posts. This position would be all wrong for me.

or if you want to have a quiet jo, be a gardener.

Gardening? I dunno seems kind of sissy to me.:P And it doesn't really fit me anyways.:P

I think I'll like being disturber of the peace.:D After all its what I do best. Thanks for already putting me up there. Very efficent.:D

Okay, now I will be a Hobbit. Call me Aree. Yeah.

So, um, what am I going to be HA?
I have no clue, soo......Wait!
I think I'll take an OO.
I'll be a cook. I have a bakery, and I make everything from heavy, filling, Turnip 'N Tater 'N Moshroom pasties to light and delicate-and almost totaly sugar-pies and tarts. My pastry is light and flaky, my sausage and mushroom rolls are dripping with cheese, and my drinks(home brewed) range from light, fizzy and sweet, to foamy, dark, and heating.

Ok, I am now very hungry.....
I am also avallible to be a distuber, if I can set off dragons!

Hullo! You posted in the Temple you need members so, eh...Here I am! I dunno if I'm a hobbit but I'll ally with 'em. :)

And I'll be a soldier if you want. An archer, or First Shirriff, perhaps.

I was planning on being an innkeeper, but I like weapons, so yeah, can I be First Shirriff?

Welcome Lim!

Sorry but First Shirrif needs to be elected when more members are here. The First Shirriff is the Mayor, so if you want to be mayor just say so and Ill add you to the list of candidates.

Would you like to be a Shirriff, Bounder, or would you like to Join the Hobbitry-in-arms as a soldier. Maybe you could be a Warden?

Or you could be an inn-keeper.

Please post a BIO, with a charcter name and such. I would help determine if your an archer or a swordspwerson. It depends on your strengths.

Thankyou! Sorry for being a little disorganized at the moment. Just starting out with this!

Hullo everyone! I havent been around in a while. The new thread is great so far. But I don't know what position I want. I wouldnt be any good at being mayor or anything like that. Maybe I'll just be the mysterious lady who shows up every weekend, like a hobbit version of Cinderella or something. Thats always fun to be :)

A Bio eh?...[scratches chin thoughtfully]

Do I hafta be a hobbit? Or can I just be allied to them. I can't imagine being so short. :) But I do like them.

But if I must, I suppose I don't mind.

Okay for now if you'd like I'll be a Shirriff or an innkeeper [or both?] and wait for more members!

Perhaps it would be best for me to make stuff up when we're a little more up and running eh?

This place looks interesting! :) May I participate? I'm not normally an RP'r so I don't really know what it is that you plan on doing. But since I identify with hobbits rather strongly, I thought I ought to investigate this place. :)

What goes on after you all post your bios? Do I have to make one up? Or will my real bio do? :)

From one hobbit to another....

Postby RosieCotton » Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:30 am

At last an alliance of hobbits! I'd be happy and proud to join, HA!

As wife of Samwise Gamgee, I took on the role of teaching our children (and then the others they brought home with them until it was nearly all the children of Hobbiton) the tales my dear Sam told me of his and Mister Frodo's adventures. I read to the children from the Red Book of old Mister Bilbo and Mister Frodo, as well as what my Sam had entered into it. Though I hadn't thought of teaching any but my own wee ones, I became a teacher of our Hobbit history and of the great things we have contributed to the world of Middle Earth to many more, thus keeping our heritage alive in the hearts of our people.

Thank you for the kind words, Nimrodel, :) but I wouldn't presume to teach the great ones. Teaching hobbit children the history of fellow hobbits is the limit of my wisdom.

I worded it wrong. Besides I'm not great one.:P *points to title* I'm the official Disturber of the Peace.:P So you'll be teaching the young ones history then? Thats cool. I love history mind if I sit in on a few classes?:) Oh and you can call me Nim.:D

And we look forward to hearing about the history of your people and how they interact with us hobbits, as well. 8)

There are a good many hobbits who don't know their history, either. Hobbits only really care about the moment--what is important now, such as tending to their affairs and leaving alone the affairs of the big people.

I take hope in the fact that the young people seem to have taken an interest in how the wider world affects us since the scouring of the Shire upon Sam's return from Mordor. But, hobbits being what we are, I'm afraid the generation after will go back to hobbit indifference, which will prove harmful to us as a people in the long run, I am afraid!
