Ring*Con 2011, Bonn, Germany

Postby Canamarth » Thu Oct 13, 2011 2:58 am

I know it's a bit last minute - but there are still some day and weekend tickets available, I heard, for Europe's largest fantasy convention: Ring*Con, taking place this weekend, 14-16 October 2011.

I'll be going and will try to catch one of the few LoR actors/extras for an interview this time, see the odd lecture and lend a helping hand at the stand of the German Tolkien Society. Other than that - just meeting old friends and making new ones. :)

Please let us know how it was!

I saw a photo of some costumes of the Valar on display, and they looked awesome :)

The Valar costumes were indeed awesome! I sat opposite Nessa, Nienna, Ulmo, Melkor, Yavanna and Mandos most of the time as the costumes were set up in the room where the German Tolkien Society had their stand:

The Con was business as usual, I'd say. Interesting mix of vampires/werewolves and fantasy followers. Wonderful costumes all around. Here's a link to some more photos and further galleries at the bottom. Not sure if you can access them all if you're not a member of the site.

And here's an article form the press conference:

There will be at least one or two more articles on the Con on that website. I'll let you know.

Thanks! I like the 'Beware the Hobbit' approach to the press release; sounds like they were having fun. :)

It's so cool that you got to see the costumes up close. It looks like they did an awesome job. I realize that fan films are difficult on a lot of levels, but clearly someone put a lot of effort into the costumes, anyway!

So the grey one with the hood is Mandos? I thought so, but he was labeled 'Manwë' on facebook and that just seemed all wrong.

I know what you mean about those fan films. This project actually presented a first teaser at Ring*Con which I found quite nice (and you get to see the costume ins action a bit:

Many Tolkien fans were a bit disappointed that hardly any Lord of the Rings actors were invited to the last cons. Now that the Hobbit is in the making, I guess the focus of RingCon will return to its roots and lose maybe a few vampires - that's that the 'Beware' is about, really. :)

And a small update - here's the link to an interview I held at Ring*Con with Jonathan Harding, the Hobbit's accountant and an extra in the Lord of the Rings films.
