LOTR Movie Quotes the Second!

Postby Hiril Elfwraith » Fri May 14, 2010 2:12 pm

Come one, come all to the second incarnation of the thread entitled "LoTr MoViE qUoTeS."

You need to post a fragment of a quote from the movie. The posters after you will try and finish it by providing the rest of the quote, the speaker, the time, the place, and the movie. :) The person who gets it correct enjoys the privilege of posting the next quote. (Posting a short quote and asking for speaker, time, place works too, but the other kind is generally better.)

Quotes must be from the movies. (Hence the title.)

I'll start, shall I?

I'm not aware of Gollum ever saying anything like that...I don't have the EEs, but I've seen 'em once or twice and I'm pretty sure he never said anything like that.

I don't know, I haven't watched the films much (yet). Frodo tells Gandalf that they should hide the ring at Bag End and never speak of it, but I don't think he said hide the. It's probably not even about the ring...

Nope. Nothing (beyond being in LOTR, duh) to do with the Ring. :)

All my brain's offering is Jack Sparrow saying 'Hide the rum' and I can't even remember if I've watched him saying it.

LOL! "Hide the rum!" was the first thing I thought of too! Loooove that Jack Sparrow character . . . ;)

But for Tolkien and LOTR, hmmmm, let me see . . . could it be Aragorn giving instructions to the Fellowship when they stopped before the Falls of Rauros? Didn't Aragorn say something like "Hide the boats, we'll continue on foot. We will approach Mordor from the North." . . . or something to that effect?

Yes indeedy. "Hide the boats and continue on foot. We approach Mordor from the North." Then 'Master Dwarf' decides to start depressing Pippin by complaining about the Emyn Muil and the Dead Marshes.

Your go! I, for one, thought that the quote I picked was actually pretty easy...

LOL, well it made us all think of a totally different line, in a totally different movie, spoken by a totally different character. Easy maybe, but cleverly misleading. The best kind . . .

I don't have anything quite so clever but here goes anyway.

"There is no way ... "

The only one that my brain is offering up is Frodo telling Boromir "There is no other way!" but that would be too easy...

This is a good one, Scribbles; I didn't figure it out within three seconds of reading it...

(That's not an exaggeration, by the way. It usually only takes me about three seconds to locate the quotes. :P )

"There is no way out of that ravine. Theoden is walking into a trap. He thinks he is leading them to safety, what he will get is a massacre."

Gandalf to Aragorn after Theoden's decision to go to Helms Deep?

"I have left instruction. The people are to follow your rule in my stead. Long may you defend Edoras if the battle goes ill."

Théoden to Éowyn as they're getting ready to leave for the battle of the Pelennor Fields, RotK.

Amirite??

Erk, another brain bender . . . All that's coming to mind is Jesus (Go now, and sin no more), which I'm pretty sure isn't the quote you're looking for, LOLOL . . .

Hmmmm . . .

goes off to ponder further

Wait a sec... I just realized that there's two possible ones for my quote. I'll put up a comma to make it clearer.

I was thinking of Eowyn saying to Merry Go now, to the smithy by the mountain of the dead, but doesn't she just say Go? I'm rubbish at flim quotes anyway.

Is it Galadriel to the Fellowship when they get to Lothlorien?

"Go now and rest. For you are weary with grief and toil. Here, you will sleep in peace tonight."

Or something like that . . . ?

That's why I added the comma. It's not that one.

ETA: "Go now and rest, for you are weary with sorrow and much toil. Tonight, you will sleep with us..." I think. Though I may have misheard that last little part, I always got distracted by her wee bit of telepathy to Frodo.

Hmm. Did Gollum say "Go now, and never come back!" when talking to himself in TTT?

Hmmmmm . . . .

The only other one I can think of is Denethor, when he tosses Pippin out of the Tomb of the Stewards in Minas Tirith . . . doesn't he say something like -

"Go now, and die in whatever manner you deem fitting."

??

As an aside, I never liked Denethor, not in the books nor in the movies. Though i thought the actor they cast was brilliant in the scurvy dog's role, LOL . . .
