Come on over to Tom's House for the lighter side of Tolkien Fandom. Remember Tom's House is both powerful and innocent, so keep it clean and nice.

Umm well Maedhros was the eldest of the Seven Sons of Fëanor, and one of the most important of the Noldor during the war of the jewels. <BR><BR>After Gothmog lord of the balrogs slew his father Feanor, Morgoth hung Maedhros by his wrist on the wals of Thrangorodrim. Fingon son of Fingolfin rescued Maedhros, assisted by Thorondor, but could only do so by cutting off his right hand. The friendship that existed between Maedhros and Fingon helped unite the houses of the Noldor, and forthwith the “Union of Maedhros” was formed to keep the watch on Angband vigilant.<BR><BR>After the eventual defeat of Morgoth, Maedhros and his brother Maglor, bound to the oath of Feanor, slew some of their fellow elves and stole the two remaining Silmarils. Tortured by them, Maedhros cast himself into a fiery chasm, while Maglor threw his into the sea. <BR><BR>Ceredigion is a region of Wales where I lived and studied for five years. It is very beautiful, with iron age settlements, castles, and a lovely coastline sweeping up to the mountains, and has a very middle earth feel to it. So there you go. :-)<BR>

Vincent means conquerer, and i think that sums my desire to control torc, but do not fear i will be a benevolent ruler of torc, though every one with variations on the names legolas, and arwen will have the choice of exile or death, there are just to many of those names floating around, it confuses me.

My name is taken from the title of a song by the Norwegian black metal band 'Satyricon'. They are my favourite band in the whole world. <BR><BR>"Filthgrinder - practise aggression<BR>Filthgrinder - protect the wealth of the Elite<BR>Filthgrinder - tremble upon the ugly<BR><BR>Trueborn creature, twist that Firm grasp of yours<BR>like in days of old"<BR><BR><a target=new href="http://www.satyricon.no">Satyricon</a><BR><BR><BR>

my name is Rebeca. I am latin. In spanish the letters "b" and "v" have different sounds, so When people pronounce "rebeca" it is supposed to sound some way but they pronounce it as it was written "reveca", anyway, i like the letter "k" so i switched it to "reveka", then i tok all the vowels... "rvk" was formed. TAH-DAH!!!<BR><BR>Not a very interesting story.... is it?

I went to the quenya/sindarin translator to translate the roots of my last name (Briggs, root = bridges (English)) and mother's maiden name (Caldwell = cold well (Scottish)) into elvish. Maerantha is a compound of "cold" and "bridges" in Sindarin. My adult rereads of the books and the first two movies have made me even more hardcore than after my first read at age 13! No plans to study elvish, though.

Mine is based on my actual name, Laura, which is a derivation of Laurel, and is mostly a misspelling of something Treebeard hummed to himself about Lothlorien. He said,"Laurelindorenan," among other things.

Oy, I'm too sleepy to think. Laurelindorenan is what Lothlorien was named, but had been shortened. Not very Ent-ish of them, eh. Anyway, sorry for the double post.

*Bumping*

Hmm, Lysanor was the name of a very minor character in Cecilia Dart-Thorntons, Crowthistle Chronicles. I liked the name, so I stole it :)
Apparently it's from Arthurian legend and means 'mother of Boore'. If it was spelled 'bore' then it would be very fitting...

What can I say?

"Hiril" is "lady" in Sindarin, and I love Elves (who doesn't?) but I also think that the Nazgul (or wraiths in general) are pretty darn cool. Hence...

I agree. :) And y'know, I was wondering about that, but didn't ask since we had(have) a member whose user name is Ellehcim, which is obviously Michelle backwards but they claimed it wasn't so . . . :? Strange.

My explanation is simple. All the elven name generators returned horrible, ugly, unpronounceable piles of doo-doo for any and all of my real life names. I'm partial to silver and I would honestly have been a Scribe had I been born a few hundred years earlier sooooo . . . <bada-boom>

Boring, but there ya have it. ;)
