Come on over to Tom's House for the lighter side of Tolkien Fandom. Remember Tom's House is both powerful and innocent, so keep it clean and nice.

One of my nicknames is "Adorable Zombie" because I was tired one day and happened to mention I was acting like a zombie...but my best friend said I would still be adorable even if I was!! So that explains zombie. Sparkly...Well, I like clothes that sparkle!! And I wear sparkly nail polish a lot...And Elf, well *everybody* wants to be an Elf!!

Names are interesting. Fans who like Tolkien probably like language and names as well. Anyway, I have always felt drawn to the fantasy name "Blade-Song" ever since reading the Elfquest graphic novels, in which most of the main characters are named after their weapons. <BR><BR>LotR the Movie cam along and re-popularized elves and Tolkien's languages. When I tried to translate "Blade-Song" into Sindarin, the closest translation was "Chathol-linn" or Blade-singer. This is close enough, and also, "Chathol-linn" sound very like my real name, coincidentally. How 'bout the rest of you guys? Regards - Chathol-linn

That's me - I'm a cat person from the beginning. Have you ever read the Elfquest cartoon novels - really good art? the Elves there are 'wolf riders." I always thought there should be Elves who are bound to cats the way Wolfriders are bound to wolves. See www.elfquest.com. Not a LotR universe, but a very good fantasy place.

"Entwife" was taken. And anyway I'm unmarried at 57, and expect to stay that way. And as my boss said, all the Entwives are effectively spinsters now, since they lost touch with the Ents.<BR> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

Postby Hero's Song » Thu Apr 11, 2002 9:28 pm

My first experience with a message board was one for fans of Shakespeare. Everyone had names of characters for their user name so I chose "Hero" from Much Ado About Nothing. When I decided to join TORC two years ago, I tried to use "Hero" again, but it was taken, so I chose Hero's Song because I love to sing. That's it in a nutshell <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

<BR>Well, I first tried for just "Nimrodel" but it was already taken, so I decided on "NimrodelSong". In the first book, before the Fellowship runs into Haldir in Lochlorien, Legolas leads the others by a stream and tells them it is called Nimrodel. It was named after an elfmaiden who lost her true love, and disappeared. Legolas then sang a song (or recited a poem) about her. I like Legolas and it all sounded so romantic, so...<BR><BR><BR>Devoted LOTR fan<BR>Disciple of Jesus Christ

My user name stems first from the way I think all you girls are so crazy over Legolas, so I wanted to make fun of him. And I have a puppy who only has three legs, which made me think of Legs All Lost <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

LadyKat: actually, she does. I'm a fan of him myself, but personally I prefer the elves <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>. I really didn't like him in the Fellowship, but def. grew on my during the TT and RotK. I can see why people don't really like him, but I think he's hilarious. I'm really looking forward to his appearance in the next two movies. ~LadyMelia

Hm, my name is actually a character I created who's real name is supposed to be Ciaran Gabriel Galloway, though he usually just goes by Gabriel, and he has a bunch of other nicknames <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> One day maybe I'll post a drawing a character profile. I myself am female, though. Why did I choose a male character name? Heck, I don't know <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I knew it wouldn't be taken.

Anethiel is the name of an RPG character I created for my friend's and my sessions together. I really would've like to have an evish name but me favorite names were taken and because i'm not too good at alternating one already taken to a point where it sounds like something I just used her name 'cause I thought it was pretty cool. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

When I started goig into chat rooms I had the name Sita, it reminded me of something dark. When I started going into message boards I found that people had the same name, so I had to change it. Since me not being entirely a good girl started to create the alter ego BlackMistAngel who was a dark black angel. When I came to TORC I wanted to use the name Shadowfax, but figuring someone already used it I decided to combine the name with my alter ego BMA creating ShadowMist who isn't as dark as BMA but can be. ^_^

I am just *<i>bumping</i>* this thread because I would like to explain my username, and did not wish to start another topic on it!<BR><BR>My username <i>Aratariel</i> is an Elvish way to translate my given name, Patricia, which means "noble woman" in English. However, the most common way to translate that into Elvish would be <i>Arwen</i>, which I fear would not be terribly original. So, Aratariel it is. And if you are to shorten my name, please call me Tariel or the like, because I tend not to respond to Ara... I always think it refers to Arathorn from RB.org. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I've always loved Tolkien's essay Tree and Leaf and especially the accompnying story "Leaf by Niggle" as his example of what a fairy story should be like.<BR><BR>I can identify with Niggle's fascination with the leaf and his attention to detail of something which everyone else might see as trivial. In a way the leaf for me is my love of Tolkien. The "twigginess" stems from (sic) the connections that my leaf has to the great forest outside.
