Yay!!!!! wussy wussy Frodo is finally being yelled at! oh , and Ringo, you might want to change the title of your thread because the crazy swooners yell at you and then the mods lock it! I had one like this once....under a different name! I had to change my name a lot though because the crazy swooners were stalking me and yelling at me in threads that didn't have anything to do with Frodo! Just a warning for your self-preservation!

If Frodo is a wimp that so is the rest of the Fellowship! He carried the ring for such a long time and even though it had a dramatic affect on him, he was true to the quest until the last moments of it all. A wimp would not set foot in Mordor nor leave the comfort of his home, for that matter. No one is perfect and brave all the time. Thus making Frodo fairly average and the fact his deeds make him above average, not a wimp. Being a sort of pesimist also does not make you a wimp (in refrence to the numerous occasions of the phrase "all hope is lost"<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> He could have given up at anytime but he didn't. Frodo is not a wimp!

Well said Seregelena! I know I couldn't have carried the ring that far or suffered through the many things Frodo did. Infact, I don't think I know anybody capable of doing what he did. Going into the heart of Mordor...no wimp could do that! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I think part of the appeal of the Lord of the Rings is the fact that it's hero is not one's typical hero. He is small; he doesn't come from a particularly great background, and yet he rises to the challenge. The fact that he does so without perfection only makes him more realistic, imo. Not everyone in the world can be an Aragorn, and that is why Frodo is such an attractive character: he succeeds despite the odds and despite being a "normal" being such as any of us here.<BR><BR>I think that that's something that should inspire you, not make you think of him as a wimp.

I agree with MeganBaggins. In the movies it actually seems like every situation they are in he is waiting for someone to save him. Even Arwen(<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>) seems to be more willing to draw a sword and use it than he does. <BR><BR>But on the other hand Elijah does look pretty d*mn good....

<i>Oh boy, you people are going to be tracked down and murdered by the girls of America for saying Frodo is a wimp</i> and the girls of australia<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>...lol<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> okay. if its not already obvious-i love frodo. i love lij. and he isnt a wimp<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> hes a hobbit. hobbits rarely if ever handle swords or fight the dead, or track into the shadowlands where masses of orcs and and the eye are. <i>men</i> wouldnt even do that. he was willing to risk his life in order to save the rest of the world. wimp? i dont believe that word is associated with him at all. hes scared. and he has good reason to be, being pursued by cloaked creatured wielding deadly swords, and the desire of the ring. whats he supposed to do when hes attacked? hes a hobbit, has no experience in sword wielding or fighting, and is being attacked by seriously dangerous creatures that no one in their right mind would attempt to defeat. he waits because he knows that his attepts would be useless and all would come to darkness. he depends on those stronger than he is. but frodo has his own strengths, and just because fighting isnt one of them doesnt mean he deserves to be called a wimp.

Frodo in the Fellowship movie sucked. Seems like he was always being stabbed or swinging around by the foot in the grip of some creature. I got enough closeups of his desperate lil' blue eyes to last me a lifetime <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> In TT he got a bit better.<BR><BR>Even in the books he wasn't that great. At the end in Mordor he really made life difficult for Sam. And then at the end he couldn't even do it! <BR><BR>I realize that in the modern age, when we are being fed on Hollywood heroes, Frodo seems to be a wimp. But I think he is a lot truer to life that those Hollywood images. Tolkien's wrote a character out of sync with our modern world view, that's all.<BR>

Hmmm...In FOTR I thought he was a little wimpy. I would always complain to my friends about he was always screamin about something. Now I like him much better. He is prolly even my favorite character now. I don't know exactly why. I still don't like him in FOTR so much, but in TTT...I just like him a lot better. Now though, i wouldn't say he is a wimp. Think of what the ring is doing to him. We in this world would prolly not get even as far as he did.<BR>~Lara~

Exactly, he's not so likable in the movies. He's a proper wuss. Maybe it's just Elijah who gives Frodo a wussy feel to the character? Also if I had a ring that could make me invisible then I for one would be causing all kinds of havoc. Pushing orcs off cliffs and stuff.

I don't have bad things to say about Frod but what I do have are a specific set of skills that make a nightmare to people like you. If you take it back I won't pursue you and I won't follow you. But if you don't I will find you and I will kill you. Just kidding. I do think the movie version of Frodo whined too much but the book I think actually did convey the amount of mental strength and power it took to resist the ring. Because almost anyone including me would've fallen to the ring.
