:) Thanks, I know. I'm searching for it right now. (The one GDM provided was the wrong link, so I can't just copy it from her post in the other thread.)

Let me know if you spot anything else. And thank you VERY much for the way you put the general index url's in your post. It made putting them here much easier! :)

Yay! :)

I was hoping to see more of the political threads people enjoyed most. You'll note that there is a preponderance of religious threads (the Social Issues category is almost entirely religious in one way or another), but that's probably be because me and Lalaith both frequent those. But there is more to Manwe then religious bickering so I was hoping to get some greater exposure to that through this.

Perhaps the top 10 should also be included in the index, it would make finding all major threads on relevant subjects easier.

In an effort to keep this thread lean and clean (and useful imo), it might be a good idea to keep the discussion and the thread suggestions to the other thread instead of this one. Just my opinion though.. :)

Good suggestion and one made by several people now. :)

So we should let this be the last post in here, and if anyone has anything else to add/say/complain about/discuss, etc. please post it in the previous thread. The link is in the first post of this thread, and I will also make that clearer in the first post. Just in case, though, here is the link again:

I would like to see some of these excellent threads nominated in the WC Awards but unless more of you philosophers get out and nominate them you might have the Fires of Isenguard going to something like "why I hate David Eddings" or some such outrageous nonsense.

Only YOU can prevent some other thread spooling off with "Fires" Participate :!: Communicate :!: Nominate :!:

Well, I've fixed the links so they should work now. I only spot-checked them, so if anyone finds one that's not working, please let me know.

I will not be adding any threads to these lists at this time. I am no longer here enough to do so or to know which threads deserve inclusion and which don't. If someone else who is now a Manwe regular would like to take up the torch, then feel free to start a new thread, initiate the voting process, appeal for a sticky thread, and the rest of it. And good luck.

Lalaith seems pretty clear that she won't be back to update this thread - can we get someone to volunteer to update it from time to time or shall I just unsticky it?

I think this is a very nice thread (I've not used it before, but I like the idea of indexing in a forum which has such a lot of high quality discussion), it would be a pity to let it drop.
I wouldn't mind upkeeping this, but I'm well aware I'm nowhere near as much a Manwe regular as, for example, er - you, Alys! ;) :)

Thank you Truehobbit - I agree that it's a great thread and that it would be a shame to see it go.:)

I'm not sure how best to go about it - I don't mind doing the actual updating with my 'modliness' but I'd need to be told what to update!

Or we could start a new thread?

Alys, I think the idea for having a Manwe regular upkeep this thread is that they can decide for themselves, from their knowledge of the forum, which threads are worth listing here! :P ;) That's why I thought you'd do better than me there! :D

Of course, everybody can make suggestions for threads they think belong here, in the suggestion thread linked to in the first post. :)

As to a new thread or no - hmmh, no preferences here, looks like less work to just use your modliness to update it, but if you'd prefer the looks of it, then you might just as well start a new one. (Although it might look a bit official if the thread is in your name? Not sure, would probably depend on how much people see you as a regular Manwe poster rather than the Manwe mod, I think - something I couldn't judge. )

Oops we seem to have ourselves a misunderstanding here! I really don't have enough of an interest in the project to undertake it myself - what I had in mind was that you, or whoever takes it over, would email me with any updates that you wanted to make and I could edit them in.

I probably shouldn't have said 'we' could open a new thread so I can see why you thought that I meant...well...'we'. :D

I do think that it's a worthy project and may well be deserving of regular updating but I'm not sure how many manweites would agree or how many would be interested?

Oh, I see - sorry, Alys!

I thought when you said: "I'm not sure how best to go about it", you meant you'd agreed that you'd do the indexing.
You must pretty much read all the threads here, while I open probably less than a third, I think (and 'open' doesn't say much about actually 'reading' ;) ).

So, "we" could open a new thread meant you and me? :D

what I had in mind was that you, or whoever takes it over, would email me with any updates that you wanted to make and I could edit them in.

Hmmh - that's a possibility, too, although, as I said, I don't think I read enough of the threads to be really up to date on what the best threads here are - actually, I had thought along the same lines you did - keeping up the list with whatever threads I find, but mostly getting input from others, and mainly just doing the maintenance. :D

Hard to say whether people would be interested - how about bumping the suggestion thread and see what happens? :)

Well, quite frankly, I would be really upset to see this thread unstickied. A lot of work went into it, not just by me but by many Manweites. (It was like pulling teeth at times to get people to participate. ;)) It is also a nice record of some really terrific threads that might get lost otherwise.

My hope is that you would keep this thread stickied. I can change the title to reflect that it pertains to threads prior to the Spring of 2005.

If someone would like to create a new thread (which should also be stickied), then that would be great. They can title it to reflect that it includes threads from Spring of '05 till now (or whenever).

Or you can modify it as needed, if you think that's the easier, more efficient route.

My personal thoughts are that it would be more efficient and clearer to simply create a new thread. It might be difficult to get the newer threads worked into the way I have the threads arranged, especially in the "voting" portion. (Does that make sense?)

I'm just not here enough anymore to keep track of things. The torch should be passed on, for sure, just not at the expense of the past.

I do think that it's a worthy project and may well be deserving of regular updating but I'm not sure how many manweites would agree or how many would be interested?

This is the part that I was thinking of when I said, "Good luck." It was sometimes not all that easy to get participation with this project.

w00t for LordM! :D

Lalaith, although the bit with the voting was nice, I think the real merit of such a thread lies in the indexing - all good discussions within easy reach, independently of how popular they are.

I took the first post with the "top ten" to be a sort of introduction to the "real" list - like saying, if you can't decide which one to read, pick one of these. :)

The continuation of this project would be fine with just being an index, I think. :)
