GREAT acting!!!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I had to rewind it at least twice.

woo - I can't believe I forgot all about the gladiator stuff!

Lembas - thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Eol - your pic, by being hosted at angelfire isn't showing up - just thought I'd tell you that you can go to www.brinkster.com and they give you free space and you can link directly to pictures from there. Geocities and angelfire have both stopped (I think) letting you directly link to pictures there, so I went to brinkster (where I-Am-Tigger and Star-of-hope have their pics stored at) and that's where I've got the pic I'm using stored at. It's free, I think it's about as much space as Geocities or Angelfire - and they don't put any advertisements/popups on your webpages. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Oh - and I've got another moment.
in Jaws when the three guys are sitting in the boat, comparing scars and stories and Quint tells his story about the U.S.S. Indianapolis.
Gladiator - The final scenes, starting from Emperor stabbing Maximus's back. I just love the music and the atmosphere in the ending sequences...

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest - the scene where McMurphy is walked to his bed, after electrical shocks. He had gone completely 'vegie'. I thought it was very sad scene indeed.

Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back - the scene where Darth Vader says to Luke: "I'm your father!" and Luke replies in great agony: "NOOOO!". It's just a powerful, and a classic, scene.

Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back - the scene where Luke just met Yoda and went to his house. Yoda says to Luke: "War does not make one a hero" ( or something along those words ).

More to come...

"War does not make one a hero." I don't remember that? Oh well, good excuse to rewatch the movie. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

By the by, Klonkku - it wasn't shock treatment that turned Mac into a veggie at the end of the movie - it was a lobotomy. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>
We had to watch that movie for my film class and most of the class didn't know if he had had a lobotomy or shock treatment and the teacher verified the lobotomy. She said that it was made even more apparant in the book & play that that was what had happened.

Kinda makes it even sadder huh?

When the ramps are lowered on the landing ships at Omaha Beach and the German machinegunners mow down the assaulting americans... and the whole following 30 minutes of Saving Pte Ryan. This is one of the most terrifying movie experience I've ever had. So extremely powerful and so extremely awful. The sound of the bullets and shrapnel hitting living flesh, hitting sand, hitting the metal tank obstacles. Wounded and dying soldiers crying for help. Desperate soldiers trying to get cover behind low sand dunes. Soldiers drowning because they disembarked too far from the shore with too much equipment. I was about to leave the theater and I couldn't stop trembling after Tom Hanks and Tom Seizemore had taken the last trench at Omaha.

It's probably wrong to describe this movie moment as my favourite, but rather the most powerful and emotional. There where NOTHING glamorous in that description of D-Day. War is hell.

Other favourite moments: When Morgan Freeman meets tim Robbins at the beach in the last scene of the Shawshank Redemption.

Or when Special Agent Cujan realizes Verbal Kint has made up the whole story of what happened to Dean Keaton, McManus, Fenster and Hockney and who Kezyer Zöse really was. Excellent!

Or when Neo and Trinity fights their way to the elevators to free Morpheus.

Or when the replicant Roy Batty tells Deckard that memories will be lost in time like tears in rain and that it's time to die...

There are so many favourite moments...

Cheers

Mjolnir

Aliens-when all hell has broken loose and the marines are trying to get topside out of the aliens nest, and Ripley is burning rubber in the APC to rescue them.

The Guns Of Navarone-The scene after the traitor had been killed and Gregory Peck starts going off on David Niven because of his callous attitude towards eliminating the woman.
"Well son, you're bystanding days are over. You're in it now, up to your neck! They say you're an expert with explosives, start proving it! You got me in the mood to use this thing, and by god if you don't I'm going to use it on you. I mean it."

U571-"Splashes!"

X-Men-"Hey bub...I'm not through with you yet."
The Crow: Top Dollar's death by falling to his impalement (Gothic cool)

Dr. Phibes Rises Again: Phibes eats fruits while the girl plays the violin and a man dies screaming in the other room of the tent (just cool in an unusual way)

La Decima Vittima: When the hero's ex-wife and ex-mistress band up to kill him (light-hearted fun)

Some of my favorite scenes:

Hunt for Red October-- when the submarine comes jetting out of the water. The look on the Russian soldier's face was priceless. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon-- the battle in the dojo between the lady and the girl. Wow.

Princess Mononoke-- Any scene with the Forest Spirit in it. Wow.

Ben Hur-- The chariot race. George Lucas openly admits that he modelled the Phantom Menace podrace scene after Ben Hur, and I don't think he came close to the original. Wow.

Smaug, I have to agree with you on the Jaws scene... the story about the USS Indianapolis gave me shivers. Another of my Jaws favorites, is when the main guy (can't remember his name) is throwing chum in the water and bad-mouthing Quint, and he turns to see the shark rise to the surface. Great scene.

(And I think Yoda said, "Wars not make one great... Hmmm...")

A lot of good scenes listed. One that always comes to mind
is from "Silence Of the Lambs".

When Hanibal hands Clarice her file folder through the bars of
his cage. For some reason, I think when their fingers touch
is a very moving romantic scene.

the end of the usual suspects - when the whole story comes together and the light just turns on inside your head <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

scarface - "say hello to my little friend....BOOOOOOOOMMM" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> hehe

the fight scene amongst the trees - crouching tiger, hidden dragon

"the path of the righteous man..." speech in pulp fiction

the end of La Heine, one of the most poingant cinematic moments ever

"your battle with the guards was magnificent - your skill is extra-ordinary" enter the dragon
A couple more,

To Kill A Mockingbird - "Hey, Boo." <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The Untouchables - when the little guy goes haywire after seeing Andy Garcia's character get shot.

Mystery Men - Mr. Furious really gets furious in the battle with Casanova Frankenstien.

Usual Suspects - (ok, it's basically the same thing as mentioned before but...) Verbal loses his limp. He's walking, you see the limp go away, his hand starts to work right. Very cool. Gimp to supercriminal in seconds.

oooh oooh, Mystery Men is full of 'em! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The Shoveler's speech, as to whether or not do they go after Casanova.

Shoveler: (indicates the bowl of egg salad he's been mixing) This is egg salad. It's loaded with cholesterol. The wife won't even let me touch it. Hardly seems to matter now, 'cause chances are we're already dead. Amazing is gone. There's no use waiting for the cavalry, because as of this moment, the cavalry is us.

Invisible Boy: Well yeah but, I don't wanna get frakulated.

Bowler: Psychofrakulated.

Invisible Boy: We still get frakulated.

Shoveler: This is our fight, whether we like it or not. Just we few. We're not your classic superheroes. We're not the favorites. We're the other guys. We're the guys nobody ever bets on. But I'll tell you what I think. (to Bowler) I think you and that ball of yours have an appointment that you gotta keep. (to Invisible Boy) Invisible Boy, I think it's time you were seen. (to Sphinx) Sphinx, you have trained us well. (to Heller) And Dr. Heller, you might just have given us the edge we need. (to Spleen) And Spleen. I don't wanna stand behind you. But I'll fight beside you with pride. (to Rajah) Jeff. You've gota rare and beautiful gift. The city needs you tonight. (to Furious) And Roy, in all the years I've known you, I've never seen you walk away from a fight. Why you lifted a city bus once, man. I think you've got what it takes to handle Casanova. (to everyone) We're all in over our heads and we know it. But if we take on this fight, those of us who survive it will forever after show our scars with pride and say, "That's right. I was there. I fought the good fight." So what do you say? Do we all gather together, and go kick some Casanova butt? Or do I eat this sandwich?

Wow,all these great choices are triggering such memories! By the way,I think the line in "The Empire Strikes Back" is "I'm looking for a great warrior" to which Yoda replies,"Oh,wars not make one great". At least I THINK that's it.

Jaws-As many have already stated, the scene with Quint describing the Indianapolis disaster, followed by the sound of the whale song,is one of the spookiest, greatest scenes ever!

To Kill a Mockingbird-"Miss Jean Louise. Miss Jean Louise! Stand up! Your father's passing."

Silence of the Lambs-When Clarice passes in front of Hannibal's cell for the first time,he is already standing there, staring forward,as if he knew exactly when she would be there. Spooky!

SPOILER!!!
Das Boot-The final scene. The sub crew come through hell and high water, barely returning home alive when they are bombed by aircraft while in dock and sunk. Devastating.

The Ninth Configuration-Stacy Keach taking several minutes of humiliation at the hands of a biker gang, before rising up and killing each and every one of them bare-handed.

The Godfather-Michael Corleone shooting the two men in the restaurant.

The Godfather Two-Michael planting the kiss of death on his brother,Fredo.

The Godfather Part III-Michael breaking down, confessing his brother's murder to the soon-to-be Pope. Also,Michael at the film's conclusion when he loses a family member to violence and unloads the most emotion in any of the three films into a half-silent scream and collapse. Very powerful stuff.

The Right Stuff-John Glenn's capsule surrounded by strange firefly like objects while he is in orbit.

True Grit-Rooster's final charge against the bad guys.

Shenendoah-As what's left of Jimmy Stewart's family is gathered in church, the doors swing open and his injured son,on crutches, hobbles into his embrace.

Horror of Dracula-Dr. Van Helsing dives across a table and rips the curtains open to reveal the sun. He then drives the dying Dracula backwards into the sunlight with two candle holders crossed like a crucifix.

The Phantom Menace-Darth Maul somersaults off his speeder bike to do battle with Qui Gon. Also, the entire final light sabre battle.

I must agree, Isaiah, that The Last of the Mohicans has one of the most satisfying endings ever put on film. Chinguchcook (sp?) kicking Magua's butt is most pleasing. And with the music, et al, it is better than the book.

The scene between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper in True Romance.

The end of True Romance.

The scene with Christopher Walken and the watch in Pulp Fiction.

The end of Apocolypse Now.

Any part of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Any part of Glengarry, Glen Ross

In the Empire Strikes Back when they're in the cave/worm and Leia rushes in and says, "There's something out there!" and Han and Chewie both look at her with funny goggles on and go "Where?"

In the Empire Strikes Back when Luke is recovering and Leia goes over to kiss him to make Han jealous - immediately after, Threepio waddles over. It's the waddle. It cracks me up.

The Enterprise crash in Star Trek: Generations.

The misty arrival of Father Merrick at Reagan's house in The Exorcist.

Paddy Chayevski (sp?) in Network having a nervous breakdown on live, primetime news. If you've never seen it, picture Tom Brokaw or Peter Jennings having a breakdown on air.
