Considering the age of this thread, there must be a newer one somewhere, but for what it's worth, this is my list, at least as much of it as I can dredge up on the spur of the moment:

Stalag 17
The Quiet Man
American Graffiti
The LOTR movies (as movies-- don't get me started on how they are as adaptations!)
the original Star Wars trilogy
the Alistair Sim Christmas Carol
the Jim Carrey Christmas Carol
The World of Henry Orient

I know there are more but at this point I'm having a hard time sifting through all the movies I love to try to distinguish more favorites.

I love adventure movies, like Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, Scorpion King, The Mummy and most of all - The Librarian series. I like elements of comedy and adventure mixed up and I like the main character, Flynn Carsen.

I am also fond of Star Wars and the Stargate movie.

WOW this could be a list that is pretty long but I'll try and keep it under 50 :D

Favorite all time movies:

Fantasy genre:
LOTR in the order they were released
Star Wars IV, V, and VI ( I think the prequels are alright but not great)
Fifth Element
Blade Runner (even though its a horrible adaptation from the book, great movie)
Star Trek the new ones are my favorites but just pic one I like them all (well except the one with the whales  )
12 monkeys

Blazing saddles (hands down the greatest comedy of EVER)
Animal House
Monty Python (all of them are great)
Strange brew
This is Spinal Tap (best mockumentary )
Big trouble in little china

Halloween (the original)
Carrie ( again the original)
Nightmare on Elm Street
the Exorcist
Salem's Lot
The howling
30 days of night

Action adventure:
Indiana Jones (the first one)
Conan ( I loved the reboot too bad it didn't do better)
The Bourne films (all but the last one without Matt Damon I haven't seen it yet)
Red (with Bruce Willis)
The Die Hard series ( I love stuff blowing up)
Riddick(seen it last weekend AWSOME movie) and Pitch Black ( I know they count as fantasy sci fi but they were so action packed)
Transformers (yeah I'm a sucker but I grew up on gen 1 so they are like a train wreck I don't wanna look but can't help myself LOL)

Then there are so many other films like:
Big Fish
the Shawshank Redemption
Gran Torino
Forest Gump (another horrible adaptation of a book)
Mary Poppins
Saturday Night Fever

The list goes on and on and on. The only movies I would rather die than watch would be Titanic, defending your life, and death becomes her. those 3 movies I just hate em and they happen to be the 3 favorite movies of my wife

I love seeing these old threads pop up...

let's see.

Off the top of my head

Moby Dick (the Gregory Peck version, there have been others lately that don't hold a candle)

Dr Strangelove (brilliant performances from Peter Sellers an the scene with Slim Pickens riding the (you know what) is a classic) )

Young Frankenstein

Life of Brian (I think it's the best Python movie)

Big Fish (just because it's so weird)

could have been plenty of others -
those are just the ones that popped into my head first.

I was flipping through an autobiography of Rex Harrison and I recalled what a perfect romantic movie "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" was.

Well, Spirited Away is Asian. As for European, a couple years ago I saw Asterix and Cleopatra (live action) with subtitles and loved it to pieces.

Revised movie list. (they change frequently!)

Lotr - all of them
Harry Potter - 2,3 and 7.2
Ben hur
Great Escape
the lion king
2001: A space odyssey
the latest Batman series ( I was hating the last two initially as the
plot seemed quite dense. But after 2-3 rewatches they are now my
favorite superhero films. :D
X-men 1,2,3 and wolverine 2009
Mr.Bean's holiday
Johnny english 2
Spiderman 2
Home Alone
Kung fu Panda 1,2
The latest Tintin
a brilliant Telefilm/Docu - "Escape from Sobibor"
Ice-Age 2
Silence of the Lambs
sound of music
The hobbit Auj
Jurassic Park, Jaws
planet of the apes (original and the 2011 reboot)
Gods must be crazy
Enter the Dragon
and The Great Dictator

As for Asian films. I am from India and have seen my fair share. While
they are not of my taste but every once in a while there come a few
gems. ;) 2009 movie 3 idiots is one such exanple. It's more of a comedy but has many deeper meanings to it.

Has anyone heard of or seen The Apu trilogy by Satyajit Ray? It was internationally quite famous during the 50s. Sincerely, if anyone who wishes to know the village life in post-independence era of India, watch it. Obviously though, they are tragedies.
It's my favorite regional film. So for someone who has a taste for different cultures, Heavily recommended!
