Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.

'Death! Ride, ride to ruin and the world's ending!'

Nothing more chilling then Eomer's charge. And nothing more... uplifting then Aragorn's arrival on the Pelennor fields.

Also, this always makes me laugh: 'Master Meriadoc,' said Aragorn, 'if you think that I have passed through the mountains and the realm of Gondor with fire and sword to bring herbs to a careless soldier who throws away his gear, you are mistaken.'

Gandalf: "Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity."

Gets me every time, even when reading the slightly different version in the book

The funniest one:
Pippin: " Anyway, you need people of intelligence for this sort of mission ... quest ... thing.
Elrond: " You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring !"
Pippin: " Great! Where are we going?"

The Darkest one:
Saruman: Who can stand against the might of Sauron and Saruman and the union of the two towers!
We will drive the machine of war with the sword and then spear and the iron fists of the orc! It will
begin in Rohan. Too long have these peasants stood against you!"

The most emotional one:
Gandalf: End? The journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one which we all must take.
The grey rain curtains of the world rolls back, and then you see it."
Pippin: See what Gandalf?
Gandalf ( with the most perfect expression in the world: White shores. And beyond, a far green country
under a swift sunrise."

I don't know if it's an actual quote, but the nazgul scream is pretty awesome.

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

That was always one of my favorites from both the book and movie. :D

I believe Sam says this in the book, but in the extended version of FOTR Merry says it.....as they're following Strider through the marshes, slapping at midges.

"What do they eat when they can't get Hobbit?"

There are so many fantastic quotes in LOTR, it's really difficult to name my favorites. Others here have alred named some, but I'd like to add a few. ;)

First, I really love the dialogue between Aragorn and Theoden in the battle of Helm's Deep, when Aragorn tells Theoden to ride out. I like Aragorn and Theoden a lot and this is such a hopeful scene. Of course, this isn't a single quote, but I think it fits in this thread.

Theoden: What can men do against such reckless hate?
Aragorn: Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them!
Theoden: For death and glory!
Aragorn: For Rohan! For your people!
Gimli: The sun is rising.

Another fantastic quote is from Aragorn's speech before the battle in front of the black gate. I'm wondering a bit, that someone hasn't posted this already (Sorry, if I haven't seen it. ;)).

A day may come when the courage of men fails… but it is not this day.

Oh, and also:

Oh, it’s quite simple. If you are a friend, you speak the password, and the doors will open.

Oh, I could add dozens of other quotes here, there are so many! But first, this is enough. ;)

I have so many favorites! :D

"I give hope to all Men." "I keep none for myself."

"Send these foul beasts to the Abyss!"

"I am no man."

"I am glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee. Here at the end of all things."

"My friends... you bow to no one."

and many others! <3 :D

For sheer delivery, my favourites without doubt;

King Théoden -
"What can men do against such reckless hate?"

Gandalf: Théoden King stands alone.
Éomer: Not Alone...ROOHIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUMMMM!
Théoden: Éomer!
Éomer: TO THE KING!

Éomer -
"Hasufel! Arod! May these horses bear you to better fortune than their former masters."

and for comedic purposes...

Éomer: You should not encourage him
Éowyn: you should not doubt him
Éomer: I do not doubt his heart, only the reach of his arm.
