Welcome MrsSmeagol! :)

I'm glad that you've discovered TORC (The One Ring dot Com as it was previously called). Its an amazing place to be, communicate with others and learn all about the works of Tolkien.

We would be glad indeed if you would join our discussion of The Hobbit and analyse the finer points.

I suggest that you read the thread at the top that says "READ THIS FIRST" so you can be aquainted with exactly what we do here.

I look forward to your posts and opinions. :)

Welcome again.

Happy 2005 everyone, and... back to business, I guess :P Arvegil is to do the summaries and the questions - is he still willing to do those? I think I will be present this month, sorry for the absence in December.

Good to hear from you, Mahima. :) I thought that the disaster around there might have affected your Internet connections.

Welcome, Nicasam! :)

Hope Arvegil hasn't forgotten about his turn to write the summary - he hasn't been around for a while.

Happy New Year, everyone!

If he's not around by tomorrow I suppose I could go ahead and post the summary and questions. Then he could take mine in Febuary...

If that's OK that is. :)

Were the questions that bad?

Its been three days and no one has even looked at the new chapters (I know because I count the views)...

I guess it's just the real life keeping people busy... :(

Your questions weren't at all bad, and I had some ideas about some of them, but won't be able to write anything relevant until tomorrow.

Well, it's been several months since I said I was going to join in... And now here I finally am. I too read the sticky and some other notes, and so finally I am starting with chapter one. I am eager to join in on this project and have been looking forward to tackling this for some time! I just made myself finish the book I had started back in October first. I'm a bit... compulsive... would be a polite way of saying it... about finishing a book before I start another.

Reading commencing now! :D

Thank goodness I found this section!
I joined this board to discuss Tolkiens work in detail & now I can!
I'm sorry to have missed participating in Silmarillion though :(
I'm not too keen on the Hobbit but that's what's going for now & you'll start Lord of the Rings soon.
:happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
Even though it's near the end of the month I have some spare time so I can start reading on chapters 13 & 14 this morning.
Thankyou to those facilitating this.

Welcome to the VTSG, scion_arwenevenstar!! :D

Hope to see you around ALL THE TIME. And you can go and post in the earlier discussed books, if you so wish!!

TWT, I will go to your summary and questions asap and now I hope to be far more regular. I have been busy and on a short vacation in between but am back now. Thanks for rising to the occasion.

Hi rowan, I'm around 8 hours far from the nearest hit Tsunami, so wasn't affected at all. Luckily, everyone I know is fine.

Welcome, everyone.

I'm here, people, and I've read through the chapters and will save the summary and questions on my computer to write a contribution which will be posted tonight / tomorrow afternoon. I'm now on holiday (2 weeks, yippee!), I've finished my exams and am ready to discuss! :)

I posted my thoughts on Chapter One finally! I have been thinking it over in my head for days now. It was a relief to get it all typed out... and then can you imagine my anxiety when I got the dreaded "page not available" error? :woah:

Five minutes of pure terror reigned when I thought I had lost my post. I was finally able to get it by going back and refreshing. My heart was in my stomach! I will be remembering to copy my lengthy posts over to Word before hitting the "submit" button from now on!

Yes, that's always a good idea, I mean copying your texts ;)

TWT, I guess there's a small typo in your summary: Fife and water... Unless my eyes are cheated by some spell.

So, February is here! Is Arvegil here? :? If not, again, I can take up the summary (because I won't be able to do one for March anyway). Let's wait a few days.

What are we going to do in April? I have a suggestion. We've got 14 sections, and 14 threads of discussion. There are some 4-5 of us who have written summaries, maybe someone else also would like to join. So, we could divide these sections, some 2-3 each, and make summaries of the discussions, i.e. 1) what has been discussed 2) what were the main points 3) what conclusions were made. Then we post everything in the April section and, seeing those 'summaries', we can draw the threads together, see any common questions, main strands etc.

Arvegil doesn't seem to have been active in about a month... :( So, it may be that you'll have to take up the summary.

Your suggestion for April sounds quite good. Hopefully we could get a couple of new people to participate in the writing of discussion summaries, then the workload for one person wouldn't get too heavy.

I hope that I'll be able to contribute more in the February discussion. I've been away for almost every weekend in January, and simply don't have time to concentrate on anything that requires deeper thinking during the working week...

The April Idea sounds good. As for this month (Febuary) I suggest that Starlin just goes ahead and posts a new summary. Last month I had to do it, it came in late and as a result we didn't have too many responses. So maybe it would be a good idea to just get it done quickly this month. If Arvegil shows up we can get him (her?) to do another later on...
IMHO of course. :):D:):D
