Roccondil has been posting in the Books forum, so is around. I don't have an e-mail, sorry....

If there is a problem, I will volunteer to step in, but I'm not about to steal someone's slot. I haven't even participated in this project before!

I don't have his e-mail either. Maybe he could be poked in the Books? But, it may be that you'll have to step in, MithLuin (of which I'd be grateful in that case); I remember that Roccondil said at some point that he has very little free time at the moment.

Myself, I'm off for a vacation, and won't be back until Sunday the 16th.

My apologies for being so late.. Indeed I have had very little spare time lately, even for the VTSG. I am now posting the summary and questions for the Council of Elrond.

I can get my materials ready on or about the 1st, but am reluctant to short-change the discussion on what I think is a very important chapter, this month. Should I get things ready for the 1st or the 10th?

Thank you both, Roccondil and Arvegil. I'll try and catch up with the discussion after I've settled down again. :)

Arvegil, maybe you don't have to wait until the 10th, but you could post your summary around the first weekend of August; there can well be more than one discussion going on at the same time.

Okay, I intended to refrain from posting until Book Two, but Chapter 11 and 12 my notes grew to be so extensive as I poured over the summaries and questions, that I had to chime in...

Hopefully I will be in sync with the group soon. I would even like to do a summary, but I cannot commit to a specific one as of yet.

EDIT: *gulp..* :) I will take October,Chapter 5, The Bridge of Khazad-dûm; Chapter 6, Lothlórien. The kids should be settled into school well enough for me to find the time in late September to put this together.

hi! If you all don't mind, I'll just lurk. I haven't picked up LOTR in about 2 years (?), nor have I posted regularly in the aforementioned time. But I'm finding my way around again, so I might be picking up the trail where I left off...

September is approaching, and Gilwen, who originally booked the next chapter, hasn't been around for a while. The discussion about the current chapter is quite slow, but anyway, would anybody be interested in taking care of A Journey in the Dark?

I've just picked up the book again, and in order to catch up more effectively, have skipped the first two chapters of Book II ( ) and started at "The Ring goes South".
I feel I'd have the time and inclination to read both this and the next chapter over the weekend, though, so unless someone else is already preparing it, or desirous to do it, I could do the summary for "Journey in the Dark" this weekend.

Hello all..

As you can tell by the lack of an arsenal next to my name I'm new here on the boards, but not new to the works or Tolkien. I'm looking foreward to jumping in and offering up some opinions as well as seeing what others think..

But for now I'll have to get to reading the next chapter as it's listed.. I will however review all of the older threads just to get a feel of the group and how things have been progressing..

This should be fun,

Welcome to TORC and the Virtual Study Group, Nightbane! :)
I do hope you'll join in! Things have admittedly been slow ( ), and it would be great to see them pick up again.

Arvegil, indeed, your chapter has had so few posts, which is a pity - but I really need to re-read it before I can say anything. :)

Welcome to the VTSG, Nightbane! It would be great to have you participate. :)

Hobby, if you wish, you can gladly take up A Journey in the Dark.

I must apologise my own passivity in last month's discussion - RL has been a bit taxing, and I haven't had any opportunity to reread the chapter properly. I hope to catch up on that discussion, too.

Thanks, rowan, will do so (am busy reading - love the chapter! :) ).

I hope that having skipped something as crucial as The Council of Elrond isn't going to be an impediment.
Maybe I'll get round to read the chapters I skipped in a bit.

Edit: have read the chapter but summary will have to wait till tomorrow, as it's bedtime now. :)

I apologize as well, I have read the August chapter and have been prepping my notes and responses to the questions occassionally here and there as time allows. I need to pull my thoughts together and post a reply so I can get on with September's chapter! :horse:

And welcome to Scott/Nightbane!

Just a quick Hi to everyone, having returned from a well-earned internet-free break. 8) There have been so many good posts here and in the Books forum in the last month or so and I hope to reply to as many as possible (if work doesn't get me first)!

I am going to start putting together the summary and questions for October. I've never lead a discussion before. Do I just go ahead make a new thread when the time comes?

Yes, just start a new thread for it. :) Most people post the summary in the first post, and the questions in another one right after that.

Welcome back to all the prodigals! (said from one of them :P )

I have drafted up the summary for chp 5 (great occupation of my time during son's scout meeting) and will be putting it to printed word shortly. As for the questions, well, I'll just be pulling those out of my hat. :|

EDIT: it's up.
