Not officially - people just have disappeared again. :(

If I've got some time during the Easter holiday, I might try and post the next installment in hope that someone drops by and reads it.

I'm still here. Or at least I'm back. It's been a lively spring for me and I haven't posted anywhere in a couple months.

Right now I am reading the threads and getting a feeling for things here. I'll be joining discussions as they come up if that is ok.

You're welcome to take Chapter 3, BirchTree. :) I think we got stalled after Chapters 1 and 2 just because we got nobody to post the introduction.

Re: Lord of the Rings OOC: ROLL CALL - who is still around?

Postby Notta Hobbit » Tue Nov 27, 2012 2:25 pm

Can we revive this for real this time?

A (very) little background--I am brand new to this forum, directed here from a link in another forum, but have had the Tolkien books as some of my dearest treasures for -- eek, I hate to say it -- 40 years. The link I followed was directly to the Virtual Tolkien Study Group, and I was amazed at the level of discussion. As well as I thought I knew Middle Earth, I found many insights in the posts. So I was disappointed to see it break off after Chapter 3 of The Two Towers. In restarting it, I would try to use the same format, with a new post for each chapter containing a summary and a few questions. I have written up potential posts for most of the rest of TTT already, and would start by posting Chapter 4. The previous posters were doing a chapter a month, but I'm thinking of a chapter every 2 weeks.

If you haven't already looked at the earlier posts, I would recommend doing that to get an idea of how it works. I will put up my TTT Chapter 4 summary later today. I am no more of an expert on the books than anyone else, and definitely less so than those who've read the History and the Letters et al., so I don't think of this as teacher/student but as a round-table discussion.

Thank you! I think you're doing a great job. I'm never the one who can think up questions. But it sure is fun answering them, and seeing how others do! As often as I've read these books, there are always things that I missed or forgot.

Fatty Lumpkin, I don't see any need for people (or ponies) to sign up. There are only a few of us so far and the more the merrier.

P.S. I love ponies, so you are especially welcome!

Fattylumpkin, like Notta Hobbit said, there's no need to sign up. That was the custom long ago, when this thing was more organized and more people were participating. So, just go ahead and join the discussion!

Make it four.
How much have you proceeded in FotR?
If so, then I'll continue with TTT.

And in due time, we can cover RotK ourselves.

So while Novice finishes updating the list, should we start thinking about taking up RotK again?

Is anyone here?
It's a pity that such a good forum should be forgotton again!
Anyway, I want to restart this group. We can discuss a chapter every two weeks. We've now got to ROTK. Is anyone with me?

I'm still here!! I wish there would be some more action. As I said before, I'm no good at starting chapters! Once someone has a topic up, I'll cheerfully answer it to the best of my ability! I love discussing my favorite literature; just give me an opportunity! But I'm NOT a starter!
