So ... what's next?

Postby oakenstaff » Wed Dec 05, 2007 5:03 pm

I'm curious about the study group, but am a little confused about what's happening now, and where. Might as well add 'who', 'how' and 'what' to the list :)

Are there active readers involved these days?

I'm working on some other material lately. More specifically I'm reading Unfinished Tales, along with Understanding Middle-Earth (Martinez), and misc. essays.

I recently bought History of ME, though it's a very nice hardcover edition and I'm afraid to open it! So I might also get a stack of the paperbacks, used, as 'working' copies.

All that is a very long-winded way to say, I might not be reading LOTR in sync with the schedule, assuming it's still happening!

Which brings me back to my original question: what IS happening?

Welcome to the VTSG, Oakenstaff. :)

At the moment, things are rather quiet here; we were reading and discussing the LOTR, but apparently, people (me included) got swamped by real life issues, and nobody has volunteered to post the chapter introductions for a long time. :( Maybe at the beginning of next year, I'll try and get this thing going again, by taking care of the introductions and questions myself, no matter if others will participate or not.

You're welcome to post your thoughts of anything we've been discussing so far, and to participate in anything new that will follow.

I have been swamped for a lot of this year too. Still...

I'm happy to do the summary for the next chapter for early January if you like. :)

That would be TT chapter 1 I guess, quite short, maybe combine with chapter 2?

Roccondil, it would be great if you could do that. :) And, I believe that the original plan was to combine Chapters 1 and 2, just because Chapter 1 is so short.

Hope to get even some people in here again...

Indeed, the pace has slowed a little.

I'm not prepared to do any summaries, but I've been patiently waiting for someone to start the next thread...

Thank you, Roccondil! :) I'll reread those two chapters and make myself post something during the weekend. Hopefully some new people will join as well.

Hello indeed. I don't feel equipped to start a chapter thread, but I do wish those who were doing it before would do it again. I was really enjoying the chapter discussions.

I keep looking to see if anything has been added here. I'd really like to start going through chapters again, not least because now I have a new copy (from a library sale) (the old ones have been buried since the move ~~~ years ago) and can really dig into the details rather than relying on my memory!

I'm afraid that most of the participants have gone MIA. :( As for me, my life will still be so totally crazy for at least a month or two that I try to do so little extra as possible.

But, Arvegil and Morwenna, I'm sure that either one of you could perfectly well start a thread for the next chapter; just look at some of the previous ones, and do the same way. :)
