Hello MelisGreenleaf. Welcome to TORC, I am certain that those who run this thread will gladly adopt you, to ease you into the messageboard.

I do want to add that sometimes this forum is not checked by the thread originator as often as a new person might like.

If you have any questions we can answer for you now, I would gladly help you out until the original poster shows up.

Again, welcome. Have you read the Terms of Service? That alone will get you far.

Cheers,
rwhen

rwhen is our official mom. :D

Yes, Evenstar_of_Imladris (or Imi) doesn't check in very often, so we fill in for her. You might want to also think of a nickname...we'll write the whole name if you insist, but don't be surprised if we shorten it for you.

(Reminds me of the Gaffer: make it short then you won't have to shorten it to use it. :D)

You know, I wonder if I ought to have this closed or maybe someone else who's familiar with the Emporium take over?

I'm working on being here more, but even I don't know where everything is around here anymore! :P

Maybe closing would be a good idea...I know I don't really want to step into your shoes (they won't fit I'm sure!)

Hello!!! I'm fairly new to all things LOTR and to the website and would like to be adopted!!! I don't have any questions currently but would really just like to know some of the people on here and how to use the forums (they seem to all be fairly complicated and everyone that posts on them seems very experienced and slightly intimidating  haha) if this forum is going to be closed, could someone point me in the direction of a similar one? thanks!!

Welcome to TORC, sabbwong!
I'm not an adopter nor the author of this thread.
Emi hasn't been here for quite a while. Real life snuck in and grabbed her.

At one time we were all new.
I remember my first post and how nervous I was.
If you want to get to know some of the people on this site, I suggest you head over to the Talk forum.(Bird and the Baby)
I'm in the TVM thread. You can use the link in my sig to find it.
Or you can go to the HELLO thread there.
Each place will welcome a new poster with open arms.
Just tell them Calma sent ya.

What interests you most about LOTR?
Movies? Books? Actors?

Don't be afraid to drop into an established thread and say hello.
Well, maybe not Manwe, but that's another story all together.
If you find something that peaks your interest, read the last two pages to get caught up in the conversation.
Then introduce yourself, then post your opinion.
Easy stuff.

Good luck.

Thank you for your fast response!!!

Calma wrote:What interests you most about LOTR?

I actually just discovered LOTR about a month ago! I had taken the girls I nanny to the movies and the Hobbit trailer came on which was absolutely life changing! It sounds SUPER nerdy and silly but I seriously feel like that song spoke to me so I watched all of the LOTR movies online and pretty much went crazy into fandom :D I just finished the series (Hobbit and the trilogy) and am SO in love with how much there is to know! Tolkien really was a genius and it's incredible what he did!! I seriously can't believe it took me so long to discover this fantasy is my favorite genre...

It's ridiculous too because I'd spent 12 years of my life OBSESSED with Harry Potter and now I feel like I've broken up with that series for the world of Tolkien and Middle-Earth  and I don't even feel bad about it which is even weirder since LOTR is just beyond everything! But it's great to know that there's an enormous community of people that love LOTR that I can join :D

And obviously the actors are awesome and sexy

What's your favorite thing about it???

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely check out those threads and see what I find! And my curiosity has been peaked about Manwe now...what is it???

A debate forum.

For people with very thick skins. :)

welcome, sabbwong! I'm another Imi adoptee (okay, she adopted me after I'd been here a long time!) Another good place to stop and say hello is in one of the threads in Tom's. They're lighthearted and silly sometimes (often ongoing games). Also, check out the Alliances and Guilds and see if there is one catering to an interest of yours (we have all kinds, quilting, crafting, music, books, archery, cats, dogs, etc. etc.) :)

Doesn't matter that you came so late to LOTR. I'm glad you found the works of the Professor.
A marvelous piece of work to be sure.
Also there are many Harry Potter fans on the boards.
Just check out the "Books: Other Authors" forum and you'll find them.

Gotta agree, the actors are VERY nice. :D
Especially, the Horseboy... (Eomer)
I love the books more than the movies though the movies are great.

Iris is right about Manwe.
If you have an opinion about something and can take a good flaming....
Manwe is for you.
If not....
Stay out.

We all can't wait for The Hobbit to come out.
Now you can agonize with us and it won't seem so long. :D

I hope I have been of some help to you.
If you have more questions just tap me on the shoulder.
I'm usually around here somewhere.

Later...

I'm new and while I've posted a moderate amount of posts I would like to get to know the ropes somI don't mess up. So what I'm saying is that I would like to be adopted.

Hm, and herein we have a slight problem. :)

Eve (or Imi as she is sometimes called) posts rarely on the boards now, and so will probably not be around to adopt you.

That being said...

Welcome! I'm Iris.

The boards are much quieter than when we had great need for the adoption threads, but I'm pleased to see you've been doing your research. Almost everyone around here has a nickname...would you prefer we use your full name or a shorter version?

I suggest that you begin by introducing yourself in some of the threads. A good place to get going is in "Talk" and I invite you to stop by the TVM thread or Hello thread or any of the others that seem interesting, say hello and tell us a bit about yourself. We don't bite (hard) and we're always happy to see new people.

After that...just do what you've been doing. Dabble here and there and find where you're comfortable. Don't be put off if you're possibly ignored sometimes, in some of the more established threads it takes a while to really get going. Be polite and courteous and you'll get a long way. :D I think you'll like it here.

Yeah I posted that before I realized this board was slightly inactive. Been meaning to edit that. As for the nickname I like Billobob but I guess you can call me Bill or bob for short. By the way thanks for the advice, maybe I'll stop by talk.

Billobob, I posted to you in my adoption thread too. I do hope you swing back by there to see what I wrote to you. Welcome to the boards and I hope you enjoy it here like many of us do.
