OOC: to start a humorous rp around King Arthur and his knights

This forum is for role-playing within settings that influenced Tolkien (non-Middle-earth). Acceptable styles include for Celtic, Norse, Kalevala, Arthurian, and Anglo-Saxon.

Well, for those of you who think that having a humorous rp would be fun, this is the thread for you. All I need help on is a basic tale in a likeness to an Arthirian tale. It has to be a serious idea that we can take off on and make into a comedy. This should be fun if all goes well.

Any who wish to join my realm of endless merriment and adventure, come thither to the realm of the humorous Arthurian land: Camelot!<BR>Those who should come across my realm shall be blessed as to be any character they shall wish. Characters that be needed stand thus:<BR><BR> *Knights of the round table<BR> *Evil knights<BR> *Foes in general<BR> *Peasants<BR> *Monks (may be needed depending on how the fates treat us)<BR> *Ladies (may be ladies of the court or shield maidens)<BR> *Pages (may be played out by the character who is mainly a knight if a page is wanted or needed for your particular knight)<BR>And there it is written.<BR><BR>I could use a bit of help. If we just sort of fly off into Arthurs life or something it will be fun, but unorganized. But, if we have one or two of his quests that we start out with than it could be really cool. From there we can move into other quests<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I am totally up for some humor..but I don't know any specific Arthurian tales. Right now I am reading th Mists of Avalon, which is a tale about Arthur, but from the women's point of view. I'm not in it enough to know any specific tales, but I do know the general tale of Arthur if that can help...sorry <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I've not tried humour before (well not deliberately!!)- I usually do angst and melodrama, so deliberate humour might be quite fun.<BR>The big Arthurian quest is of course the quest for the holy grail - maybe rather a large project to do first up. There's always the first part of the reign, and the lead up to it, where Arthur first discovers he is king, sword in the stone, Merlin etc. - it has the advantage of largely being jousts and stuffs at court and therefore having more roles for maidens. The major downside for me as writing it as comedy is that TH White has been there first, and I find it hard to imagine it done in any other way.. <BR>

Ooh! Is this kind of like Monty Python and the Holy Grail? I've practically memorized the thing! And I could be a knight-I am the Battlemaster of the Swan Knights, so I actually have experience! I can definitely do the tournament thing! <BR>

If we do the quest for the holy grail (the big picture) than we could incorperate a lot of extra characters into the story. We can add in our own side quests into the big quest, if you follow me. I would very much like to have the role of Arthur... even though I am a girl. I don't mind playing a guy for this kind of thing. I would if it were anything else. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Everyone is welcome and wanted. We can use all of the help we can get. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I am glad to see this many people interested in this as it is. I sort of had a picture not unlike the "Monty Python and the Holy Grail' story. If you have any suggestions of how we could go about doing something similar, please share. I am open to any and all suggestions. The idea of starting from the beginning area of Arthurs life seemed pretty good to me, but there wouldn't be any knights of the round table. There would be different characters. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Again I say, I am open to any and all suggestions.

hello everybody. I was weondering if i could come in too cos i don't really go in for the humourous ones cos i am better at battles and blood but a step forward in my developement as an RPer would be to do a humourous one.<BR>Can i be a Dwarf knight, and have lkittle armour an stuff like that. And egveryone makes stupid comments about my size and i have to do all the horrible jobs because i am the Privy Knight.<BR><BR>Thanx if i can.<BR><BR>((Hey Boralf, we must be on the same wave length cos i didn't know you were in any of these RPs <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>))

The dwarf knight idea sounds greta. Any creative ideas with the characters could be ver fun and make for interesting quirks in the story line. I am definately going to take up the role of Arthur even though I am a girl. I would very much like to be him ( a male) just for this one RP. I very much encourage any kind of character who will help with the story or even just be there to move the plot along inch by inch. <BR>With that I would like to seriously begin to think about starting the RP around the time when Arthur has began his gathering of the knights of the round table. It doesn't matter if your character really exists in the Arthur tales or not. Making up a character, such as the dwarf knight, is perfectly fine. <img src="http://www.tOLKIENonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Thanx very much. I reckon Boralf's idea about the holy Teacup or something like that would be good. I had an idea about Camelot. It could be Camel Lot, ie a place to buy and sell camels. Like Camel Lot number 145. I dont know, just a thought. It would be the kind of thing Mounty Python would do.<BR><BR><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The Camel Lot thing would be fun to do. Also I like the sound of a quirk like the holy teacup. That could be realy fun. Anything like that is welcome and wanted. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> This is going really good. If all goes as it is going we should be able to start soon.

"What? What? A round table? Unthinkable - how can one tell who the King is?" Harrumph. "Never heard such nonsense but I will be around to show you the ropes. Ahh yes. I'm the brave Sir Ringwauld Fumblefoot, Knight of the Chippenbury Plains, a thinker, yes-what? A thinker I said". Harrumph. "And I can handle a jousting pole with the best of them. Yes the Best of them! Takes a fair bit of fooldinkery to topple off good old Sir Fumblefoot from his mount. You want a brave knight for this table thingummy? Then pray count upon Sir Fumblefoot for an appearance! <BR><BR>"What What?, Gadagh! Fools! Nimcompoopsies - I am not a clumsy buffoon - prithee my fine and stalwart Sirs, do not take all you read in a name. I am of noble birth Sirs what, what!! yes - noble I said"<BR><BR>

Repressed you say. Harrumph! Depressed more like Yes yes Sir Knight you are depressed. Deeply depressed, may I add. I know a Hag (details not to be announced of course) deep within Suddenbury Woods who can sure the Melancholia. Take along the peelings of a toadskin,a few hairs of a white hart and a pint of the finest Withered Dipple Ale and you be right as rain. What what? Try it Sir Knight, you won't be displeased. Repressed? Harrrrumph. You not be knowing what you say Sir, that you not.
