Axordil, thanks for your explanation. The moderators of TORC do a fine job, indeed! And I do not have enough words to express my appreciation for Jonathan and Ted.

Back on Thanksgiving weekend, there was a sudden flock of new folk, I think brought in by Marty's reports on ROTK. The level of language, courtesy, etc., took a turn for the worse for a few days - but then improved - I think I saw somewhere where they had banned quite a few of the new people. I have taken a couple of peeks at Ain't-it-cool-news <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> and it is a cautionary example of what depths LOTR fandom can descend to. There, but for the moderators, TORC would be as well.

I wonder if there is a thread there; how can people be exposed to, and even enjoy, Tolkien, and not undergo some degree of moral improvement? Then again, I work in a church, and find that people are pretty rotten there, too, in spite of plentiful opportunity to know better. So, I guess it is a silly question.

It looked to me like kind_faramir meant well; his post was lengthy and well-thought out, and introduced an idea or two that had not been discussed elsewhere -- he just had not looked for other threads on the topic. But, as you say, I don't know what else might have been going on.

And I do know from working with children that the best response is very often short, firm, and to the point. Works with adults, too - at least sometimes.

While I'm rambling, I just had lunch with a few co-workers, and one of them says that the local cinema (NOT on the "Trilogy Tuesday" list, just a standard ROTK cinema) is going to be showing all three of the movies, beginning AFTER the ROTK midnight premiere and ending with the next day's matinee. I cannot find any confirmation for this, but my co-worker got the info from a friend who works at the said cinema. I suddenly have visions of (a) working all day that day, from 7 AM to 11 PM, then (b) going to the ROTK premiere, then (c) staying all night/day for FOTR, TTT, and another go at ROTK. Talk about a drooling fanboy fantasy! Trouble is, I would probably fall asleep during Helm's Deep. Then again, that might not be a bad idea <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Have any of you heard of this scenario taking place anywhere? Despite a good source, I suspect a rumor. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

Peace to all!
