Anneri, whatever you put in your bio will appear, if you publish a story or picture on TORC. Otherwise, no one will see it. Glad to hear you're having a shiny day!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Saro

Anneri- We're all doing well. I'm starting to go a little loopy from lack of sleep, but things are otherwise good. Peter and my mom put together a decent Thanksgiving for the four of us today and I should have the painting in the nursery finished tomorrow. Hopefully, Griffin will learn to sleep more than 2 hours in a row at night soon.

Saro

Very good, Nienna! But because I quoted it 'die Sterne, Herr, begehrt man nicht' it should mean 'one shouldn't desire the stars, Lord/ master' (I don't know who is adressed there) - BUT I quoted it wrong anyhow and the 'Herr' doesn't fit in. I quoted it from memory, though - it's from a story by Karen Blixen/ Isak Dinesen, in which a young man falls hopelessly in love with a girl but recognizes soon, that he can never win her love, and then he quotes the above.
I like her stories very much - but enough of literature.

Saro, hope you get some sleep soon!

And Cem, that picture cracks me up, because I still remember the story behind it!!!

Well I just dropped in to make sure your all ok, it’s Friday so you should all be happy bunnies, right? It’s been a funny old week for me, some very strange moments<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0>. Anyway, I’ll not be on TORC much over the weekend due to my being in rainy Manchester visiting my recently rediscovered half-brother, which is exciting and kinda scary at the same time.

Cem: How’s tricks, seems ages since we last had a chat. I love the sig pic, poor precious trapped and forgotten in the sink again, naughty girl.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Although I guess your gonna tell me Gollum made you do it!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

99: I’ll hopefully make it to Talk later, so there’s no nee to pine for me.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Alderida: That generated name could have been worse, Simpers Dandruff for example.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Waves to Saro, Anneri and Varda, hoping your all having a great day.

Arve (a riddle wrapped in an enigma)

Awww, Cem! (hugs)

But even if I sound like a broken record, I can only repeat that this and Auntie's is a great place, with great people making it a wonderful place. A place where's always room for you, if you're happy or sad or angry, people will always jump in and make you feel that there're people who care about you. And that's wonderful. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

We'll celebrate your 1000th post later!!!!

Hello and welcome to Alderida!

I'm sorry it took me so long to greet you - I have had a friend visiting from California all week so I haven't been online at all. (I moved from northern California to southwestern Colorado last August. Mary lives in Los Angeles, but we have been friends since high school... which for us was long, long ago. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> I was 'downsized' from Intel about a year ago - with, I'm happy to say, a very generous 'separation' package - but then found it impossible to find work in the depressed California economy. I moved because I was finally offered an excellent job here in Durango. Mary and I had lots of fun this week exploring southern Colorado together - I'll post more about that at 'Auntie's'.)

I think you'll like it here. It's a fun place to discuss the LOTR films - I at least have found a bit more humor and intelligence at TORC than on some of the other Tolkien messageboards. Information about ROTK will be pretty limited for the next few weeks as Jonathan Watson, the site administrator, was contacted by Peter Jackson and New Line and asked to be diligent about controlling "spoiler" posts. There were some doozies! A beloved TORC poster (Marty) is a member of SAG and got to see ROTK on Thanksgiving Day and posted about it extensively. (The good news is he loved it - and so did his "Tolkien virgin" girlfriend.) Sadly, though, that's one of the threads we had to delete.

Welcome and well met!

*waves to everyone else* And thank you all, as always, for being so welcoming in my absence. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Ah, good to see you, Ethel. Your weekend holiday sounds lovely!
And I honestly don't see what additional information we need about ROTK after Marty's thread! Apparently everything was in there! But I, being a good girl, didn't read it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> - only Enty's thread. Yep. Weeell, and the one which mentioned the cuts. You have to be forewarned, haven't you?

And see, we didn't wreck the place in your absence... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Hi All!!!

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, the main bulk of what I want to say is going to be in the tea with aunties thread, but I just wanted to stop in to welcome elessarqueen. Nice to meet you!!! I am also a new adoptee here, and a wee bit younger than most of my other counterparts in here. Oh well, it doesn't feel like that anyway. I am from Australia and have only just started to post on here, so we have something in common. I was a tolkien virgin before seeing the first movie (yes I know, I am slightly ashamed) but now I am as much of a rabid fan of the books and movies as everyone else in here. Actually, a lot of people know me as a hobbit, because I am fairly short and have other certain characteristics in common with the halflings...................just ask Nienna. Anyway, I must be off, but welcome!!! I hope to be talking to you soon!!!

And also, g'day to everyone else, sorry I haven't got more to say, I'll see you around. Oh and Ethel, welcome back, it seems like ages since I've talked to you, but I have made myself more at home in your absence, so it is nice to see you again!!!

Varda

Thanks so much for the welcome!

I'm a teenager and I absolutely love reading, and J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis are my authors. When I learned of The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy coming out, I was immediately hooked so I decided to read the trilogy before seeing the movies. I also read The Hobbit after I read the trilogy, and read the Return of the King 2 more times because it's my favorite of the three. Although it's not really relevant, I'm also really active in sports and school, including NHS and SADD. =) I'm glad to be on this site, the people seem really nice and I can't wait to figure out what I'm doing! haha Thanks so much again!

Hi Varda2779 - nice to see you posting at Auntie's. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

elessarqueen - hello and welcome! Are you American? (I ask because many TORCers are not, and I don't want to assume.) If you like Tolkien and Lewis, another author you might like is Lloyd Alexander. He wrote a lovely series of books called the Prydain Chronicles, based on the Arthurian legends. I missed them during my own youth but had great fun reading them to my son when he was young.

He's 19 now, and off at his first year of college. This is a Good Thing, but I miss him very much.

Glad to hear you read LOTR before seeing the movies. I usually like to read the book a movie is based on before seeing it too. I was actually very alarmed about the idea of films based on LOTR because I love the books and honestly did think they were "filmable". I don't think the movies are perfect, but I do like them very much.

Although it's not really relevant, I'm also really active in sports and school, including NHS and SADD.

Actually, it is relevant in an Adoption thread. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> It's all about getting to know each other a bit. But... er... what is "NHS" (I'm guessing it's not "National Health Service"!) and "SADD"? I don't participate in any sports, but I do love hiking and swimming and anything to do with the outdoors.

I'm glad to be on this site, the people seem really nice and I can't wait to figure out what I'm doing!

Most of them are very nice. The one place that you might be want to be a little wary of is the Movies forum. Great place, but it has a lot of "old time" posters who can be a little impatient with newcomers. It's best to lurk and read a bit before doing a lot of posting there - and especially before starting new threads. We'll be happy to help you get going and to "watch your back" though. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Please feel free to join in the chat over at the "Tea with Auntie" thread linked in my sig. It's specifically for our adoptees to have a friendly place to chat, although some non-adoptees also participate. Why does the thread have such a stupid name? I plead insanity, that's why!

Welcome and well met!
Ethel
elessarqueen~ Perhaps you meant to post this is here & accidentally put it in Auntie's!

I have a question, though. What are the pictures that are underneath each post? How do you get them? For example some people have certain LOTR characters along with words and phrases. I hope someone understands what I'm not explaining very well!

People with signatures are PMs, or Premier Members! For $5 per month you can get a signature, personalize your title, have a buddy list & more! For more info use this link!

Also you can make smiley by using things like : ) = <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> (minus the space between them) For the whole list & also useable html you can click on the special symbols link below the done button when you're posting a reply!!

Elessarqueen: Pleasure to meet you although I see the wise and all knowing Lady Cem has already answered the questions you posted over at Talk. Ethel and Saro are among the best there is, just remember to watch out for a certain scary Mod called Kestrel.
Welcome, elessarqueen!
