Welcome Varda, you've picked the best place to be adopted. And you're a lefty too(!), even better! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> You'll be meeting Notlistening over in "Tea with Auntie"; she's also from Australia. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Hi Ethel and Saro, I actually have a question for my adopters:

How do you change the info in our "profile" settings? That's fairly easy, 99: click on "my info" up there and go change. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Hello Varda (sorry, I just cannot remember numbers)!

Welcome to Varda! As an obsessed Tolkienite, you'll fit right in around here. I look forward to getting to know you better.

Alcanielle--Hope your school holidays were fun. Have you had to head back to the salt mines yet?

Roxi--How are you doing? And where are you doing it? Haven't seen you around much.

For those plowing their way through the Sil (which I love), here is a fascinating website called the Encylopedia of Arda. If you come across something in the Sil and need more info, here's a good place to check it out.

http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/

99- I think that whatever email you list is the one TORC will send your subscribed thread notices to. Do you use outlook? I created a folder that sends all my subscription updates to a separate folder, so they don't overwhelm the rest of my mail.

Saro

PS- It's who's stalking WHOM.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Hi guys! Just got back from a big camping trip with all of my mates. Well you couldn't exactly call it a camping trip, we stayed in luxury cabins, but even though it was a bit expensive we felt like we deserved it after all those awful exams. Spent most of our time in the spa baths, it was rather amusing. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome, muchly appreciated believe me.

Saroneuroe (can I call you Saro?)-thanks for that advice, I have grown up a fairly sheltered life so I'm a bit naive when it comes to things like that. Oh and yes New Zealand is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous, oh it is every bit as beautiful in real life as it is in the movies. Coming from a country like Australia, trust me, the idea of a country with such green grass, NO snakes and a very strong love of their indigenous culture was a bit of a shock, but a good one. I look forward to sharing my MANY awesome experiences over there with you.

Nienna-it sounds like you and I have a lot in common, I'm glad somebody else was a Tolkien virgin before seeing the movies!!!

Cem and bessthebard (can I call you bess)-I am looking to get to know you both aswell!!

Ok well thats all I have to say for the moment, just another big hello to everyone out there, thanks for the welcome!

Just popping in to say hello to Varda! I'm notlistening (really I am<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>) and as 99 says I'm from Australia too. From a country town as well (Bathurst, the place with the noisy race) but now live in Sydney! I hope you enjoy the TTT SE when you get it (well of course you will!) Would love to hear more of your NZ tales. I have been there twice but would like to go back and see where they shot the movie when I get a chance. We are having a bit of a moot in Sydney on the 10/11 Jan if you can amke it down. I think there are some aussies on the board who are from QLD as well. There's an aussie thread over in Alliances and Guilds if you want to meet the others.

You picked the perfect adopters in Saro and Ethel! They are wonderful. Come over and visit us all at Aunties, the best spot in Talk!

see you there!
hi to everyone else!!

nl

I see you've already met some fellow adoptees. We and other TORC friends hang out to chat at "Tea with Auntie" over in talk. When you feel comfortable, just follow the link in my sig and introduce yourself.

Saro

Hi Ethel and Saro!

I'm a new member to TORC but have been lurking for quite awhile in Movies and some in Books too. I like this Adopter idea, and Ethel your sig pic is making me laugh...I'm a fan of lightbulb jokes. So here's a little about me <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I'm a single mom--my daughter is 11 and I think she mainly puts up with my love of LOTR because, as she puts it, the movies are full of "too much pretty all in one place" My first time reading LOTR was when I was 11 or 12 and I revisit the books pretty often--I'm so glad they still have the capacity to sweep me into Middle Earth, even after all these years and rereads.

To me, it feels like an exciting, but kind of bittersweet time to be a Tolkien fan. I love the movies and am so excited about ROTK, but I think I'll be sad at the same time, cause they'll be done. Well, until the SE DVD anyhow.

alderida~ WELCOME!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Ethel or Saro will be along to give proper greetings! I'm just some odd person who always hang around here!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I feel exactly the same about the ending of the movies! I've made some new friends & strengthened old ones in my community over these movies... it'll be sad not to have these movies to look forward to again!

I am a younger-20 something, from Indiana! I work at a vet's clinic & also our local shelter. I have loved Tolkien for a long time & a friend of mine finally got me to check TORC out in July! Now I can't stay away!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> It's addictive!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

As for Anneri~ I'm just joking! The pic was the hardest for me to do! If you've got that you're in the clear!

~Cem <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif"border=0>

Thanks for the welcome, Cem! It's nice to be here waiting with everyone for ROTK to finally get here already <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Someone at work noticed my ROTK countdown clock and commented on it...heh they don't know the half of it! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

You're in Indiana? I'm in Michigan myself, in the Detroit area. It's bitterly cold today, after being in the 60s Sunday. Glad I finally broke down and got those leaves raked up.

Working at a vet clinic sounds like it would be really interesting. Are you thinking about becoming a vet somewhere down the line?

I always find it hard to describe what I do. I work for a national health information service--we answer calls and also do instant messaging for people looking for information on cancer.

I *heart* those countdown clocks!! LOL... which reminds me of a funny story! Last year one of my friends stayed up til midnight to see if her countdown clock would do something special when it was done counting down... it didn't. She's crazy. I laughed.

Michigan! That's pretty close... I live in the upper part of IN! Bess & 99 are going to MI for something for ROTK, I believe. 99 could be more specific about this... all I remember is she's going to wear black! LOL <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

I'm very forgetful! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I love working at the vet's, but I'm perfectly happy to just assist. I've been working there going on 6 years now & it took me 2 months to realize that I didn't want to be one! I do love working at the shelter & would be more likely to want a higher position in a shelter situation.

You help people with cancer problems... that is a very important job! Bless you!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

~Cem <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif"border=0>

Edit: Leaves... lol! I was putting mine off... they were suppose to be raked by Sat or get fined! Anyway one really windy night they all disappeared!! Oh well! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
Saro, I don't want my regular email out there (the one where the thread subscriber updates go to.) I have another email address, but I can't list it separately, I tried. Oh well.

Varda, I can't believe how I was completely transformed in one weekend. I left work on a Friday a normal person, and returned on Monday a major Tolkien geek. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I am extremely short... Oh, so you're a Hobbit, then? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Welcome, alderida! You've chosen wisely, Ethel and Saro are the best! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I'm a single mom too, my daughter is 17. I never did get my leaves raked up; we had our first "real" snowfall this last weekend, and now I can say "what leaves?" <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Well Cem, you got everything wrong but the clothing part. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Repeat after me now, I live in M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A, home of the MN Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Wild and the Mall of America. Entwife of Fangorn is driving up here to Minneapolis from Illinois, we're both attending the Carleton College benefit premiere of ROTK on Dec. 4th. And yes, I will be wearing all black. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Cem, you get fined if your leaves aren't raked up? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> I'm glad mine are under the snow.

99
Hi alderida! Nice to meet you!

Yes, precioussss, you chose the best adopters on the board. I am very biased as they adopted me as well and very glad they did, yes we are.

I am from Australia like varda. I am single and not a mum. I live in Sydney, holding down 2 not very exciting part time jobs whilst waiting for dream job. And my biggest excitment for the year will be going to see ROTK in 33 days. Yes I have to wait longer than all northern hemisphere peoples.*pouts*

Everyone here is wonderful (well, there are some scawy peoples in movies) but you will soon get the hang of it. Welcome, Alderida!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> We'd be happy to adopt you! If you haven't done so already, take a moment to read the first post in this thread. There's some helpful TORC info there.

How did you come up with your screen name?

I've been a bit busy lately. Baby boy #2 was born 11/20. I'll try to answer all your questions promptly, though. Once you feel comfortable, feel free to stop by Auntie's to chat with your fellow adoptees and some of our TORC friends. Just follow the link in my sig and jump in. Don't even *try* to read the whole thread.

Happy TORCing!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Saro

It’s been awhile, again, more work means less time on TORC. Still I need money for Christmas and the Liverpool Moot, oh and to pay the bills as well.

Welcome to Aunties alderida, it’s so cool to see so many regulars dropping by to greet you. That’s one of the reasons for adoption threads, a friendly place to ask questions and meet people. Why not go over to tea with aunty E in the Talk forum, we all hand out there and are always happy to make room for one more.

I’m a guy, in my late twenties and I’m English. I work for the National Health Service as a Reception Manager and I also do a bit of bank nursing with people who have Learning Disabilities/Mental Health problems. Sounds like you have a difficult job, providing advice and help to people with cancer and their families.

As for those m00bies people, there all bark and no teeth. Now’s probably a good time to start posting over there, as the boards are filling up with other n00bs so your less likely to get someone snapping at you.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Waves to all the other regulars.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Arve

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! Makes me feel right at home <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how I came up with the screen name...I was aiming for something sorta hobbity but not-quite; sort of elven-ish but not exactly. Well actually I'm not sure where I came up with it. My daughter pointed me toward one of those hobbit name generators and it came up Dimples Danderfluff...and that just isn't quite me, although she gets many laughs out of it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Congratulations Saro on your new wee one...Griffin looks so sweet!

See y'all on Aunt Ethel's chat...I saw the other night it's in the Caribbean? How lovely, especially for this time of year!

Welcome Alderida!! Nice name. I am also a new adoptee here, so it is nice to see a new face (or messages at least) around.

Notlistening-nice to meet you! I would love to come to the moot, but I am pretty sure that I can't come, it is a long way to travel and my folks probably wouldn't let me. They don't really understand the extent of my obsession with Lord of the Rings. In New Zealand I did so many things, eg white water rafting, jet boating and luging in Rotorua just to name a few, so let me know if you want to hear about any of those.

Nienna (or 99, I don't know what you prefer to be called)-I could probably be considered a slight hobbit. In my senior profile, the column with what I was in a past life read 'hobbit'. It kind of fits, considering that I am only about 150cm tall (or short), and I have rather hard wearing feet, that is, I walk around barefoot most of the time, except for at work, meaning that they have fairly hard soles. Oh and they are also a little hairy on top (it sounds strange I know, but the hair isn't bushy) so I am often called a hobbit.

Ok guys, nice to hear from you all, I am now going to take Saro's advice and head on over to 'tea with Auntie' or something, so I might see you all there!!!

*Waves to all, old and new*

I actually have a question! In the 'my settings' function is something called 'my bio'. So - where does your bio appear when you use that function? Is it exclusively for people with PM?

Oh, I'm so very happy today - even if we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, my mood fits - I could embrace the whole world! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
