I can help you with that request! Go to http://www.upperdeck.com and do a search on Lord of the Rings. They should come up. There might be a hyphen between upperdeck, I can't remember. Try that link and if it's wrong add the hyphen.

I thought I'd pop back in to ask some questions I had while reading "A Tolkien Bestiary". Let me know if this does NOT qualify as proper adoptee behavior <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

- It says here that hunting boar was a common sport amoung Men AND Elves. I was under the impression that Elves were a bit more advanced in terms of lifestyle, knowing their lack of need to do so?

- Were the Elves and Dwarves enemies because the Dwarves killed ancient Elves for a Silmaril? The Dwarves say it's the Elves' fault...for what?

- The illustrations in the Bestiary, along with the dicriptions given in Tolkien's books, seem to portray certain folk in Middle Earth as Asian-like in physical feature (in a way). Why did he do this? Was it on purpous? Do you see where I'm leaning with this? It's touchy, very touchy.

- Pippin asks himself who exactly Gandalf is as they ride to Gondor atop Shadowfax. Do all Hobbits have such little knowlegde of who Gandalf really is? Even Bilbo and Frodo?

That's all for now <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
Lembas Junkie

Hello again Lembas_Junkie – these sorts of questions are probably best asked in the books forum (and probably most of them already have been <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>) You can do a search by clicking on the tab in the top right of the page. I’m no Tolkien scholar but I’ll do my best since you have asked them here <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Regarding the boar hunting I would imagine that it would be done for sport as much as for food, it was a common sport for noblemen in the middle ages and they certainly didn’t do it just for the bacon <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

The elves and dwarves never got on particularly well, being so different, although the Noldor did work with them often in crafting things. The trouble really started though when Thingol asked them to make a necklace to hold the silmaril that he had, the dwarves loved it so much that they killed Thingol for it and sacked his Stronghold, Menegroth – they were pursued and a battle was fought between the elves and Dwarves (when the elves recovered it) – many on both sides were killed and each blamed the other from then on.

This is indeed a touchy subject – but you have to remember both the context of the story, in a mythology set in an area similar to Northern Europe where such features would be considered strange, and perhaps evil, and that the age in which Tolkien was writing was less politically correct than today. It does NOT mean that he was a racist however – I know that there has been a lot of discussion on this subject and advise that you look it up for opinions far more erudite than mine <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Hope this helps - but you will get much better answers from our Books folk <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Back again- I have a question maybe someone here could help me out with. A couple of days ago I subscribed to three new threads. When I checked the list of threads I am subscribed to, they are on the list. I am however, not getting an e-mail notification when someone posts on them. I do get the notification for my 'old' threads. Anyone have any idea why this is happening or what I can do to fix it?

Hello Donnam, I'm sorry I can't help with your question - I don't subscribe to any threads anymore, it was just too much hassle getting all those emails - what I do instead is a search under my own username which brings up all the threads I have answered recently and I can see which ones have had new posts.

BTW I saw your Arwen costume in the Pictures thread and all I can say is WOW!! It's a work of art and I'm really impressed. You looked good in it too - very Arwenny! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Lembas Junkie! You are in "search mode!!!" LOL!

wOOt wOOt is the "raising the roof" noise from the disco era. It had a come back a couple of years ago and people would make the noise that is approximated by WOOT WOOT as they left bars or clubs or discos to show joy, laughter, enjoyment or just plain drunken enjoyment!

I have tried twice to make someone understand what the noise is like but you have to hear it! it is like explaining a specific smell to someone ....... impossible.

Just think of wOOt wOOt as your happy noise!

Tjeerd! It's wonderful to see you! I'm so glad you stopped by to say hello!

I'm just checking in to see how everyone is doing. The adoptions don't seem to be happening that frequently these days, but we'll see what happens after TTT opens on Wednesday.

Hi, Mammo, Alys! Double posts happen, and most often it is a server error but sometimes it's a slow connection. I try to copy my reply before I send it, just in case it doesn't go through. Then, if I get an error message, I don't go back and resend my post. I try to see if the first one did, in fact, get posted. If not, I paste in my reply and send it again. This is not a fool proof method and I have had some double posts myself. Just remember that the edit function, while not removing the extra post, is a good way to say something else or just "Oops!".

<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

edited for spelling or something like that

A member of the internet costuming group I belong to is this wacky DJ from Australia. He is constantly writing the funniest stuff and just last night posted this letter from Sauron to Santa. Thought you all might enjoy it

Memo From Mordor- Sauron's Letter To Santa

Dear Santa,

Well, it's time of year again, where has the time got to! Barad-Dur
is looking very festive, even if I do say so myself. Shelob has put
all eight of her stockings up and I have had several hundred candied
elves hung from the battlements. In keeping with the spirit of the
season My Orcs have had several scout parties of Gondorian Rangers to
dinner...sorry, that should read "as" dinner. I have Persuaded My
Nazgul to wear their red, fur trimmed bobble hats and the
miscellaneous Fell Creatures look very fetching all decked in their
foam antlers. I racked My brain (an amusing process!) trying to come
up with a way of spreading My good cheer throughout Middle-Earth and
finally decided to gift All Folk with a traditional White-Out
Christmas. Let the blizzards roll!

Now, I know I've been bad this year, One does, after all, have to set
an example.
(Thank you, incidentally, for placing me on top of your list of Bad
Boys for the Second Age running. Ming, Baron Harkonnen, Vlad, Spike,
Magneto, Bester and Apothis are green with envy! Oh, that's actually
mildew? Must remember to have them fumigated.)

But for Christmas this year I would really like to get the full set
of weapons of mass destruction collectible trading cards (with the
signed Britney Spears holofoil card please), waterproof steeds for my
Nazgul, a Nokia fingers-free Palantir, a pair of novelty Hobbit's
Foot slippers, a dried elf ear anklet for Shelob (make that 8), a
wagonload of chainsaws for Saruman, a bottle of Lidless Eye
drops....or if you can't manage any of these, I should still be ever
so glad to get any old trinket that you might have lying in the
bottom of your sack...yes, that secondhand Ring of Power will do
quite nicely.

Ta very much!

Yours Insincerely,

Sauron. CEO,
Mordor Inc.

P.S !

Be assured that last year's unfortunate incident with the anti-eagle
ballista as you entered My Airspace will not be repeated. The Witch-
King has been ordered to keep an eye out for you, so even if he does
get a shot off he probably won't be very accurate....
