Welcome to TORC & MAAMA, morquinga! Sorry to take so long to get back to you but I have to share the computer with my offspring so I don't get on as often as I'd like. In any case, we would be honored to adopt you!

If you skim over the first post in this thread, you will find some helpful information as well as links to other threads with more useful information. If you need an answer more quickly, you can always e-mail any one of us by clicking on the eyeglasses in the upper right hand side of any of our posts. Alys is our UK representative, Mammo is from the eastern US and I'm in California so between us, we cover a fair amount of time zones.

If you have any questions that you feel haven't been addressed in the first post, or just don't feel like going back that far, please don't hesitate to ask. That's what we're here for.

Once again, welcome and happy posting!

Pipeweedsmoker, the restriction on posting your age if you are under 18 is to protect minors from unethical people who prey on underage internet users. It is a violation of the TOS to post personal information about persons under 18 years of age. The TOS states:

Personal information about our members: The staff of Tolkien Online care deeply about our members and are interested in providing a safe environment in which to post. There is no perfect method of preventing access to predators without restricting access to everyone. It is unwise for persons of any age to give out personal information about themselves on a public messageboard. Adults may choose where and how many personal details they wish to post. However, persons under the age of 18 may not post their ages, specific locations(nothing more specific than state or province) or legal names. Please refrain from asking others their age or specific location. Persons who appear to be inappropriately curious about our member's personal information may be subject to warning or ultimately user banning. If the staff of Tolkien Online has reason to believe an individual is attempting to gain improper information about another person for criminal purposes he/she will be reported to the proper authorities.

I hope that helps.

Well, if you've done your time lurking you're pretty familiar with how things work, who to avoid, etc.! There have been quite a few people who have de-lurked recently and we're happy to have you!

But feel free to ask as many questions as you like, if you have any. We also have a chat thread in the Tom's House forum for...well, chatting. It gets lost from time to time but there's a link in my sig that you can click on and it will take you straight to the thread.

Welcome, Cuiamin! We've had a number of people de-lurk recently and we're happy to have you! Looks like Mammo has gotten you off to a good start. Again, please feel free to ask any question that you might have, that's what we're here for!

P_g, well, I think you're correct. GH is a virtual wasteland and I rarely even lurk there anymore. Come on over to the chat thread (link in my sig) and share what's been happening down your way! I've been posting my money pit woes over there!

Hello !

I'm an adoptee from Satch and Elwen's Gingerbread House. I'm a real real long time lurker who finally got the nerve up to start posting. I thought I'd pop in this thread and say hello because I noticed that Ateelah is from Ventura County. Me too!

*waves at Ateelah*

Hi Ateelah! Can you see me waving from where you are? We're practically neighbors !

And hello to everyone else in this thread!
Hello, motorwife! We're so happy you decided to delurk! Where in Ventura County are you located, if that's not too intrusive a question to ask? It's always nice to know there are fellow TORCers close to home!

I'm in Simi Valley. Your typical two kids, PTA, soccer mom type. How about you?
I'm the old lady over in the gingerbread house thread. I think most of the adoptees over there are teenagers and I'm over 40!
Aren't we having a gorgeous day today? Beautiful Ventura County weather!

Motorwife, I live in Ventura (almost in Saticoy) and work at Oak View Library. The saga of the house we purchased a little over a year ago can be found in the chat thread over in Tom's House. There's a link in my sig. Feel free to pop in anytime, it's not restricted to MAAMA adoptees at all.

Welcome to TORC and MAAMA, Oleander! If you haven't already read the first post in this thread, that's a good place to start. If you still have any questions, please ask them here. Don't feel you need to read the entire thread but there is some helpful information and links in the first post. There is also an FAQ thread which may answer some of your questions. I hope you have an enjoyable experience here!

Motorwife, some days it's nice to be able to just count birds! Here in Southern California we get plenty of opportunities for excitement Freeway accidents, earthquakes, fires, El Niño, celebrity trials...

<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Welcome, Yvanna! MAAMA is happy to have you! Alys and Mammo (who puts the "M" in MAAMA!) Will also welcome you as they have an opportunity to do so. We live in three different time zones so it gets a little tough for us all to be here at the same time!

Tell us a little bit about yourself, where you're from, etc. Don't tell us your age if you're under 18. If you're over 18, then it's a personal decision! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

My first post in this thread has some helpful information and links but it's by no means comprehensive. There is also an FAQ thread in this forum that has answers to, well, Frequently Asked Questions. Please feel free to ask anything you like and if you have an urgent question you can always e-mail any of us by clicking on the little glasses at the upper right hand side of our posts.

Once again, welcome to MAAMA and I hope you enjoy your time at TORC!
