That's certainly not a stupid question. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I can tell you this: as a premiere member myself, I perish the thought of not sticking with it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Seriously though, post counts stay the same. Money grow tight, and the administration understands that. They would not cancel your entire account just because you don't want to be a PM anymore. The only thing that changes is the extra features: they become unavailable to you again.

Thinking about getting one, are ya? Perhaps for a certain MOME competition? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> I can't say enough good things about getting a premiere membership. I've had one for about two weeks or so and it really adds a lot to the experience of this website. I love expressing myself through my signature pictures. There's also an instant messaging service which allows you to talk to other premiere members.

I won't force premiere memberships down your throat (because for some people, it just isn't financially possible), but if you'd like to know more about them just let me know. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

*E*

Yes, last night I saw that Nilson's thread had been locked. I was just as surprised as you, though. I have no idea why. The reason you couldn't post there was because it was locked - that restricts any more posts coming into a thread. I remember you asking about that trailer. I had never heard anything about it until you mentioned it, but lucky for you, a new thread will answer all your questions! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Check this out:

An Exclusive Report on Sixteen Minutes of TTT Footage! (MAJOR SPOILERS)

Yes, there is a sixteen-minute trailer, but it is unfortunately not available to the public and won't ever be. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

mekilno1, 4 pages of spam? I have not checked out that link yet (terribly sorry, I got a new job and must take off really soon), but that is something you should alert the Mods about. They are able to delete entire messages if needed, and that thread sounds like a prime candidate. Here's what I would do: when you read this, go to the main page (with the list of all the forums). At the top of the page, it will say a certain amount of users are currently on the boards. See who's on, and the first Mod you find, send them an e-mail with a link to that thread and what the problem is. 100% of the time, this has worked for me and they reply fairly quickly. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

*E*

Thanks *E* I've been thinking about going premiere, but I won't say that the MOME isn't influencing me. Hey, we judges need to advertise! But really, I'd love to hear what you have to say about the extra features. I didn't know about the messages with other members.

UPDATE: mekilno1, I checked out that thread and it is without a doubt, a major Terms of Service violation. I e-mailed Nilson_The_White, so it will be taken care of. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Earwen, I had wanted to get a premiere membership for some time, but Celeborn month kinda got me to hurry the process! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> There are many great things about having memberships, including:

it only costs five dollars a month, and the money pays for the rather large fees it takes to keep this place going.

signatures. These are the pictures some people have at the bottom of their posts. You can put pretty much anything in there you want (PG-rated, of course). <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Submitting a picture only takes a day to be approved.

titles. You can choose whatever you want, instead of having a title based on your post count.

instant messaging. This allows you to talk with other premiere members. You can send messages to members who aren't premiere, but they cannot send one back.

There's more to it than that, so if you interested, check out this link: Frequently Asked Questions. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> It's worth it, and you can always unsubscribe to it. Try it out for a month and if it doesn't interest you, it gets de-activated after you don't pay up.

Elirranel: who r u kidding???? Only myself. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> Sorry if it's taking a long time to download. I think my dad sometimes downloads programs into our computer to make the connection faster, so I'm used to not having to wait too long. You won't regret waiting after you've seen it, though. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Well, the House of Elrond is my alliance now because they got rid of Imladris. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> I can't believe I forgot to go over this yet. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> Right now, you are on default, which is Gandalf. If you'd like to change your alliance, go into "my settings" at the top of the page and you will see a wide variety of banners to choose from. The significance of these (TORC-wise) is nothing. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> There are some guilds that only allow people of a certain alliance, but for the most part, it's just something that's nice to look at. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Book-wise, the alliances were to acknowledge what people you belonged to. There were several Elvish Houses. For example, Galadriel was of the House of Finarfin, so that's the banner she would have carried. In the film, during the Last Alliance scene, you can see all sorts of banners, such as Gondor, and Gil-Galad. Here are some great sites with info and pictures of all the banners Tolkien described:

Emblems and Heraldry, Flags, and The Second Age flag insignias. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Three of TORC's banners look different than the others: the Houses of Elrond and Cirdan, and Servant to Galadriel. This is because they were designed by Weta (the SFX studio who worked on the films). If you check out this thread, you will see a lot of discussion of new banners the administration is working on. Some look really fantastic. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

*E*

Heh heh. I don't think you're obnoxious. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I just meant that some newbies are (mekilno knows what I'm talking about). <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Double and triple posts are a bundle, but they happen to everyone. They happen to me a lot lately because whenever I open my e-mail, I get disconnected from the internet. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> So, I could be in the middle of posting, then it disconnects and I figure it doesn't go through, so I post it again and find that I've double-posted. But what can ya do, eh? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Double posts are embarrassing, but as long as it's not spamming then you're fine. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I heard of one fella who posted 24 messages! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> We chalked it up to an epileptic seizure. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Don't worry if you can't check in here all the time. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I got a job this week so I won't be posting quite as much. I don't think that'll be a problem though, because I used to be on here 24/7 and that wasn't good at all! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Working 35-hour weeks will give me a nice, healthy dosage of TORC. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

*E*

Ah! The good ol' FrodoTook. I know what you mean, and I've tried to click on it before but my computer won't show the picture. Hullo, E!! How are you? I haven't been around lately (surprisingly). I have a ?, a very stupid one, but I notice a lot of people keep using the word "ME" a lot. Why is it capitalized? It doesn't fit into the context when I read it as it is, if you understand me.

Well, here it is: the list of Tolkien Online forums. Some I have not visited, so I can't give you much info on them, but others I have spent much time in and can give you a few tips on them. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Welcome!
Mostly it is new people asking questions about the site (similar to the One Ring forum, except with newbies), and introducing themselves. If you look skim through these, you can find several valuable threads about everything from signatures, to guilds, to guidelines of conduct.

Announcements
When TORC goes through major changes or introduce something new into the system, it will be announced here. Only Mods and admins may post.

Adoptions
Three guesses and the first two don't count. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> For the benefit of those who are just passing by this thread: this is the forum you come to be adopted in. The Adoption Agency thread is where you let us know you want to be adopted (either there or in the particular thread you want to be adopted in). I prefer people coming to me to ask to be adopted, because at least I know they think I am best suited for them. It seems that the adoption agency is just kinda grab whoever asks. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I think its a tad unfair - I don't want to take away adoptees if they would be better suited to another adopter. Anyhoo...

Events
Come here to see if any Tolkien events are happening in your area. There are several conventions every year and TORCers are always looking to get together. A very good forum for planning.

The Books (Tolkien)
Discuss any of Tolkien's books. No "who's hotter than who?" threads. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Try to write on a level that he would be proud of.

The Books (Other Authors)
Any non-Tolkien books that you wish to discuss.

A Tolkien Virgin
Those of you who are new to reading the books may come here to talk above what you've thought of them so far, and questions you may have. Similar to Books (Tolkien) but for the less-experienced readers.

The Man
Discuss anything to do with this dude who wrote the books. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Language
Discussions of Tolkien's languages. No more "how do you translate/pronounce this?" threads, please. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Virtual Tolkien Study Group
Pretty much what it sounds like. Strict guidelines, though, so do read them.

The Art
Really good spot to talk about all the Tolkien art out there. Or, if you have a website featuring your own LOTR artwork, feel free to post it here and have others' input. We have some very talented artists here! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The Collectibles
Discuss action figures, replicas, limited editions, etc. There are many types of collectibles to chose from.

Movies (Lord of the Rings)
Discuss the film versions. It's mostly about the Peter Jackson trilogy, but feel free to talk about the Bakshi version and Hobbit cartoon as well. Oh boy it gets busy around this time of the year. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Movies (Fandom)
The Kevin Costner of Tolkien Online. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Mostly inhabbited by swooners & netspeakers (and those who make fun of swooners & netspeakers), so enter at your own risk. It's a bit of a mess (most people get off-topic and threads get out of hand) but hey! If you gotta swoon, you gotta swoon! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Movies (Non-Tolkien)
Discuss non-LOTR films.

Games (Tolkien)
Discuss games set in Middle-earth.

Games (Non-Tolkien)
Discuss non-Tolkien games. (See? Most of these are pretty self-explanatory. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> If there's anything else you need to know, there will be guidelines.)

Decipher: RPG, TCG, and Fan Club
Discuss the trading cards or Fan Club information.

Tom's House: The Lighter Side
This is where many of us play. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Several games and joke threads around. Come here to be silly.

The Bird and the Baby: Talk
This is for all off-topic conversation. Whatever's on your mind that doesn't fit in the other categories.

Councils of Manwë: Philosophy
Discuss more complicated matters. You don't want to come in here with a flighty attitude, as things can get serious sometimes. Really great discussions sometimes. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The Prancing Pony: Role Playing - Tolkien's Middle-earth Only
Role-playing is hugely popular here at TORC. If you want to start up or join in on existing ones, read the guidelines - some of these threads are years old. This forum in particular is just for storylines involving Middle-earth.

The Green Dragon Inn: Role Playing - Tolkien-Influenced Fantasy
Role-playing for storylines with a Tolkien influence, such as Celtic, Norse, Kalevala, Arthurian, and Anglo-Saxon.

The Choirs of Eru: Music
Discuss music. You may talk about the film's music, but there are several threads on that already, so you may as well join in on one of those.

The Peoples of Middle-earth: Alliances and Guilds
This is where all the guilds are. Always read the first posts, and ask before you join in. Such a varied group of threads and posters, you should see for yourself. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The Scriptorium of Imladris: Writing
Discuss and share your experiences with writing. Submit your own work, but read the guidelines first.

Tolkien Online -- The One Ring
Having problems with the site? Suggestions? Complaints? Post them here.

Premiere Membership Support
For those of you who don't have PMs yet, you may want to ask questions here, or read the FAQ. This is mostly for those who already have a membership.

There were a couple of forums that I never visited until recently (such as Events which, thankfully, I am now aware of some great events I must join in on), and others that I didn't even know what they were for when I first joined. If you are still unclear on some, ask me and I will help you as best as I can. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

EDITED to fix some of the bold titles.

*E*

Hello *E*
and since it's question time again, here one from me:

stumbled on a couple of people with 'few' posts (always relative, heh?) but with a huge renown. E.g. posts less than 100, renown over 1000. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0>

Alandriel

PS: just to stroke my ego - have you seen the TTT wallpapers?

NM, I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but the only thing that restricts our posts is if they are a ToS violation, or in the wrong forum (in which case it will probably me moved). What kind of post were you thinking of? Run it by me. If you're not sure what forum it goes in, I can help you out there, and I'm sure you can tell what is a ToS violation and what isn't.

I should mention that if you are under 18 years old, you may not say your age. This is for your own protection. Even though TORC is a great environment with even better citizens, not everyone who reads the messageboards is a member here, and since there are internet prowlers, we ask that you do not talk about your age if you are under 18. If you are still in high school, that's fine, just don't say that you are 14-17, or whatever. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

aladnriel, dear, I just checked out your thread in the movies forum. Sadly, I could not see any of the thumbnails. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> I feel so terrible about this because the pics you submitted to TORC were great, and based on the feedback, I know these wallpapers are great as well. If I get a chance to talk to my dad when he's not busy, I'll see if he can figure out what the problem is (he's really good at that stuff!) <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I am sure that how long you've been a member has a huge impact on your renown. There are people I've seen that have only posted a few dozen messages, but they've been here for three years and have a renown twice that of mine. We call these guys "lurkers." <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

*E*

Ooooo! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Best of luck to ya. RPing scares me because I suck at writing, and there are so many good RPers here. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

*E*
