This is the thread for my adoptees. Post questions in here, and I will answer them to the best of my ability. This is NOT a conversation thread. A conversation thread has been created in Talk.

For anyone interested in our Family tree, "Grandpa" is Bilbo25, my adopter, he may or may not pop in from time to time.

Please, all my adoptees, tell everyone what brought you to TORC, what Tolkien and Tolkien related books you have read (Hobbit, Silmarillion, Lord of the Rings, etc.) <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I ask all who post here to refrain from using Netspeak in this thread. Generally, people who use excessive netspeak on TORC are frowned upon. Also, please try to use good grammar and spelling, otherwise you may find yourselves easily dismissed as a newbie of no consequence by some of our oldbies and middlebies. I understand this is more difficult for those of you who do not speak English as your native language, but do your best. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

If anyone wishes to contact me; my contact info is in my profile. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

My Adoptees (Listed in order of their request to be adopted)
Didi
Fairy
Galadriel_2
kristinj96
*Galadriel*
luthien*tinuviel
I_Dan
Elen-Sil
Lady_Of_Lothlorien71
Manwe_the_wise
lirien
PrincessOfDolAmroth
rhubarb
Riverwind
Sadell
Eylon
eleklya_

I will begin with lessons in this thread shortly.

There's another way to get a different ranking; but it involves signing up as a premiere member, which costs 5 U.S. dollars per month, or $60 U.S. dollars a year.

Hey dear mum, I guess you should make a FAQ part in the 1st post, then you won't have to give the same answers lots of times when there are more newbies in here for asking for help (I hope that will happen fast, we obviously need more brothers and sisters...)<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
I think most of the adoptees will often pose same questions <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

[Editing for correcting spelling into a bit better English <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> (I forgot that was a rule here <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>)]

Under each post you see buttons Reply, Top, Bottom, Next, Previous.
But posts of your own also have a Edit-link underneath... Clicking this will make you able to update the contens of your post, and if it is the first post of the thread you can also change title!

I hope that helps. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Elen-Sil: My sincere apologies. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> It normally doesn't take so long for me to get the basic info together, but RL has been a literal nightmare these past few weeks.

What is OOC? It has something to do with RP i think.

Good guess. OOC stands for Out of Context. An ooc comment is "off the record". An OOC thread is for participants in a thread to discuss rp development, and for new participants to submit their requests to join rps.

where can I submit picktures eventhough I'm not a premiere member? How is that possible? That may sound like a stupid question, but hey I'm a newbie!

You can submit personal photos to several links in the Talk forum. (I'm finishing up the first lesson, so the different forums and such will be explained in fuller detail as soon as I finish the coding. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> ) You cannot have a photo attached to the bottom of each of your posts unless you sign up for premerie membership.

Thank you for the info! Do you do any RP? Because I was thinking of joining that, it seems really fun! So my question is this:

When I find an interesting RP and I want to join, do I just make up a character that can go along with the story and then the storymaker approves it, how does things go on then?

What if I do something in the character that the storymaker dosen't like?

And how can the storymaker keep track of everything wehen it grows big and dousins of new characters wish to join?

Elen-Sil: Yes, I am in several rp's on this board, as are several friends of mine. The ones I am currently in are drawing to a close; though I do know of an rp that I have been reading that you should be able to join easily. I personally reccommend The Plague of Middle Earth. The writers have barely begun the story, and they are looking for new people to join in. If, after reading the story, you find it is something you could easily create a character for, post in the OOC Thread

If that rp is not what you are looking for, there are literally hundreds of other rp threads that you can join in.

When I find an interesting RP and I want to join, do I just make up a character that can go along with the story and then the storymaker approves it, how does things go on then?

Personal reccomendations aside, let me run through the steps you must go through before you join in any rp thread. You must read the Guidelines for Roleplaying.

After you have read through the guidelines, it is time to create a character. Your alliance says that you are from Valinor, which implies that you are one of the Valar. It is best to have your banner match with whatever race you choose to create your character in. For example, if your character is an elf, but you bear the hobbit banner, you may find that "So-and-so bends slightly to shake hands with Elen-Sil, hobbit of the Shire". Mixmatched banners and characters can be confusing, unless you state previously that you are indeed an _____. (You decide how to fill in the blank.)

Most roleplaying characters cannot realistically come up against immortal characters, so it is best to avoid creating such a persona. (Elves being the obvious exception.) Elves and Men are very popular, with hobbits and dwarfs being slightly less so.

When you create your character you can do so in one of two ways:

1. You can create a character for specifically for a certain rp, adapting the character as necessary to rp in other threads.

2. You can create a character, and then choose an rp that the pre-made character would best fit in.

Once you have created a character, post in the OOC thread of an rp (some rps OOC in the thread, but most have a seperate OOC thread) announcing your intentions to join. The starter of an rp will ask whether you have read the guidelines, the rp and the ooc thread, and will likely ask for a character bio.

A character biography gives your character's name, age, race, and character history. You can post your character bio in the Character Archives thread.

Once your post your character bio (or provide the link to it), you await the approval of the thread starter. Most thread starters will get back to you quickly. If the answer is "no" (very rare), you can search for another rp. If the answer is "yes", have fun! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

What if I do something in the character that the storymaker dosen't like?

If you are unsure that a storymaker will like an idea you have, email them. On the upper right corner of every post, there is a pair of glasses. click on those glasses, and you will see the profile of that poster. In most profiles is an email address. If no email address is listed, request that the thread starter contact you, or state your idea in the ooc thread.

And how can the storymaker keep track of everything when it grows big and dozens of new characters wish to join?

Most thread leaders are involved extensively with other writers both in the thread and behind the scenes, and thus they cannot afford to lose track of what is going on. Thread leaders have been there from the start, and the rp thread does not seem so threatening to them, though the larger rps are very intimidating to join. If many new characters want to join, the thread starter may permit all, some, or none in. It depends on many factors. The two main contributing factors are how far into the story the characters are, if an applier has a history of "one liner" posts: posts that don't meet the rp guidelines.

If you like, when you decide how you want to set up your character and when you decide what rp you wish to join, I will help you "ease in" to your first rp to make the process easier on you. My email address is in my profile. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Good observation Didi! But maybe those who haven't been around for a while has got other things on their mind or even got further so they don't need to ask so many questions. And also it could be that some of them don't have a PC. But still though, we would like to see more of our "sisters and brothers"!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

And for getting back to track, Melika: What about the RP, you have got my mail, haven't you?
