Hi, I'm back everyone.

Dear PM, are you planning any lesson number 2?

And who was the first member here at TORC?

Oh, and PM; I haven't got the time to read EVERYTHING of the RP, though it seems very interesting and exciting! Do I have to read everything or can I just ask them what is going on?
You said you'd get me in there, but I feel I can't be completely out of course (what happens in the RP) And you can tell them I have the best english-grades in my class if they need to know if Im a good writer. I know I am. What do you say we do?

Elen-Sil: I can't believe that I missed your question. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> (Thrice accursed midterms! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif"border=0> )

Yes, you must read an rp thread in its entirety. If you do not, it will increase your chances of having an rp post that doesn't fit well with the tone of the rp. If the current rp'ers learn that you have yet to read the thread in its entirety before rping (and this is especially true of those who have been rp'ing for months or years), they will not think very highly of you.

If you are too busy to read the Plague rp in it's entirety now, i suggest you wait until your schedule lightens before jumping in. Of course, if you don't want to wait, you can try contacting either Leslie or LT of the rp, and they will help write you in.

What you need to do is to post in the Plague of Middle Earth Word Aside thread. Explain that you want to join the rp, that you are a good writer, but that this is your first rp and need help. Leslie and or LT would be glad to help. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Your question about the earliest member is rather difficult, since many of the "originals" rarely frequnet the boards. Many more have been deleted when the admins decided to delete usernames that had not been in use since a certain month. As far as I have been able to determine, Jon and Ted, the admins, were the first to join the messageboard.

As to my dark banner, depending on circumstances which can be located in the Alliances and Guilds forum, I may or may not be ridding myself of this banner soon.

LOL, Didi. I knew what you meant. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Ok can someone please explain me this? What do you mean with 'Downloading the RP', why does an RP need to be downloaded, isn't it just something to be posted and read in a thread here at TorC?

Didi, I can't sit on the net and read it there, it's best, since there are over houndreds of pages that HAS to be read before I can start, to have it as a Word document. I wouldn't be doing that if I was at the beginning with only one or two pages. Understand this, I'm bumping in while they are really off going and they know what its about. An RP is a story, not just something you get a short briefing of if you want to start right away.

I'm back but I'm completely lost. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0>
Anyway, where's that 2nd lesson, PM?

This has not been a good day. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

Didi: Yes, you can read a thread online, but you can also download it to read it offline later. Downloading an rp to be read offline is something done by many people on the boards. Compared to most of the Board's rp's, the Plague rp is not very long, but as a word document it is exceedingly long.

Elen-Sil: I saw that you were accepted. Congratulations! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> By the way, remember to edit your posts if you want to add a comment, don't just hit "reply" again. *winks at Elen-Sil*

Tread carefully, a thread does not need to be often updated to be a good thread. Just as diamonds and precious jewels are nearly always found by digging under the Earth, so are some of the best rp's on the boards found only by some digging on the boards. This is where the search function comes in handy. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

PM you said you didn't wanted this as a conversation-thread. ....

....So maybe you should start an conversation-thread at talk or anything?

And where are those other adoptees? Are we allowed to put another character in our own RP-post without informing the one we for example want to converse with? My guess: I guess you have to inform or at least ask the RPer, but do you also have to ask what the other RP-er's person can say?

-And what is okay for the RPer to say? My guess: You discuss that in The OOC-thread, but do you have to ask?

Can I make up persons that I need to meet in the story without having to make up all that info? My guess: no. Well, let me answer that rp question. You've pretty much hit a grey area, because it depends on several factors.

First of all, do you have the permission of that other rp'er to write dialogue or actions for their character or characters? If you do, then you pretty much have a green light, though I will often make comments in the OOC thread that say something like "if you don't like this, let me know and I'll edit"

Basically, you're allowed to put a lot of basic dialogue into the mouth of another character, but it's always a good idea to make sure that you have the rp'ers ok to write in dialogue. Some rp'ers are rather strict about that. I'm not as strict.

Well, as long as the dialogue is family friendly, and you treat other characters with respect in the dialogue (that is, you take seriously how that character would most likely react and not how YOU'D like them to react.) But, if an rp'er has any restrictions on how he or she wants his or her character written, then those are either discussed in an email, on an instant messaging service, or in the OOC thread.

Secondly, are you giving that other character a chance to respond in your posts? When you end an rp post, it's best to end with a bit of dialogue or an action that other characters can respond to. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

"Can I make up persons that I need to meet in the story without having to make up all that info?"

I'm guessing that you're refering to minor characters, such as an innkeeper or a parent or guardian of your character. If they will not be characters that you will frequently refer to or use in your rp, then you don't have to, but for consistancy's sake, it's a good idea. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

(As a side note, Elen-Sil, are you asking this for the Plague of Middle Earth rp? If so, then feel free to email me [see email in profile] and I'll show you the ropes to get you into the action. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> )

Yes, I am in The Plague of Middle-Earth. Though I haven't read everything I have to read, it goes pretty fast, so I guess I will be ready to RP VERY soon. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
You're in that one, aren't you? I must say that the RP is very exciting. Looking forward to post my very first post in the RP or at all; the WHOLE RP section of TORC. I'm so inspired by it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

(By the way: As a word-doc it is 177 pages... Just fun to know)

Oh, and LordTarquin -in what way do you know PM? Do you know when she will be back?

Glad you are stepping in for her

First time I've seen someone else than Didi, PM, LT and the newest adopted TORCers here!
Glad you stopped by and I would be even more glad if you would hang around here a little bit more than you do... and if someone could answer this question:

Who has the ability to post an Announcement?
I see for example that Running Deer can do this, EntwifeLost, etc, etc.... Why excactly those? And I have also noticed they are premiere members....

And Lord Tarquin, can you take a look at the RP-person Elen-Sil's info before I post it in the Characters Archive?
I'll e-mail it to you right away, so it should be in your inbox soon. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Edit: Realising that you don't have MSN...

Elen-Sil: Mods are mods because one of the admins asked them to help police the site. Moderating is a high honor reserved for those that the admins feel would best serve TORC.

By the way, I saw your charcter info. Well done, Elen-Sil! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I'm very proud of you.

Ok, here comes the skeleton of lesson two, when I have time, I'll be able to rework it as I envisioned it appearing. A plague upon real life! Oh well, at least one of my jobs will end soon. Until then...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

Edit: I have begun a new conversation thread. You can practice roleplaying or writing or just talk about anything you like.

What is Ring Action and what do I do when I'm replying to that kind of message?

Example: ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤Ring Action¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

I believe that you are refering to the Rings Guild. The phrase "ring action" announces that a Ringbearer is about to do an action with his ring. To get a ring of your own, all you have to do is ask Darkmagus for one. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

What's an open RP?

An open rp is an rp that other TORCers can join. A closed rp is one that all rp'ing slots have been filled.
