Hello, everyone! I went to the midnight showing and it was so much fun! I love staying up late, even if it is finals week! LotR takes precedence over such trivial matters as homework and studying.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Stormy, I switched to viewing messages in descending order and it is much easier that way. I haven't bumped any threads yet, though. By the way, my dad is an extremely dedicated, life-long Raiders fan, and therefore the rest of my family are Raiders fans too. Glad you're having a better season than we are! Hey, there's always next year!

Hi, Ellie, Loopy, Aremin, Jil, and Gil!
~NFElf

Hey everyone! Nice to meet you Parm!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I caught ROTK yesterday! And it was wicked. Absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> On my favourite from the movie trilogy, I'm wavering between TT and ROTK.

Hmm, I could whip up some pasta. You can't go wrong with that..I've just dropped by to say "Hi" to everyone then I'm off to scout for 'shrooms for dinner! G'day all!

Stormy, I have heard (i.e. read) that Movies-LotR is a dangerous place. Is that true? Is is Fandom that I should beware of, or the regular forum? And what is there to beware of? The thread I've posted in in Movies-LotR seems fine. Why would people there be any different that anywhere else?

Is there a chat thread that corresponds to this adoption thread?

~NFElf

LOL NFElf, m00bies (or Movies: LotR) is far, far, far less scary that it used to be. I'd avoid fandom, unless you have a habit of squeeing at the mere mention of Orlando Bloom, though. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> As long as you follow the advice in the TOS and what I've listed as helping hints so far in this thread, you'll have no problem in m00bies. I'm fairly respected there now, so that should tell you something. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

As far as the chat thread is concerned, I was waiting for a bit until we had a pretty stable base of family here. I think that's pretty much accomplished, so the chat thread should be forthcoming. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Oh Stormy, this is so much fun!! It's NOT FAIR that I have to go to school tomorrow! I want to stay on this site until I have read every single thread! It's so cool being able to participate in the RotK threads from the beginning, instead of just reading threads from ages ago and wishing I had been there. I missed a lot! I didn't read the books until last winter, after I'd seen the Fellowship, and it took me several months. Once I had fallen for the books, then I started getting interested in the movies and websites. Now that I'm here I can hardly tear myself away! Thank goodness I was in time for RotK!

So, why did mOObies used to be so scary (and why is it called that)? I do love Legolas, but only Legolas, not Orly himself, and I'm not that bad. Of course I will follow the TOS!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Okay, GTG now. Goodnight! Thanks for being such a cool adoptor!
~NFElf

I just have to say that the Return of the King was amazing, breathtaking, and utterly GOOD lol. Yeah, I did like it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> So anyway, I also give props to GandalfStormcrow for having such a great adoptee thread.

*Brings in pizza and starts handing it out to everyone*

NFElf, netspeak is more or less used as a joke here on the boards, and mainly in the movies fora. Hence, "newbie" became "n00bie (with zero's instead of o's), and eventually "movies" became "moobies." This was part of a long effort to make m00bies more friendly to n00bs and other site users uncomfortable posting there. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

As far as m00bies being scary, there are people there who are amazingly, incredibly knowledgable about filmmaking and the entire process surrounding it. I know at least two or three posters who are filmmakers, one is alleged to work for Disney. But aside from that, m00bies in the past was a boiling cauldron of animosity between purists and revisionists, with us pragmatists happily sitting on the fence and explaining that there are good things and bad things about books and films alike. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Not to mention, (also mainly in the past) a few posters absolutely ate n00bies for lunch. The reputation was such that a few months after I joined, the m00bies forum actually had a "cute and cuddly" themed month to try and convince the rest of the site that they "weren't that bad." <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> It's much much much easier for a n00b to break in to m00bies nowadays, but there more than anywhere one would need to make sure that a topic has never been discussed before starting a new thread. Use the search function as if your life depended on it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> But don't worry, I've got your back.

Lady_Aremin, thanks for the props! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I appreciate that.

And welcome, Firithlothien! Take a few moments to read my first posts in this thread for some quick hints, and various questions have been answered throughout these seven pages. Feel free to ask me anything you need to know, and please! Make yourself comfortable! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Jilbo and several others make sure there's always food on the table here, and the fridge is stocked with Mountain Dew and other various beverages to wet your whistle. Glad to have you as the newest member of the family! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

><>
Stormy, I mentioned this in the chat thread, but here I'm going to ask officially. Squiddy proved that the thread "What did they get right?" exists by finding it for me, but when I search for it by the full title or just the word "right" with or without username halplm, it says there are no results. How can this be? And if I can't trust the search function, how am I supposed to know whether a subject has been discussed before or where?<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif"border=0>

I've been doing a lot of reading in m00bies lately and the discussion is pretty interesting. It seems like most of the people there have read the books. Is that true? Most of the threads I've read talk about the books just as much as the movies, which I like. And quite a few of the people and discussions seem very intelligent to me.

What is the Tolkien Virgin forum about?

Out of the 37,090 users, about how many of them are actually active on the site? Most?

~NFElf

Good morning and grumbly Monday to everyone! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

NFElf, I'll try to do a search for that thread in a minute, my search-fu is usually pretty good. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I'll see if I can figure out why it's not coming up for ya. And yes, better than ninety percent of the people on this site have read the books at least once, and many of them have a better grip on the themes and precepts in Tolkien's writing than the rest of us could ever pray for. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Heya, Ellie. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

elfshadow, you are most welcome here.
