Yes satch, 'motorwife' is so hard to spell. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

Actually, I posted under this name in one thread about a month ago, and it was a serious post. Nobody said anything about it. I went and replied (with the exact same POV) in that very same thread a page later, and I got a reply from Leo. The first account had 5000+ posts, and the second had 40 something. Post count doesn't really matter, but I think I would wait until I had 20 or so.

Talk is a nice forum if you want to start out there. People are nice to the n00bs and they generally don't get flamed. Then there are the books forums where flaming only occurs if you insist that Jar Jar Binks is a much better character than Gollum, and that maybe Tolkien should have written a Gollum more like Jar Jar.

I know it's a bit...ironic that somebody with 5000+ posts is telling you that posts don't matter, but I remember when I was new they mattered a lot to me. That's what led me to my 'spamming of fandom' days <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> At least I typed properly...and in my defence I don't know if you know but the old fandom was MUCH better than the new one <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Duffy and Tooks have both posted in this thread, and I know that Kestrel is keeping an eye on it (*cough* <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>), so I think a few people know who YOU are and can help you out. Movies isn't really all that scary once you start posting in there, and you realize that unless you've got a reliable source up with PJ at least half of your posts won't be read unless you're Lidless.

Oh yeah, and when you post there be sure to copy your post into word, 1) so if it's lost then you can just repaste it into the reply box, and 2) so you can use spelling/grammar check. Spelling is important in some of these forums <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Oh yes, and don't make the mistake of telling people that you hate 'bad grammer and spelling'. I've seen it happen multiple times. Everybody that does it looks dumb <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Hi Satch! So nice to meet you! I can't wait to hear about Berlin. It must have been the experience of a lifetime.

I'm glad you and El agreed to adopt me. If motorwife is too long then you guys can call me Jen. (unless you can think of a clever way to abbreviate motorwife. I seem to be drawing a blank on that)

I appreciate any and all advice you can give me. Even though I lurked for so long, there's still so much I don't know. Hopefully you'll be a able to help me loosen up a bit (still very nervous about all this).

Okay I'm throwing a serious question out there. Why is it so hard to believe that Satch and I are adopters? Okay so maybe I understand about Satch, but me? Only Smaug and Troysie can see the irony in this, so I just don't get it. Am I...bad? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Satch, if you truely need a nickname for motorwife you're getting pretty bad. y not jst tipe lyke diz al da tyme???// lollollollooololol!!!!!!!!!!1111 I could make a movie out of it. 'How to learn Bernilese, by Satch Mo'. Sounds good! *thumbs up*

Here's a question for my adoptive parents....once I have subcribed to a particular thread, how do I unsubscribe? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere (probably because I'm not looking in the right place)

No, but I remember my friend's mother did. *drools* Oh yeah those were good.

I did make the lovely pie in my signature for Thanksgiving though. It took 4 hours. I'm a very productive cook, aren't I?

That recipe would be very much appreciated! I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back! I've been so busy and I got on a few days ago to post here again, only to be swept out the door immediately after.

Hi to the new members!

About myself: I didn't lurk these boards long before I joined, but I hope I've made the right move by just jumping in and getting adopted. I love reading Tolkien's works, and I love the Lord of the Rings movies. I live on the east coast of the United States, and I love it.

Anything else I should share?

I was just wondering where you had gone! I'm glad you made it back though <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I didn't lurk when I first joined, and I didn't get adopted either...although I'm not sure if there was an adoption forum back then <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> You will rarely meet anybody who's lurked for as long as motorwife has, so you have nothing to worry about. The best thing you can do right now is lurk a bit in the forums you are interested in, and as soon as you think you get the feel of how the forum works, post! Just make sure you don't say anything insulting <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

I live on the East coast too. I don't know anyone who lives on the east coast.

Our adoptive parents are pretty cool although it appears that one of them (hi Satch!) is quite the party animal! Hey! I actually posted something in MOVIES !!!!!! *gasp!* It's buried on the fourth or fifth page of a thread so no one will probably even notice but hey...it's a start! I'm just so excited about ROTK that I had to say something. Can't wait to see it again.

See, it wasn't too bad was it? If somebody is reading a thread they most likely read your post, even it they didn't reply to it. The only reason somebody would reply to a post of yours is if they disagree or strongly agree and aren't capable of putting their thoughts into words as well as you did. Most of the time if you aren't Leo/TLE/Bernd/Vyn, ect...your posts won't be commented on. That's the way movies works, I love the forum but you aren't going to be noticed unless you crack everybody up or turn into an Eli Cash.

It's a start...if you can continue to post in movies (especially now since ROTK came out, we're getting new members and a lot of old lurkers posting so the spotlight won't be on you), you'll build up confidence and can become a regular poster there. Once you get into things it's not as scary to post there as it is when you first get there.

Think of the forum as high school. Bernd/Vyn and co are the football players/cheerleaders, then you have your random popular people, then the swooning newbies are the outcasts. Once you understand (you probably already do) how the forum works and you've got the hang of it, the only thing left to do is post!

I'm seeing ROTK tomorrow with my friend that's visiting from CA. I can't wait, not only do I get to see the damn movie but I can post in movies again without missing the spoilers. I can also figure out where the heck PJ's cameo is
She lives in San Jose right now. I've got family in San Diego and Santa Maria though. My parents are both from CA.

Hm...could you just tell me the scene and what he plays? I'm still staying away from spoilers. There's a good chance that I'll be so wraped up in the movie I won't even notice that PJ is suposed to be in that scene <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

I'm in Southern Calif. Ever heard of Simi Valley? I've got family in San Diego and the bay area also.

And look for a black haired pirate on a pirate ship. I'm pretty sure that's PJ. Very fast and easy to miss. I'm not 100 percent sure it's him but it sure looked like it. His kids have cameos again.

Aramel, sure we'll adopt you if you want. You apparenty know your way around TORC (you have 500+ posts!) but if you have any questions Satch and I can hopefully answer them <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Motorwife, saw a thread about that, Gondorian children right? Well I'll check tomorrow if I remember.

My parents used to live in the Bay area, mother grew up in San Diego, my father near Santa Maria. Been all over CA now. I'm currently in CT, but I just moved here from Hong Kong in August. A slight change for me <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

EDIT: I just looked up Simi Valley on yahoo. Didn't realize it was so close to LA. My goal is go lose weight until I weight 110 lbs so I can be Tinkerbell in Disneyland. You get paid 500 bucks a night! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> You're pretty close to Santa Barbra too. I've driven through Simi valley multiple times, when I was younger we would drive from Santa Maria from my grandparent's house to Anaheim. I went to Disneyland every summer until I was 13. That year I went to Disneyworld in FL <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

We go to Santa Barbara all the time. It's beautiful! We've been to Disneyland twice in the past year but I'd like to go more often. I love that place. I pretend I'm going "for the kids" but I'm really going for myself. I hear they catch Tinkerbell at the end of her flight in a couple of big mattress type things. She just sort of slams into them. I wonder if that's in the job description.
Living in Hong Kong must have been incredible! Do you miss it?

I talk about Satch? Sheesh poor girl... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> And CC...spunky chick? Okay then <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Motorwife, can you believe they've closed down Space Mountain? That made me sad. Without that they only had 3 mountains plus Indy, so that made all the lines a lot longer <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> Then again there's California Screamin which I went on for the first time last year. I've been terrified of loops my whole life.

Do you have any idea when they're going to open Thunder back up? I think the lines must be pretty bad down there around now. And no Space Mountain until 2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm alright <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> I just miss those rides. BTW if you ever go to Disneyworld...Splash mountain is better but Thunder Mountain isn't nearly as good. Plus they don't have Indiana Jones so the lines on the bigger rides are longer. It does have People Mover though, which I love <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Yes I miss HK a lot. Still trying to adjust to the lack of buildings and people, the endless amount of trees and the fact that it gets below 50 degrees here! Doing pretty well though, I've met some people and I'm starting to fit in. It snows a lot though...so we get a lot of ice. I've decided I strongly dislike ice.

Oh yes, and when you're in movies, unless you're Wildwood, you don't use as many smilies as I have been using <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Hi CC! Nice to meet you, too! *waves back* You're one of my favorite posters in movies (I've been lurking there over two years). It's been fun sort of watching you "grow up". I feel like I know you even though you don't know me.

Elwen...
There's been no definitive word on when Thunder Mt will be back up. With that ride down, and Space Mt down and the Submarines gone (among various other closures) the lines and crowds have been horrendous. There's no place for all the people to go so they just clog up the walkways. I heard that last weekend Disneyland achieved total gridlock. People were stuck on Main St for an hour at least and it was pretty frightening for those in the middle of the mass of humanity. I'd never go anywhere near Disneyland during the holiday season.

We don't get ice down here! We only get wildfires. We nearly lost our house during the October wildfires. The fire came within about 30 feet. It was quite terrifying!

My aunt's neighborhood was on the front page of the NY times, she's in Scripps Ranch in San Diego. The fires were pretty bad! Were you evacuated? Apparently the fire got up to Scripps Ranch and my aunt wasn't even evacuated <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>. It's a big place and was on the other side but she could actually see the flames. I have to walk down my (extremly long!) driveway every morning, and it's always covered in ice. It'll snow one weekend, the snow will melt and we'll have ice. The ice will start to melt and it will snow again. There's never an end! It's never good when you're running down your 1/4 mile (most likely <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>) driveway at 6:30 AM in the dark with ice on the ground. Never fun.

Just wondering...did you see *me* grow up in movies? That wasn't a plesant expierence <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Oh but the submarines have been gone for a long time! I loved those when I was younger...but then was afraid to go on them, and when I finally realized that was pretty dumb since I was a swimmer they got rid of them <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> It's the lack of People Mover that makes me sad now. That was actually a nice ride <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

When I heard about Thunder I was guessing it'd be back up around February, but I haven't heard anything at all. I'm hoping it'll be back up by May, otherwise people will be pretty dissapointed this summer. Luckily CA Adventure is open, so that will take some of the people, but it isn't nearly as good. Ever since Pirates of the Carribean came out that line has been huge. I remember it only being a 20 min wait max, but last summer after the movie came out it was up to an hour! The even had to extend the line. Haunted Mansion might be a bit worse but that line moves pretty quickly and will take some extra people. I can still imagine it being packed though, since the two biggest rides are out. I'm thinking they need another water ride in that park. Maybe I'll call up Bernd and see what he can do <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

This is all complete rambling, and nobody that hasn't been there won't understand it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I go every summer, so I've never been there when there aren't long lines. The longest line I've waiting in was for Rocket Rods, but it broke down after about half an hour and we got free passes so we waited 10 minutes the next morning to get on.
