sounds awesome, its just i'm terrified of hieghts, i've tried everything to conquer my fears. i just get freaked out, after a while i get used to it though. anything over ten feet scares me, thats why i won't bungee jump, you can't pay me enough. i might be alright, after take off, just as long as i don't look out the window. have you ever noticed when you tell somone don't look down they do it any way

I love to look out the window, but the worst part of a flight for me is take off, because after hearing about that concord almost 5 years ago I'm still afraid of taking off <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

I don't love hights, but they don't bother me too much. The last time I was in Sydney I was dying to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but it was around Christmas time of 01/02, and there were huge bush fires around Sydney, so we wouldn't have been able to see anything <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

i went to a baseball game over the summer. the heights freaked me out, but i got used to it. i just sat down and concentrated on the game, we won<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> cicinnati reds and chicago cubs. i'd love to go to a different country. new zealand or ireland, france. i could go on and on.

If it's that important to you, you'll make it there. NZ is an absolutely gorgeous country, and I hope to go back some day (if not move there), since last time we didn't see any of the South Island.

Wynken...thanks for the <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif"border=0> ! I also wish I knew elvish. Maybe we can talk Satch into giving us some lessons.

Elrin...I don't like to fly either, but will do it if there is no other way to get there. My husband on the other hand will NOT get on a plane under any circumstances. He's absolutely terrified. Consequently, all of the family vacations we take are driving vacations. We pile in the minivan and hit the road for two weeks at a time.

Elwen...I saw your photo at the NYC moot. You look just the way I picture my daughter will look when she is your age! You could be her, all grown up! She's only eight.

I can't say I look bad in those pictures because you compared me to your daughter (<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>)! know what you mean about cameras. i almost never take a good picture. i'm not camera shy, everyone gets a kick out of the looks i give people. you know the person in a group that keeps people laughing and smiling, thats me. if i don't smile or laugh somthing's wrong.

Back a few (possibly a few dozen) posts, I told Elrin how to submit a picture. It should be pretty self explanitory though, so I'm looking forward to seeing that picture!

Adorable? Are you kidding me? I have a few good pictures, and none of those are them! I started to like cameras a bit more after going to NZ for some reason, and most of those pictures turned out very well. Also educational tours through schools are a lot cheaper than most. I think this one, going to Scotland, England and France over ten days was around 1300 U.S. dollars. When I was 10, my dad used to tease me about moving to Hong Kong some day. I thought it was funny, since Hong Kong was some far off random city in Asia that I didn't know about. That summer/fall, my parents told us we were moving to Hong Kong. I started to laugh. Then they said, no seriously, we're moving.

And my father had no clue until then.

Opportunities arise at the most random times.
my friends tease that, i'll spread a map out on a table, take a pencil close my eyes and point. with my luck it'll be in the middle of a ocean or sea or lake. i want to move to montana or some state a 1,000 miles from home. halfway around the world is good.

Mullet...My husband is from Oregon! He grew up in Salem and his parents still live there. We're planning on driving up there in April for a couple of weeks so his parents can spend some time with their grandkids. What city are you in? I'll wave as we drive by and throw some gingerbread out the window.

Its about fifteen minutes west of Salem so you don't have far to throw<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I'll have to scatter some gumdrops over the Willamette Bridge in honor of your arrival<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> It makes me happy to know a fellow TORCer will be so close to home.

I'm so excited! Flaming Mullet- No Way, you're in the most beautiful state I have ever been to! My boyfriend was born and raised in Oregon, all over the state (well the west coast of it anyway, not really much on the other side of the state). We went there to see his parents last year. they live in Eugene. I love that town, I want to move there. We went to the coast to the Sea Lion caves, & Newport, Oregeon City, & Crater Lake, & Klamath Falls to see his mother, and Portland to see his sister. I had THE BEST TIME EVER. I love that place. We are going to go visit again soon (I hope soon anyway) and if we do I want to meet up with you that would be so freakin' <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif"border=0> ! I told him and he said that was only 4 hrs from where his Dad lives and he said we can go to Salem! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Cool, huh? I will let you know when we decide to come out there.

Congrats on your red sheild (b00by, lol) Motorwife, I still have the swords, I figure I will get a diamond pretty soon though. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I want a pic elwen you can send it to me at my e-mail address, if you want too.. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

Hey satch, elrin & all of the gingerbread gang... how are you, my precious? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Elrin: I meant to ask you earlier? Do you live in a tiny farming type town too? People think that I sleep in a barn to keep the sheep warm or something like that <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

Wynken: Yeah! Another TORCer who’s seen Oregon. I’m getting warm fuzzies <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Hmm, I might want to get that checked. he he. Wow, you’ve been to more places here than I have and I’ve lived here my whole life. I’d love to see Klamath Falls and the Sea Lion caves someday. I’m pretty familiar with the Newport/ Lincoln City/ Florence area of the coast because its a short drive. I love to just skip over and watch the sunset with my sister. I’m really thankful I get to work outside and see the valley in its different seasons except right now because its SO cold. Nothing compared to some states but I’m a big wimp who likes to huddle by the wood stove. Eugene I’ve only seen a couple of times to go to this little clothes store called the Buffalo Exchange. It has cool vintage clothes for reasonable prices. Quite fun. You should defiantly let me know if you guys decided to head this way <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Oh, and my email is [E]midwiferobes47@hotmail.com[/E]

Elwen: What was Honk Kong like? Did you live on an army base or in housing in the city? Did you have to learn Chinese? Sorry for all the questions but it sounds really interesting <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I should lurk more, I just now found the Berlin letter. An army base? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> I honestly couldn't tell you if HK even HAS an army base! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Yep I lived in an apartment on Hong Kong island. It was absolutely amazing, I love Hong Kong. I grew up on an island in the Seattle area, but didn't often visit Seattle, so I was kind of off in the middle of nowhere, WA, so moving was a huge change. Think of HK as a Chinese New York, only a hundred times safer.

In the school I went to, you had to learn Chinese up to the 5th grade, then you could pick between Chinese, Spanish, or French. I hated Chinese, so after a year (I honestly don't know anything more in Chinese than thank you, bye, hi, you have a big head, you're stupid, and ***** <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>) I switched to French <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> I speak that much better <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

BTW, you're trying to make it to Boston? Depending on when it is I may try to make it. If I can get a car maybe I can drive up there, although I seriously doubt it. I saw the same exhibit in Wellington when it was there, so my parents don't want to go sit through it again, but it's pretty close so there's still a chance!
mullet yup i'm a hic. i don't live in a barn or sleep in one for that matter. just down the road is(bugle) cows. wonderful smelly cows(yum steak) i think the cows might over throw the humans since there seems to be more of them. its a conspiracy, we most arm ourselves with steak sauce.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Think of HK as a Chinese New York, only a hundred times safer.

Elwen: Why is it safer there? Do they have better police or is it just cultural? I know that its a very business focused city but not much else.
My mother begged me to take French but I took Spanish since we're becoming part of Mexico over here <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
The WETA show will be set up from August to October [approximately] at the Boston Museum of Science. Did you like it when you saw it? I really want to go but it’ll be quite a bit of work and I was curious if it’s worth it.

I decided I can afford to join TORC premiere as long as I cut back on eating out. I’m fiendishly excited about coming up with sig pics although this first ones pretty lame. I keep rediscovering how huge this site is. I was completely overwhelmed trying to read up on the links on TLE’s 2004 voting thread.
