Evenstar's Emporium - Ready for Locking!

Postby Evenstar_of_Imladris » Tue Apr 27, 2004 6:42 pm

Hello! Welcome to TORC! I’m Evenstar_of_Imladris (but you can just call me Eve or Imi ;) ) and I have been a member here for 3 years, and an adopter for 2. I’m 20 years old and from the great state of Michigan. I’m attending Western Michigan University where I was pursuing a degree in secondary English education with a minor in social sciences, but this upcoming fall I will be transferring to Spring Arbor University to study youth ministry. In my spare time I absolutely love to sing (singing is my life!), read, run my own skin care and cosmetics business, watch movies (I am a movie buff), hang out with my friends, and just have a good time! That’s pretty much me in a nutshell, but if you want to know anything else please feel free to ask. :)

I know that this site can be a bit overwhelming, but that’s what I’m here for! In this post you will find invaluable information about TORC (such as: TORC stands for TheOneRing.com, the old site ;) ) which I will provide through links and lists and all sorts of stuff!

Alright, let’s get to it! :D

If you need to contact me privately for any reason at all, feel free to e-mail me: beckela_squish@hotmail.com

A Comprehensive Introduction to this Board

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the MODS?

Comprehensive List of Abbreviations

If you have any technical problems while visiting the site, post them here (The One Ring Forum).

Now that you’ve gotten a brief overview of the site and its basic guidelines, let’s take a look at some specific forum guidelines:

Literature

Guidelines for the Books (Tolkien)

The Big List of the Best “Books” Threads

A Thread for Simple Questions Regarding Tolkien’s Works (Tolkien Virgin Forum)

Language Forum Guidelines

Guidelines, Links, and Useful Information (Virtual Tolkien Study Group)

Movies

The Movies (LotR) Forum - What you Need to Know

Guidelines for Fandom

Community

Tom’s House Guidelines

Guidelines and Rules for Role-Playing (Prancing Pony)

Guidelines and Rules for Role-Playing (Green Dragon Inn)

The above two threads are very important if you intend on role-playing!

Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, here is some information that I get asked for the most often from new posters:

Icons under your screen name and what they mean

- sword = 10 posts (you may have up to 4 at one time)
- diamond = 50 posts (at the most 1)
- red shield = 100 posts (you may have up to 4 at one time)
- green (Rohan) shield = 500 posts (at the most 1)
- black (Gondor) shield = 1000 posts (you may have up to 4 at one time)
- blue (mariner’s) shield = 5000 posts (at the most 1)
- The One Ring = 10,000 posts (unknown maximum)

The "Title" just below your Nickname indicates your ranking as follows:

Petitioner to the Council - 1 post
Citizen of Imladris - 21 posts
Shield Bearer - 101 posts
Rider of the Mark - 501 posts
Ranger of the North - 1,001 posts
Mariner - 5,001 posts
Ringbearer - 10,001 posts
!?!?!?!? 50,001

Okay! That was fun, wasn’t it? :)

Hello, Everyone.
Still a newbie-how is this TORC different from the "old TORC"?
And is anyone willing to do a little e-mail mentoring with me? I don't always have a lot of computer time available to me, and would really like to understand how to use this wonderful site!

Thanks

Well, to most newer folks this doesn't seem too different from the old TORC, but for us veterans it's like a brand new place :)

The board itself was completely upgraded. I'm not sure how to explain, but if someone more technically literate than I would care to jump in, that would be great :P

And you can go ahead and e-mail me with any of your questions and I would be happy to mentor you that way. My e-mail address is beckela_squish@hotmail.com.

Well, I'm not exactly a "veteran", but I still don't like the new board.

Oh, there are SOME advantages, I must admit, like the colours, the new smilies, and the quoted reply... but that's about it.

I have more gripes this "new, improved" TORC than I have grins.

Like....

I was eager to check out the member list, and find my own name in the list... but after 15 minutes of wading through just the A's in the list, I was sick of it.
And have you noticed the search doesn't work?
And how come there is only 20 posts per page?
Also, what happened to all the "settings"? I usually used to set my settings so that I could have a max of 50 posts per page - made life easier in big threads like this one.
And the "profiles", where are they?
What about out Alliances? What if I don't want to be in the House of Elwe anymore, and wish to change to House of Elrond or something? How can I do that?

I'm all for change, you know, and I understand why the changes were needed, but honestly.. did it have to be so drastic? Like I said in before, this "new" TORC just feels too commercialised. The old TORC was unique, and had that sense of "home".

*ahem*

Ok, enough ranting. What good will it do, anyway? I don't think we'll be getting the old TORC back, so I guess I might as well get used to this one...

*sigh*

Later days!

*heartily and readily repeats with and agrees with EVERYTHING LadyG said*

I agree and I agree. I Wanna know where the my settigns page went. I wanna change my sig, too, and it won't let me because it's not there (the place where you type in your siggy) Wah.

I'm getting used to the new TORC, but I don't like it. I think it's arse ugly.

But it's better than having TORC crashed anyday.   :(

I like some of the new smileys, though

:o

hehehehe

I've only been around for a wee bit over a month, but I miss the old TORC too. It really was more unique. This is just kinda...standardized. And I agree, Pippy, some of the new emoticons are really quite scary. LIke this one:  No mouth should move like that. Ever. Eep.

Pippy and Eo are right, some of the new emoticons are downright freaky. But Some are kinda cool, like   >-O :nono: and my favourite =:) is baaaccckkkk... YAY!!!

Evie, do you need our birthday dates again?
Mine's July 14th.

Imi! Didyou know that lady G's nickname for you is almost the same as my nickname for my sister? Probably pronounced the same too, except you say the E as a as in way but other wise it's Evi:D. (spelled with an accent over the e)

My birthday's February 19th, and Pippy's is July 6th:D

And yes! There is a point to this post!! Would starting a thread that in talk that has a survey and asking people to fill it out be appropriate? I need to do this for a religion assignment and I don't know enough people in real life that would actually answer the questions about prejudice. So that would be all right wouldn't it? I can see it now, the title: Survey on Prejudice (Also known as please fill it out so I can finish this agonizing assignment!)

And locked after the first post:P. Nearing a year on torc and I'm still afraid of starting threads

Go Imi! Good job redoing the first post!

I'll give you my birthday: November 26

AND my brother, Mumakil14's: March 14.

(He can be somewhat lazy, and is a slow typer. Slower than molasses in January. :D)

I'm scared of some of these new smilies. Especially this one:  It looks like some dead guy.

And then! The  , gumby-mouthed one. It looks like someone trying to smile after getting 4 shots of novacaine.

And why do we NEED a novacaine induced smilie?

Well, nobody said we needed a novacaine induced smilie, but it's always good to have around, especially when those m00biers or Manwe folks need to calm down a bit ;)

We don't need one...but it's good for right after going to the dentist, eh? ;)

However, I still think that it is scary beyond all belief. Happy emoticons should be happy, not scary. *hides from scary emoticon*

Edit: btw, my birthday is 24 April.

Is this where I can get adopted? Sounds like a good idea on my part! Will you kindly adopt me?
