LOL Drieske, yes, all those things should not be done in the car. DRIVE a car, leave the rest for later. :D

I called the road service and they came out and jumped me in about a 1/2 hour. So now I need to see if it held or like you said CR, the alternator might be out, which would be said indeed. So *crosses everything*

Rose, that is cold, you and CR are getting what we had for four straight days. It did finally let up, so that is something to look forward to.

Just hope you don't get the ice too badly, that is the hardest thing in the world to drive on for me. I will take the snow, but ice...GAH. Drive slow and safe.

basillllly one!! :D Hello on this Monday morning, who let you loose? ;) And cables are fine if there is someone else to "jump" you, if you don't have anyone out at 6:15 am, then no good on that. But I could probably handle the "self charger" thingie :P :D

Helllloooooooo the thread!!

Mica, hope the exam went well. ;)

Glad to hear your weather is nicer, rwhen. Wanna trade? :P:D And my very first thought was " maybe it's the alternator. If it's not charging the battery while you drive, the battery goes dead." I've had that experience my ownself. *nods*

drieske wrote:-31C Scribbles? Where ARE you?

Ah, -31C turned out to be nothing compared to this. I'm in Edmonton, AB. Nice eh? I can't wait for Wednesday, when -16C is going to feel warm and the 0C high for Friday will seem like summer. ;):D

Basil, someone here on TORC has that quote (about being wise and becoming a fool) in their sig area . . . :)

HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOO Scribbles!!

Woman!! That is REALLY cold. *passes over electric booties*

And NO thanks, I am done with that frigid air, but I am sorry that you have to have it about for this week. I sure hope it is NOT the battery, it didn't stall out on my way to work. :(

*runs out to try and start the car*

Edited:

So it is 5 hours since getting to work and the car started right up.

Mmmmm thank you! And I like to think of it as STUPID cold. What on earth was God thinking???!! Oh right. Things keep better in the cold. And severe cold for a week or more means less nassssssty wasps come summer.

I guess that means I'll live longer. But maybe just longer than the wasps . . . :P

Oooooooh, wasps! The original terrorists. They try to get into your house, or into your car, build nests right where you want to be, daring you to get close. I can't stand them, my precious.

We hates wasps too, precious. Bees, we loves them, yes we do, but wasps? We goes out of our way to kill the nasssssty, tricksey little rotters. With much fire if at all possible . . .

Well, I got home with no frostbite. Then I realized that I had to run out to get the ingredients for a curried vegetable dish I'll be needing for two different potlucks this week . . . Luckily, it was a fast trip so my car didn't freeze solid in the parking lot, LOL.

C'mon Wednesday!!!

Well, I nearly sent a blank card to someone - not even my name in it! Or a return address on the back (because it was to someone within the UK - I don't put return addresses on them most of the time). :D They would have been very curious as to who it was from! Good job I checked.

I did manage the return address, yes.

Ah, how the mighty have fallen! :P

I got an email this morning from Rob and the subject line said, "Don't Panic." My response was, of course, that I wasn't going to panic, I have my bathrobe and towel and I know the answer is 42.

I have no idea if he'll get it or not, but I'm pretty proud of myself. :D

LOL. I would have loved to see it again too, but I was bushed and went to bed early.

And thank everything holy that tonight appears to be the last of this unreasonable cold snap. Standing at the bus stop this evening in -24C weather (with just enough of a wind to make it doubly miserable) was about the last straw to break this camel's back. I was nearly cursing like a storm trooper by the time the bus showed up . . .

Apparently, we're supposed to see a daytime high tomorrow of -8C, and 0C by Thursday. Lord a-mighty, I sure like the sounds of that. Now to keep everything but my eyes crossed that it turns out to be truth, and not fiction, LOL.

basil wrote:Rose, I've never heard of "raking" the roof! "Raking" the yard, yes, but it does make sense doing that if you get the snow like you get around the Great Lakes.

Basillllllllllly dear,

One must rake the roof if you get a LOT of snow & if there is any freeze/thawing going on. If it stays super cold, no problem. But even on cold days if the sun is warm .. or if your attic is not well insulated & a lot of heat escapes, thawing takes place. Then the water runs down the roof & into the gutters.. but then night falls & it freezes solid in the gutters & the ice starts to back up on the roof into what is called an ice dam. When it gets high enough up on the roof, when it melts it gets into the attic & meltwater starts to come down the drywall in the house. It rots the drywall & makes it moldy. A real problem. :(

Here is a linkie to a video of someone using a roof rake. Well.. actually.. the video is not of a roof 'rake' but of a snow 'cutter'... it's what we have. Better than a rake. The video makes it look easy.. and sometimes it is.. but just where do you think all of that snow is falling?? You got it.. RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU!!! And if the snow is frozen, it can be really heavy!!!

Rose, that is just about the coolest thing evah . . . but you're right, unless you have the handle reeeeeeaaaly long and can stand back, you're gonna get buried, LOL.

I used to rake snow off the edge of our old house's roof, then just climb up and shovel the stuff off. We had a really low-slope roof on our old bungalow, so it was much easier than trying to rake it off from ground level.

Fortunately, this house doesn't have a big problem with snow. All the roof angles are pretty steep so not much stays up there. And then the wind just scours whatever's left off anyway. ;)

rwhen chummy? I suppose so. These are things are things that must be discussed, whether we take it further than friendship or not.

But...

I got to work this morning a little after 7:30, got myself unwrapped and had just walked over to the table beside the editor to pick up things that need typed in, when Rob walked in. There was a brief moment of confusion...I'm still not used to the clean-shaven look...then I know I turned red because he handed me a bouquet of flowers...right in front of the editor. Just about everyone was there, or were coming in. :) After he left eveyone's like, "He's your friend??? Yeah, right!" Embarrassed...and inordinately pleased.

BASILLY one! I sent you a card...my return address should be on it, but I can PM you if you like. :)
