It's 9:52 pm PST, and I'm taking a break from wrapping presents.. I'm staying up a bit late tonight to finish wrapping them and (hopefully) get a few pictures of the Christmas tree with all the presents under it. Tomorrow I have to work (blargh :P), then we're going to James's family's house for Christmas Eve. ;) :D

It is 12:15 on Christmas Morn

There was no angel with a horn
declaring that it's Christmas morn,
not drums, no fife, no strings, or flute,
the house is still, creation mute,
yet somehow wonder fills the air
as families in haste prepare
to dazzle childrens' bleary eyes
as they from slumber swiftly rise.
No star, alas, lights up the sky,
for some a floral scent wafts by,
for others warming winds caress
while others search for warmer dress.
We have stepped into Christmas day,
though dawn may seem quite far away,
yet here we are, twixt tale and myth,
on this December twenty-fifth.

Blessings,
Parm :)
I love the worldI am in...

It's 11:54 pm PST on Christmas Eve, and I'm home after spending it with James's family. I had to work today, though I did get off early, and got home around 1 pm. I finally finished wrapping all the presents (with Toni's help, of course ;)), then took some pictures of the tree with all of the presents under it, loaded everything into the car, and had a wonderful Christmas Eve with everyone. James and I have a few more gifts to exchange, then we're going to change into our Christmas pajamas, and go to bed. Tomorrow we'll (hopefully!) be going to see The Hobbit again, this time with his whole family, which will be a lot of fun. :D

I have to memorize my lines all of this break. I got Willy Wonka in our theater's next production( :Q ). And I have to practice the piano. I'm trying to learn River Flows in You by Yiruma, and it's going slowly.

Is it just me, or do the Japanese do pretty much EVERYTHING ten times better than America?

It's 2:15 pm PST on Christmas Day, and I've had a lazy day so far.. I'm still in my pajamas, actually. James and I didn't go to The Hobbit with his family, since they decided to go to the 10 am showing, and that was much too early for us (we wanted to sleep in ;)). I'm glad we saw it on the 21st, just the two of us. :D

Merry Christmas, everyone! :D

Re: What time is it for the FIFTH time?

Postby frodolives668 » Fri Dec 28, 2012 9:17 am

10:57

progress is going slowwwllllyyyyy. I've learned about the first twenty seconds of River Flows in You, and I've only learned a few scenes of the Willy Wonka script so far.

And you know how there were two versions of Willy Wonka? The Gene Wilder version is subtle. He's charming, but he has an edge, so you know he's a bit dangerous as well. He's very likeable, but you are still aware that you can't relax. The Johnny Depp version, produced by Tim Burton, plays it off more like a child stuck in a man's body due to father issues. He is neither subtle, nor charming, but the characture still has an enchanting sort of outlook on life. So it still sorta works.

THIS abomination of a script combined the lines of Gene Wilder, AND Johnny Depp with some elements from the book, so it came out to a mix of charm and catastrophe. It actually raises more questions than it does EXPLAIN anything, and the script doesn't know what it wants to be.

I'm not kidding. In the opening, Willy Wonka tries so hard to be elegant and likeable, and than asks Veruca Salt if she was a wart! He is totally charmed by Mrs. Teavee, but upon meeting her son, Mike, he goes off on...I don't even know. Read this:

"Mrs. Teavee: Here's our ticket Mr. Wonka.
Willy Wonka: Scrumptious. Oh, Mike, there is no telivision reception in the factory.
Mike: None?
Wonka: None whatsoever. (laughes maniacally) Chuck Bucket?
Grandpa Joe: It's Charlie, Mr Wonka. Here's our ticket..."

And on and on. If yuo want to be charming but edgy, do that. If you want to be all out crazy, do that. This guy came off as a tempermantal moron, who only cares about his business. He couldn't care less about the children, he knew exactly what would happen and planned it all out beforehand. I wouldn't mind it so much if he didn't try to be liked every other second. It doesn't work, and this adaptation was a terrible peice of writting.

BLEAHHH! :hair: I feel for ya dude! No fun not knowing how to interpret the role you're playing. Who 'adapted" this script anyway? Is it set in stone, or would they be agreeable to suggestions for changes?

In the end, maybe all you can do is play it the way YOU think it should be played.

Feel free to come here and vent. I can't change anything, but at least I can offer sympathy and empathy.

1:30 PM EST. Time for me to be off to Middle Earth again! :yippie:
