Oh dear... Leoba--I did not mean to be confusing <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> Sorry about that. Yes, I suppose we shall have to simply blend the two screennames together as one adopter. Been on as Ture lately as she is working on some projects.

Rho--glad you had fun. And thanks for the invite. I wish the Guild luck and a good turnout...glad you are enjoying running it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Hello darling family! Just a very quick note to say thank you all for your blessings about my apprentice bard acceptance. It's wonderful to feel the love and support. Last night I got home too late and exhausted from work to do anything but listen in on the family chatter for a few minutes. This morning I was going to spend some time catching up on my posting, but Sept 11 reflections consumed my thoughts and my muse was ever so silent. I did post something in the Scriptorium and it helped tremendously to have a place to put my thoughts to paper. It has been a day of bitter and sweet--remembering the bitter losses and the ones who bear those losses still, one year later, and yet the sweet comfort of the bravery and sacrifice and resolve of my fellow countrymen and of all people everywhere who hate terrorism and evil. I sent my daughter some flowers at work with a note reminding her how much I love her and am grateful to be in her life. Last Sept 11 I had to go see her at work and bring her flowers and just hug her in gratitude that she was not in New York. I have decided to start a tradition of sending her flowers each Sept 11, as a way to keeping something good out of all the pain.

Thank you all for all your sentiments that I have read in some of the threads here on the boards today. What a wonderful world we live in, and I thank God for the tremendous freedoms and blessings we of the free lands enjoy. And I have promised never to forget how fragile life can be, and at what cost our freedoms come. Thank you all again--it is such a joy to know that you are all out there. By this evening, I was feeling better, and ever so grateful that life goes on, and still is good.

Rho: fair shieldmaiden! Congratulations on your induction into the Mithril Knights! I can't wait to hear accounts of your adventures! And congratulations on being a new parent (your California thread), it couldn't happen to a nicer person!

Fair Lady Leoba: as usual the grace of your caring spirit and just your presence brings joy and comfort and peace. Thank you!

Tulkas: welcome to the family. Hope you like to be hugged and encouraged and listened to. Lots of that going on around here. Oh, and we have just the most delightful parties <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Eyriel: my mother died of cancer, too. In fact, it will be 4 years ago tomorrow, Sept 12. At the time I thought I would die of a broken heart. I still miss her terribly, as you do yours. The pain never completely goes away, but it gets more bearable (most of the time--sometimes still I let myself have a good cry about it). So we have a common bond of pain and loss, you and I. So tomorrow I will think of you and say a prayer, and if you ever want to just talk or cry about it, I would be glad to be a pillow. Sometimes it's just comforting to know someone else knows what that hole in your heart feels like. (((((Big hug and kiss on both cheeks and another big hug)))))

Good day or good night, my kindred spirits--those who bring great joy to my soul! May your days be full of creative, sympathetic teachers, error-free posts, considerate roommates, compliant children (yeah, right), tolerant dragon ladies, and the joy of knowing that you are loved and valued. You are, every one, just magnificent works of art. Thank you for sharing yourselves with others and with me!

Tomorrow is a brand new day--let the adventure begin!

Falathiel

Tulkas~ hello and welcome to the family!

Tinu and Eari~ for stopping by the new Guild.

Eyriel~ My thoughts and prayers are with you .

Fala~ I’ve been wondering where you have been, and now I understand. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> My prayers are with you during this difficult time too. As for my adventure with the Mithril Knights, well I have been accepted into the Guild, but I do not gain official membership status until I finish my training thread. Right now Elbren and I are riding off to Edoras to find more clues to solve the mystery. We (and the other Knights in Training) are trying to solve the Mystery of Isengard. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0>

Goodnight everyone, I’ll see you tomorrow...

Rho, it was a pleasure to chat to you too.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> And yes the more of the family we can get on there at once the better,<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I’ll try and look into your Californian Guild sometime soon - may I post to say ‘hi’ or would that be classed as ‘thread-crashing’? And good luck with the mithril knights - I’ll try and take a peak in there soon and see what you’re up to.

Sadi, good to hear such bounce and enthusiasm coming out of your little corner of the world. Hope the pictures turned out good.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Ture, blending has been done.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I picked up your IM (at work where I can’t reply). Hope the stress eases off soon… it’s not good for you. I’m hoping to get myself back into SB’s Challenge this week so maybe you can vent your frustration on poor old Culanir (but I’m out tonight so might not be I a fit state to RP when I get home<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>).

Fala, thank you for your kind words. Maybe if we all pray hard enough, our political leaders will see sense and think hard about how they can help to achieve long-term peace in this world.

Eyriel, I read your editorial piece yesterday evening and thought it was very good - light and easy yet engaging. I assume you mean American football though rather than ‘proper’ football?<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Dear family,

I already wanted to psot yesterday, but just didn't manage- I have 96 copies of vocabulary test to correct and I'm kind of exhausted.

How and where do you get this IM message? Do you need a yahoo account to use this? I'm too overworked to search on my own on the Web - it's hard every year to start back working after the summer break...

some messages for everybody:

T+T: <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Welcome to my adotive brother (?) tulkas!

eyriel, words don't come easy to me ot say what I felt for you, when I read your post. I loved your posts in the Bard Guild and I feel a bit as if I was your German teacher (including the Haribos), so I send you a big hug. I love my children very dearly (a secret to noone, I think) and if I couldn't live up until they're grown-up, it would be very hard to bear, but less than if I hadn't had any children at all, because they give me so much joy, and made so many moments of my life precious. I'm sure your mom felt alike about you.

Falathiel, thank you foryour kind words, and congratulations to your induction as a bard.

Rho, nice guild! And good luck with your mistery!

O.K I'll have to get out the red pencil....

Oh Sadi - always do your homework (severe teachers face!)

N-N, Sorry to hear that you are so overworked. Hope it eases up for you and your students listen to your wisdom and work hard. I just picked up your Buddies message and won’t be home until late so thought I’d reply here. That sounds absolutely fine.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> And to the best of my knowledge there won’t be any problems.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

To get yahoo IM, all you need is to get a yahoo ID and download the messenger programme. Click on this link: Yahoo Messenger and you should find all the information you need. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Speaking of working hard… the EDL keeps walking by my desk and I’m not doing a very good job of keeping work-related windows open. Guess I’d better get my nose to the grindstone for the rest of the afternoon…

Leoba~ I would love for you to stop by the California Guild. Everyone is welcome! Since you don’t actually live in California you would become an Honorary Member like Tinu, Eari, and Vana.

Nin~ <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> And do look into Yahoo IM. It’s much faster than the one here on TORC and if the are several of us online at the same time, we can all chat together in the same message box.

Has anyone here been to a TORC moot before? There has been a request for one in the California Guild and I am wanting to learn more about what happens at one.

Thanks Leoba...taking a break now for about an hour. More than I can spare, but I need the time off...

LOL about your nose to the grindstone. Sure... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Thanks for the combo.

N~N--<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Now we have similar names...N~N and T+T... Good luck on the grading. Wish I could be there right now--I'd help you grade them <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Agh! Everyone's getting Yahoo! I have all BUT yahoo and my comp is full. Not likely to get it, so I'll just continue to use TORC IM <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>.

**Space of former rant, now obsolete.** <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Feeling much better now...

Leoba, Sadi, N-N, and Fala-thanks for the comfort and prayers about my Mom. It's good to know. It'll be seven years this March. I can't believe it's already been that long!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0>
Fala, I will say a prayer for you and your family today. And if I do ever need a shoulder to cry on, I know you'll all be here! And of course, I'll be here for you too. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

What a depressing week this is turning out to be!! And tomorrows Friday the 13th!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0>
Although, today is Ian Holm's birthday - he's 71, I believe. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Yes Leoba, I mean American football. Although I get 'em mixed up sometimes too, since we talk about the "correct" <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> type of football all the time in German class. My teacher's a big fan. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Talk to you all soon!
-El.

Hail fair friends, sunshine of my heart and song of my imagination! I hope everyone is having or resting up to have a glorious Friday and weekend!

I won't be seeing you this weekend because my hubby and I are taking a holiday Friday through Sunday. We are going to an RV resort in Acton,up by Palmdale, where they have giant hobbit-trees (my pet name for these huge Cottonwoods there) and horses nearby to look at. I won't have internet access but I already warned hubby I might have to find a cyber cafe on Saturday. He was fine with that, even though I don't think he completely gets my fascination with TORC. But he likes it because it's helping me become a little more internet savvy and it helps move me toward my writing goals. He's happy I have finally found some kindred Tolkien spirits to share my passion with (takes the pressure off him, too!). I plan to use this weekend to get my character bio done, write a song or poem for the Birthday Bash next weekend, take at least 2 long walks in the moonlight, practice running in the woods like an elf, eat too much at my hubby's favorite restaurant, get a least 4 more stanzas of "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil" memorized, and get in some much-needed reading. Oh, did I say this was a holiday? Silly me.

I am so excited because I found out that someone is moving down to UC Irvine, which is just about 2 miles from me--a college student! how cool is that? I hope she'll want to get together maybe for lunch or a walk on the beach or better yet, LOTR MOVIE WATCHING! Sorry, I didn't mean to scream--I'm just a little excited.

Fair Lady Leoba: OK, time for some more newbie questions: What in the world does "moot" (as in TORC moot) mean? Is it an acronym? And what is this "thread-crashing"? I hope it's not where someone starts a thread and you find it interesting and decide to post your comments. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0> I know that for guilds and RPs you have to introduce yourself and/or request to join the thread conversation. But are you supposed to do that always? I like to read some of the language threads or Manwe threads and occasionally I add a post. Is that inappropriate? If you have to wait for permission to post sometimes the spontaneity of the moment has passed. I certainly don't want to be rude...Help, please!

Eyriel: congratulations on your 300th post! And I hope your weekend is sunny and fun!

Fair Lady Leoba (again): Oh! I so hope you will come be an honorary member of our California Guild! (I heard Rho invite you!) Your presence would add Oh! magic and grace to the already quite delightful group of people there now! Maybe someday I can be an honorary Englishman! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Also, I got my Yahoo IM set up (thanks to you and Rho for help) so I hope we can all have a chat together on line soon. Maybe we could plan something for during the Bard's Festival? I really should be paying someone to have this much fun!

Nienor: nice to see you back <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>. Wish I was closer so I could help you grade papers--I just love tests! (yes, I am a little strange) At my work I have to proofread just about everything that goes out the door, but I love it--it's like a game of "Where's Waldo" only with errors instead of Waldo. Hope your home and children settle into a more peaceful routine as everyone gets used to a new school year.

Ture, Vanan, Sadi: hello bright lights!

Rho: what can I say except that you would bless my socks off if I had some on. You are delightful!

Well, blessings to you all. Will pop my head in, in the morning before taking off. Sweet dreams and good morning and yummy good coffee and Friday joys of weekend freedom to you all!

Falathiel

Hello family! And hello Falathiel. Today I went to work, geo lab, then lunch (which surprises me that I got my lab done over an hour early) and then I went to my core class and handed in my concept analysis that I did in a half hour at 7:30 in the morning. Then I hung out with my friends and then went to a movie that was in complete french. I didn't understand hardly any of it but it hand english subtitles (Thank goodness!). It was called Amelie (sp??). It was great. A lot different than the kind of movies that I normally watch (LOTR, The Hobbit, Secret of N.I.M.H., Escaflowne, and more) but still really good. And I only had to pay $2 to see it. I love going to the UI theater!

~Vanan
<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Eyriel, congratulations on 300 fabulous bardly posts. I look forward to reading many more.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Ture, okay, so I’m none too hot at keeping my nose to the grindstone but all work and no play is dull, right? Planning a nice long TORC session tonight anyway. I was awake half the night thinking about roleplays (SB’s Challenge in particular you’ll be pleased to know) and have every intention of getting some serious writing done tonight (it didn’t happen yesterday only because I went to the pub instead.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>)

Vanan, What did you think of ‘Amelie’? Last time I met my university tutor (who is French) for lunch, she was urging me to see it. But as of yet I haven’t got around to taking a trip to the video store. You’ve just reminded me… so maybe I’ll treat myself this weekend (seeing as my only other plans are to sleep lots, to clean the flat and to clean the car).

Fala, your plans sound like the perfect holiday to me.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> What more could one ask for…. reading, memorising poems and walking in the moonlight. I hope you have a great time (and survive three days without the net<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>). Is that another TORCer who is moving 2 miles away from you? That would be so cool. But then Britain is so small in the grand scale of things it’s not too much trouble to meet up with anyone (we just have to get around to it.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>). Let me know your yahoo ID and I’ll add you to my list (or just message me: my ID is ‘leobavorima’)

The word ‘moot’ means ‘discussion’ and I think is used in LOTR for the gathering of Ents. To the best of my knowledge it’s a term adopted by the Tolkien society for their get-togethers and we British TORCers adopted it as well. Seems kind of appropriate.

‘Thread-crashing’, that’s just a term that came off the top of my head.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I meant, would it be rude of me to pop by a thread that has no direct relation to me and to which I doubt I have anything useful to add, just because I see some names I know in there and want to say ‘hi’. I was just being super-polite really.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> But certainly don’t worry about posting to add to discussions or posting in RP OOC threads and the like (I even know of one person who regularly reads an RP I’m in and from time to time posts in the OOC to say how much she’s enjoying it). So long as you post with courtesy and obey the ‘rules’ of the forum (which I know you do) you’ll be fine. Go with the flow and be spontaneous.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Rho, I will pop by your guild this evening then. I can’t promise regular attendance. I am one of those TORCers doing the ‘butter spread over too much bread’ thing - many interests and commitments you know.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> But I’ll pop by as and when I can.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

And back to the TORC Moot question again. Yes, I’ve been to a TORC Moot - in Oxford in July. What you do is entirely your choice. We met up in the Eagle & Child (Bird & Baby) for many drinks and lunch, then we wandered up to Tolkien’s grave and Berhael read Galadriel’s lament most beautifully and then we went back to the pub. So mostly drinking and talking. For the next one, we are getting together in Birmingham to celebrate Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday (next weekend<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>). It will involve much pubbing, a meal at Sunday lunchtime, a trip down to Sarehole where Tolkien spent 4 very formative years of his life and us all sleeping on Hashberry or ArPharazon’s living room floors. And in January we plan to meet up to see TTT all together. So it really depends on what you fancy doing - time to chat is the main thing.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Greetings Galador!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Talking of TORC Moots, have you thought about joining the rest of us at one?<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I thought you’d all want to know.. I’ve just head back that I’ve been approved to adopt, so we should be moving on the 15th.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I hope that the others of you who applied have heard back as well? Do let me know.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Galador, I know you’re not trying to avoid us - you mentioned in another thread I think about the uncertain nature of your shifts.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> We are planning on meeting in Manchester though in January so if you are around, even if only for an hour or so it would be great to see you - last minute decisions to come/not to come will not be a problem. I promise, I won’t go on about it again.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I’d love to see a picture (I’m really nosey<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>) Scan a photo to your computer (if you don’t have a digital image on there already) then just post it on a free page like ‘club photo’ or do what I do and have a yahoo email account which has its own photo album.
Congratulations on getting to 500 Galador. That’s a fine horsey shield you have.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I’m feeling so chilled out now I’m not quite sure how I’m going to cope with trying to work this afternoon. I just took a break and went down to sit in the park by the river. It’s so warm it feels almost like July. The sky is clear deep blue, the gold on the Houses of Parliament was twinkling in the sun and the grass was soft and springy under my back. So with the sun beating down I half closed my eyes and read through the RP posts I’d printed out (for SB’s Challenge) and dozed quietly. And then to finish off went and stood a few moment looking over the wall at the river; there’s such a sense of history emanating from the stones and the waters… it’s the perfect place to just slip away, mesmerised in the tide lapping.
It is indeed a glorious day today Leoba. Thanks for noticing my fine horse shield type thing. Don't us adoptees grow up fast must bring a little tear to your eye. Don't worry I'm not about to 'fly the nest' just yet. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Oh my goodness! Hubby wants to get on the road and I'm feeling the pressure, but I just had to pop my head in to say Hello and have a glorious weekend everybody! Sounds like the weather is beautiful all over the place! The sun is already shining brightly here and the leaves are dancing and the birds are chirruping. Oh happy day!

Fair Lady Leoba: sounds like a lovely little excursion you had this morning. Hope your muse was inspired--it sounds like she was from your description. Thanks for posting that--now I'm really in the mood to spend some time hanging out with the big trees and the ducks in the lake and the stars in a clear night sky! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Congratulations on your adoption application going through--as if there could be any doubt. I am so grateful and blessed to be one of your adoptees. (I know there are other wonderful adopters out there but I'm quite convinced you are the creme de la creme.) (not sure about the spelling there but no time to look it up <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>) And yes, the person moving close by is a TORCer (sorry, in my excitement I forgot to mention that). I met her in the new California Guild started by Rho. (Hooray for Rho!) It looks like we might get together once she moves down to university. Oh Boy! my very own TORCer college kid (well, you know what I mean). Thanks for answering all my questions. You are so cool about that--I think it's bringing some healing to my childhood memories of being told, "Be quiet, settle down, and don't ask so many questions all the time." Once again, thank you! Oh, and my Yahoo IM is falathielontorc. I've requested to add you to my friends list. Oh, this is all just way too much fun! (I know, no such thing)

Vanan: thanks for sharing the details of your days! LOL. I just love it! I've been planning to watch Amelie too. My daughter really liked it. Haven't done subtitles since "Life Is Beautiful" a few months ago. (What an incredible movie that was!) And discount admission is always a really good thing <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Galador: Hi! nice to meet you and congratulations on 500 posts! Hope so see you around!

Eyriel: congratulations (again) on 300 posts! (it bears repeating) **throws confetti in the air and turns up LOTR CD real loud--"Yaaaaaay!"

I better get back to packing and in the shower! I will miss you all and will be thinking happy thoughts about you this weekend! See you Sunday! Namarie...until our next meeting...

Falathiel

"There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil..." Gandalf to Frodo, PJ-LOTR

Very short,

Leoba - I received no answer for adoption. Maybe I won't be allowed... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0>

Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain or Amelie in short is a wonderful movie. If you can, go and see it...

Fala . it's crème de la crème but I fear that accents are complicated on an American keyboard.

eyriel . say hi to highly sympathic German teacher from a colleague, and if ever you need help, ask me!!!!

Nienor - you are so right, Amelie is my most favorite movie in all of history - after LOTR-FOTR, of course. I'm very glad you mentioned it.

Leoba, where are you from? I really enjoyed your description of the little place you slipped away to. I myself am melting away quite miserably in the American south and it feels terrible.

Off to work!

Just opened a bottle of wine, tucking into some dinner and watching the 2000th 'Top of the Pops' programme. I'm kind of miffed that they didn't play a Marc Bolan song, seeing as today is the 25th anniversary of his death. Never mind…. I'll just put the CD on and subject my neighbours to some very loud glam rock.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Now settling in for a very long evening on the boards.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

N-N, I've just emailed the relevant Mods to find out what's happening. Don't worry.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Fala, answering your multitude of questions is exactly what I'm here for. Well that and getting to know you and having fun.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I've just added you to my IM list - catch you on there when you get back. Have a great trip.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I saw 'Life is Beautiful' myself a few months back as well. It was a very powerful film. I'm no stranger to subtitles though - even in my DVD collection at home I have a copy of 'Les Visiteurs' which I absolutely love (and will be avoiding the American remake like the plague I hasten to add)

Hadara, I'm from Buckinghamshire in England but I work in London. Sorry to hear that US weather is causing you trouble.

Galador, I'm glad to know you won't be flying the nest just yet (in fact I hope you never feel the need to<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>). It's been a grand day indeed - I hope you had the chance to enjoy it.

Amelie is a really good movie. It was really funny a lot of the time. Kind of sad in a way but it's worth the trip to see it. I'm glad my friend from a French class took me with her.

Today was short. Oh, yesterday before I went and saw the movie, I got a call from our local paper (school paper really) and I found out that a thing I wrote got put in the paper for 9/11. I was shocked.

Well, I have 4 chapters of geology to read so I'd better get cracken.

Falathiel, I'm glad that you like hearing about my life. Lol. At least here people think it's funny or interesting <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

~Vanan
<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Hi, family!

I know I haven't been posting here much of late but it's good to be back.

Vanan, Eyriel and other student orphans- add me to the list of people who are trying to balance TORCing and homework. Homework has put up a gallant struggle so far but I think TORC is making a comeback!

And Eyriel and Galador, congratulations on your posting milestones. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Rho, congratulations on your induction to the Mithril Knights and nice going on starting up a California guild!

Fala, nice going on your Bardhood and have a great weekend.

Leoba, this may sound silly but I've always had an affinity for British place names... all those '-fords' and '-ingtons,' and of course '-shires.' <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Everyone, I hope you are well and happy. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Take care,
Ali

Just to let you guys know…. I had confirmation from InnocentEvil (and have forwarded the email on)…… we have all (that is myself, Tinu, Mat and N-N) been approved as adopters. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> So as of Sunday we'll be leaving this most beloved thread and starting afresh.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Vanan, well done on getting your piece published.

Aliana, it's good to see you back here.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> I like English place names too…. funnily enough. They tell you so much about a place and it's history. For example in Yorkshire, many of the place-names end in '-by' or '-thorpe' which are classic Norse words - an example of Viking settlement in the region.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
Fala-Thanks for the confetti! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

N-N-Thanks for offering to help me with my German. I might actually take you up on that soon; verb endings are hard to remember!

Aliana-LOL about the homework-I'm exactly the same! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Leoba-Congrats on being confirmed as an adopter!

And I just wanna say, reading all your posts has really cheered me up; I have been having an absolutely horrible day.
I found out one of my really good friend Jessie smokes; I'm scared to death for her, especially since my mom died of lung cancer. I'm totally shocked, and have no idea what to do.
Plus, Jessie's friend Tim (who's been supplying her with cigarettes) got hit by a car today. He'll be okay, but Jessie's still really upset.
I feel so bad for her, and have no idea what to do. Please keep her in your prayers, or at least in your thoughts.
And thanks just for being here; the whole TORC atmosphere has really lightened my mood!

I'm off to bed now-
Eyriel

Eyriel, I remember how I felt when I discovered that some of my closest friends had started smoking. This was when I was about 14. It hurt a lot and I was stunned that people I had hitherto thought were really intelligent sensible girls would walk blindly into something that they knew was addictive. Many of my family died of lung cancer and one of our family friends was suffering breast cancer at the time. Eventually I concluded that it wasn't something I could do anything about; independent minded young women will always go their own way and after a while I ceased to let it bother me.

All you can do is to remain a friend to Jessie. I hope her friend recovers okay and yes I'll keep them and you in my thoughts.

I'm glad the TORC atmosphere helped. There are some wonderful people on these boards with the ability to brighten up our lives so selflessly. I count myself very blessed to consider them as friends. Take care.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Hello all!!

Just poking my "Friend of the Orphanage" head in to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS!! to Leoba, Tinu, N-N and Mat, for being able to continue doing such a fabulous job here at TORC.

'Tis a wonderful family you are building here, and I just wanted to personally thank you for your efforts in making newcomers to TORC feel so welcome. Not to mention all the questions you folks answer and all the cool information you provide. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> I didn't realize that about Yorkshire names, hmmmmmm, now I want to see if there is something similiar with Northamptonshire names . . . <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Of course, I never had any doubts that you lot would be approved, nope, nary a one!

Right, tally ho, carry on, stiff upper lip and all that rot, onwards and upwards!

<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
