Pets are useful!

A female cat in heat is a really annoying creature. Fun to mess with her mind, though. :) Still, as soon as they're old enough, best to bundle them off and have it done. The health benefits alone are worth the cost. And a lot of organizations will help you with the cost too.

On to other things:

Had Okun to the vet yesterday. Got peed on again. Anyhow, won't know until later today how he's doing, but since 4 units is too much and 3 isn't enough, I think we'll probably be stuck with 3 1/2 units. I'm happy, he is doing so good, it's like having a new cat!

Iris, I'm glad Okun is doing so well. Here's to good vet reports! :)

Tarina, love your cat stories! :D

Mackie is as good as an alarm clock, almost. Well, once the first alarm has gone off, anyway; he's good at preventing me from going back to sleep! Once he knows there's someone awake on that bed, he hops up onto it with his favorite toy, a piece of gift-wrap cord, and demands to be played with. If hubby's awake, Mackie milk-treads his upper arm, who on earth knows why.

Time for a kinda funny cat story, with pics. :D

We've been rearranging the living room the past couple days, and one of the things that got moved is my mom's comp desk. It had a couple drawers in it, which we took out because the thing is a monster to move. Liri was exploring what damage we were doing to "her" territory, and the ever helpful Tuon was trying to play. So Liri decided to explore some place she had never been before.

Not too surprising though. This is that cat that will climb into open dresser drawers, empty soda boxes, and likes to sleep in bathroom sinks. :D

And I showed my mom the pics today when I visited her in the hospital. Her response: "I miss my baby." This from the woman who wasn't even sure if she wanted to let me get a cat!

:D Oh, I hear ya. I'm forever trying to keep them out of closets. When we pack for weekends or vacations, they get into the tubs or suitcases.

Well, we're back up to four units. :( I was going to argue, because last time he didn't do so well, but I decided to take the "wait and see" approach. *sigh* I'm thinking maybe what he actually needs is something like 3 3/4 units, which would be difficult to aim for since the needles don't mark anything but whole units. I guess we'll see how he does and then take it from there.

I was happy with the 3 1/2 units, but the doctor thinks he could do better. So I'm watching him closely. *sigh* At least the battle to give him a shot isn't as bad as it was. When we first started, and I was to give him the shot in a tent of skin on his neck, it was a real fight, but now that I do it in the loose skin by his legs it's not so bad...especially if he's stuffing his face at the time! Just like a man, eh?

Both cats got flea med yesterday. Both complained. :D

Boy Howdy do my cats hiss when the flea meds go on.
You'd think I was removing their fur one hair at a time.

Snow went in for her yearly exam and vacines yesterday.
She's old, that's all.
She was deadly with her front paws.
There was no way she was going to allow the vet to look in her mouth.
Took her and the vet tech to hold her down.

LOL...
Not bad for an old broad.

Love to the Kittehs.

 Calma! My previous cat was like that! She was the terror of the vet hospital. Once when she was in overnight, the attendant couldn't get her out of the cage to come home and had to fetch me to get her. When the cat recognized me, she climbed up my shoulder and slobbered all over my ear, just as she always did when I'd been away for a weekend. The attendant had me carry her like that through the lab so the others could see that there was actually somebody that cat liked! :D

Compared to her, our current boys are a couple of marshmallows. :)

Mackie has a new toy.

His favorite toy has been a length of giftwrap cord that surfaced when we were doing the first stages of digging out last fall; he found it and loved it, so I knotted the ends to keep it from unraveling and he's been hauling it around the house ever since (hubby used to call it his security blanket). Well, lately hubby's been noticing the cord in more than one place at once, or so it seemed, and so it proved true! It's a different color than the first one, so hubby knotted its ends and now there are officially two (though we're only leaving one at a time accessible!). We were trying to figure out how he could have found another one since we did such a thorough job during the February digout, then hubby remembered: we never swept under the bed...

Liquorice probably is pregnant. We don't know what we're going to do with the kittens though.

Got a call from the vet's office the other day. The insulin we've been using, Vetsulin, has doubled in price. So when I take Okun in for his check up later this month we'll discuss what other insulin options there are. Which will probably mean even MORE tests, fercryinoutloud.

This was in the Wichita paper last Saturday.

Feline-ality is a research-based program that fits adult cats into nine personality groups within three colors and tries to match them with potential adopters' desires and expectations for a pet.

There's a video at the site above

and a gallery ( cattery? ) here:

Very interesting, basil.
If it helps get kittehs into good homes, I'm all for it.

I could never work in a shelter.
I'd want to bring all of them home or spend my days and nights crying for them.

Ok, the guild is really close to the 2000 post limit.
Are there any objections to me starting a new one?
I don't mind if someone wants to take it over.
Just let me know before we run out of room.

Go ahead and start one, Calma. :)

A stray kitty showed up at our house last night. Mom and I broke several cardinal rules and fed it and gave it a place to sleep. However, I do believe my boyfriend is going to take him (yes, him, we're just old enough for that to be obvious). Prayers and well wishes that the arrangement works out...he needs to be an indoor kitty because Rob lives on a very busy road.

New post to add that kitty got a home...Rob took him (I figured he would!) His name is Pharaoh. Actually, I suggested Boy George because of the dark eye "makeup." That didn't go over. Rob's son suggested Franken-doodle (must be a 17 year old thing). I also tried out Set and Pyewacket, neither of which went over very well. So, Pharaoh it is. :)
