The crew of the TVM row to the small deserted island. Capt. Jack is left back on the Black Pearl, duct taped to the mast. As they step onto the island Tooks feels a rumble under her feet. And she could swear she saw a glimpse of a polar bear through the trees....

t0bY, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with flipping burgers.
I've been doing it for 35 years.
It's honest work and pays the bills.

Wenchie, the job is doing ok.
It's honest work and pays the bills.

You'll have to forgive me, I don't recognize this island.
I must be in my ignorant mode today.
Sorry.

BigMama sneaks over to stand close to Calma.

I get the feeling we may be the only ones who haven't ever been here before. Is there some significance to the polar bear? I think I might take my parrot and head back to the ship!

Well, we're not necessarily on THAT island. But every island has its secrets. ;)
Calma, we're talking about the island on LOST, if you watch ABC on Wednesday evenings.

Any job's a good job as long as its honest and pays the bills. :D

Speaking of jobs. I have one for toby. *hands him a shovel*

Start digging...right..... here.... *points to spot on island while perusing the map*

Time for a nap for me. Wenchie and Calma, keep an eye on toby for me. 8)

Just a note: I have absolutely no cultural knowledge of current television. We have cable at my house with a gazillion channels which my husband watches like an addict but I rarely watch anything unless it is some special I've heard about that I have a particular interest in. Most of the television references here go right over my head! It is most frustrating. Is there supposed to be an island somewhere in the Carribbean with a polar bear on it! Jezz--that's a new one on me. :P It does, however, remind me of a favorite segment of Dora the Explorer that my grandson watches. That is a culturally acute as I get.

(shrugs)

No wonder I didn't know the island.
I think LOST stinks.

ducks the onslaught of flying objects.

I watch tv, but it's mostly the Mariners and Sonics and ESPN.

Hey Calma. That's not true. I don't hang with boring, no life people! :D

Of course, the fact that I watch Dora the Explorer on a regular basis may say something about MY life! I also played six games of Dora Candyland today and lost five of them to a two year old! He also beat the socks off me at Memory! Sad but true. :P

Well, I don't watch to many of the "hit" shows on TV, I'm a PBS kind of gal usually, but LOST definitely has me and my whole family hooked. My son Jeremy is obsessed with trying to figure out the meaning of the numbers. I originally started watching it just to see if Dominick Monganhan could act....and it sucked me in. I like quirky shows, and this fits the bill. The polar bear was a nice touch... but I'm still confused about the black smoke monster thingy.

Big Mama....now you've got one up on me as I don't have cable in my house (we have a roof antenna ....which gets all the major channels fine so why pay more?...My kids think we live in the dark ages. :D ). So, while I have heard of Dora the Explorer, I have no idea what the show is about. Heck, I didn't know who sponge bob square pants was until recently.

Calma....I love your love of sports. And flipping hamburgers is fine work, I used to serve those hamburgers for years. (but I truly hope I never have to waitress again )

OK.....I'll sit here and watch Toby dig. Toby, aren't you a geology type major? If so, why don't you log the soils as you dig. *Hands toby a soil classification guide, and a geopick*

Well, I have graduated, so to speak, from flipping burgers to institutional cooking, but I still flip a few burgers at the old folks home. They love 'em!
:D
And Wenchie, I used to wait the tables, too, but I went back to the kitchen because of John Q Public and my deep desire to say to them...

"Do you want to eat it here or wear it home?"

But that's just me and you know what I am.
:D

I have often pondered that it would takes nerves of steel to be a waitress. You have to have a level of patience that I could simply not maintain.

I am feeling a desperate need for some chicken wings. I think I'll row back to the ship and rustle up some grub, or what ever you do for pirates. Aarg! :D

I completely know what you mean Calma....waitressing is tough. I did it all through high school/college, at all different kinds of restaurants and I loved it mostly, as I love people. Frankly, I made more at the diners, than at the posh fancy places. And the clientele was nicer too. But it was when I waitressed full time for a year that did me in....and it was then that I applied to grad school. :D My attitude at my last job was so bad, that my tips just plummetted. You can only take so much .....

Wings sound good Big Mama....but no blue cheese (gack!)

At least you know one thing, GW.
You'll never starve to death.

Food Service always needs workers.
If you ever find yourself in need of work, you'll be able to pick up some cash waiting tables until you can get back to your real work.

Chicken wings sound pretty darn good right about now.

Peers into the hole dug by toby the geographpy major...

You gotta dig faster toby. This could take all day.

Ah yes. The good ol' waitressing at the diner days. Once I got the hang of it I rather liked it. The first week was murder on the legs, if I recall correctly. :P
