The what happened on this date thread

Postby IamMoose » Thu Apr 06, 2006 5:12 am

This is similar to the 'If your post count was an historical date' thread, except going by post number rather than post count. The idea is, the first post on the thread - ie this one - represents the year 0 AD, and the next one the year one and then year two etc etc. Each poster must say what happened in the world on the date after the previous one, if that makes sense.

Okay, for 0 AD, Jesus of Nazareth is believed to have been born. Actually I gather that bible historicans now think that that date is a few years out and some people don't believe that Jesus existed at all, but still, this is a fairly significant date and the beginning of the modern calander so I will start with it!

Okay, now someone has to dig up a historical fact about AD 1 :D

Okay I promise I wouldn't normally double post but I've been idly researching since I started this thread for things that happened in the first part of the first century and I've realised how difficult it is to come up with info and I don't want to the thread to die for lack of it. So basically I wanted to tell people that the only place I've found that has any information at all on what was ongoing at this time is wiki .. hence, I'd do a search there for things rather than on google :)

ANyway, AD3, Saul of Tarsus, later St Paul, is born.

In AD 4, the emperor Augustus adopts Tiberius as his heir after all of his other choices are dead. (Seriously, the guy went through potential heirs like we go through tissues.)

AD20 20 AD- Tiberias (Hebrew טבריה, T'verya; Arabic طبرية, Ṭabariyyah) is a town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, Lower Galilee, Israel. It was named in honour of the emperor Tiberius.

Tiberias was built at about AD 20 by Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great on the site of the destroyed village of Rakkat, and it became the capital of his realm in Galilee.

During Herod's time, the Jews refused to settle there; the presence of a cemetery rendered the site ritually unclean. However, Antipas forcibly settled people there from rural Galilee in order to populate his new capital.

I shamelessly stole this answer from another person on a different forum I go to, where I have also started this game :)

AD 22

Emperor Claudius's third wife Valeria Messalina was born!

She was a crazy crazy lady. She married someone else while still married to Claudius as I remember, and he had no idea. He was a bit... blind. Like Augustus to his daughter Julia's indiscretions. I guess it's a Roman emperor thing. :P

I had one for the last one but will be shamelessly stealing from Wikipedia from here on out. :P

This is so educational! :P
