For Castanea_d. ...and Music's Wonder

I feel the rise and fall of word or sound
your fingers cause a song to laugh or weep,
with rhythms heaven throbs, my senses pound,
while you make notes that soar or plummet deep.
Oh, Master Brother, schooled in music's craft,
I stand in awe of grace that gifted you
to feel the keys and know how notes are staffed,
to make crescendoes thunder as you do.
Diapason your praise with hands and feet,
your holy dance upon the treddled bars,
It sweeps to heaven; there all is complete.
Now hear! The symphony of galaxies of stars.
Ah, Jesu! I am prostrate from such joy
from music's wonder You from us employ.

Bright blessings,
Parm :)
I love the worldI am in...

Thanks for the prayers, guys! She's due to get out of the hospital soon, though she still has to go to some rehab facility. She's doing pretty well so far, so I if you want to keep praying, I won't complain :) She is a tough lady...but 82.

Glad to hear it Mith. Still praying for her recovery.

Parm, you do have a gift for poetry there. You certianly do. I try, but fail more often then not. I think I need a larger vocabulary in general :P *takes out a pair of reading glasses and the Oxford English Dictionary*

Good to see you Cassi, nice to meet you. :)

Good news! My significant other is coming up on June 9th to visit for 2 weeks and meet the family and whatnot. Another praise for that I guess. And the fact that somebody gave me a PM. (I have my suspicions). God has been really blessing me lately, and I know I don't deserve it. Thank God that's not a prerequ. :D

Have a great day everyone

Is she a Lord of the Rings fan, Quill? For that matter, have you introduced her to TORC?

Get your priorities right, man!

Heh, now there enlise the tale.

She has watched Lord of the Rings. I don't know if she has completely read them or not, I don't think so. She is not so much a big fan, but that is more from not being exposed to them enough, rather than just not likeing it. But I'm working on it! She's a bookworm like I am. :bookworm:

I've already told her that she needs to join here and write with me, and she wants to. I think she is thinking more in the manner of eventuality though. Again, I'm working on her.

Don't worry, Iris, I have my priorities strait! ;)

Hey everyone. :)

Good to see all of you in here. *Waves to Mith, Parm, Nycks, Quill, and Iris.* I hope you all are well, and prayers for all of you. Mithluin, prayers for your grandmother too.

For those in the US, Monday is Memorial Day. Let us remember those who have died for our nation, but let us also remember the sacrifice our of Lord and Savior Jesus Yeshua Messiah Christ! Many men and women have died to give us freedom as a nation, but Jesus died to free us from sin, death, and hell. Oh what praise is due Him!

*Goes off singing*

Prayer Request Please pray for Gwen's dad. He failed a heart stress test and is going to have to have a heart catherization soon, so please keep him, his wife, Gwen and our family in your prayers there. He's been pastoring the same church for about 35 years. :D Great man of God!!

God bless you all,
Dan

Hi everyone. :) Sorry it's been such a long time, we had finals and big tests, district assessments... lots of stuff all at once. I'm finally done with this year though. :)

You all are in my prayers.

I'm going to the spine specialist for probably the last time. :happydance: I'm pretty excited about it. :)

Sigh.... yes, yes Nycks does live close to me... but not so close where I couldn't feasibly send and ICBM his way and not survive the blast myself... ok, just kidding. :P Nycks is a good guy. :D (disclaimer: these words may not be used against me in a court of law.)

Nim, congrats on that. That has to be a huge deal for you! And you're out for the year! double congrats!

Dan, I'll keep Gwen's dad in my prayers. Hopefully it does not become any worse. It can't be so easy to pastor a church as you would like with a doctor telling you, you need to keep things mellow. But then, God is faithful and true, he'll enable his servants to do those things he wants them to. :)

Nyck ~ thanks. :) I'm super excited. :D

Quill ~ Yes it is, I'm sick of being in the same exact possition for the past 2 years. Schools out too, thanks for reminding me. :happydance:

Nen ~ :D And I don't think we have any major plans....

I went to the 8:00pm showing on Thursday.... Which was before the opening. It was a special preview or something, but it was the entire movie. I loved it. :) I thought it was really great and even more funny than 2.
If they make a 4 I wouldn't be suprised, they deffinetly could, and that would be awesome if they did. :)

Much love!

Hey, EntMaiden! Good to see you still around!

And yes, but I live in a smaller town, so I guess it's not that surprising, not much else to do except go see a movie. ;)

I hope to see it soon!

EDIT: Oh, can you all pray for a close friend of the family? She just finished moving all of her stuff out of her house this weekend and got on the ferry out of here. She's lived here for ten years... and she had a LOT of stuff.

Though it is a miracle as well. Houses in Juneau during the spring don't sell well at all, and neither do cars, because everyone's trying to leave after the winter. Well, she put her house on the market last Sunday... someone came in Monday... made an offer by Wednesday and closed the deal today. AND her car sold after like three days of being for sale. It's a MASSIVE miracle and we're still all amazed.

Just hope that she continues to have a safe trip and all that.

Well, it is unusual for me to be home on the Lord's Day, but I am down with
some sort of 'bug'.
The doctors at the Kin-dai Hospital are concerned about what has happened to my
liver. I will be going back for a few more tests. They do not want me to 'worry', but
I have lived here long enough to recognize when doctors ask you come back for
more tests, something more than just the 'flu has hit.
Our little ones are doing well.
Arahn, as you may know, is student body president, and recently gave his
testimony at the youth gathering last Sunday.
Sunshine Girl volunteered to stay home to help me, postponing her church birthday part. I was very touched by this sacrifice. Two days ago, I got her a bouquet of
flowers for her special day.
Little Firefly is undergoing special therapy to help her left eye learn to track objects
that move in close to her. At present the right eye will move in, but the left will
not.
Lots of opportunities to trust the Lord in our little house on the plains.

Arahn also say Pirates 3. Much more impressed with it than with 2...or even 1 for
that matter.

Daddy Parm got to see Spiderman 3 with Arahn's gang. My coolness factor has
been raised. 8)

Hey, I'll be praying for you Parm...

That's another movie that I'd like to see and still haven't. Have to wait until it comes out of DVD, I don't think Spiderman 3's worth the money at a theater... now Pirates on the other hand...

Parm- You will be in my prayers.

Prayer Request

My grandpa is in the hospitol with pancreaitis or something of that nature. He was in the hospitol before and almost died from it (though, I just found this out today--no one tells me anything). He is in a lot of pain. Also for my grandma, I am sure this is hard on her.

And I still have Norman. Its getting frustrating--no one has called me, and I don't know what more I can do! At this rate Norman will never be sold :(

Prayers for Norman and Arwenelf, and her grandfather...

Prayers for Parm. And thank you for thinking of me with a poem. I am just a Servant, and any good music that happens through me is His doing. But you know that already.

Greetings to Quill; I am very glad to meet you. :):):):)

And Nyck too; I am not sure our paths have crossed before. I am very glad to meet you, too.

Two Alaskans in our midst: how cool!!!! I guess you guys are getting the “midnight sun” these days. I would like that part; I don't think I'd like the other side of it, say in January and February.

Prayers for Gwen's dad, and all who care for him – family, friends, the people of his congregation, doubtless many others.

Prayers for Nim, that the brace will soon be History. May you have a good summer, hopefully a little more restful than this spring has been :):):):):)

Laurelin, esteemed fellow Ent and Maker of Music, may you have a great summer! I enjoyed your ideas a couple weeks ago about how I spent the night in the church. The reality was much more prosaic; I have a little closet of an office in the basement off of one end of the choir room (in fact, it did used to be a closet :) I sometimes feel like Harry Potter living under the Dursley's staircase. :):):):) ). I brought my sleeping bag to church and slept on the office floor. But it is nice and cozy; in the wintertime I like to light a couple of candles next to my little icons: one of the Virgin and Child, and one of Jesus holding an open Book and pointing to the text.

Finally, here is a poem. I have been struggling with my vocation for some time, as most of you know. One day a few weeks ago, I was again wondering “Why am I here?” and I ran across this; I wrote it for the church newsletter two years ago, and had forgotten about it. In the context of when I found it, it certainly seemed like an Answer.

A good poem needs no explanation, but this is Not a Good Poem, so it does :):):):):). “Joseph” is Joseph Haydn, writing the overture to his oratorio “The Creation.” “Johann” is J. S. Bach. The bit about the Scottish soldiers is a true story that I heard in a sermon from the man who was there as the unit's chaplain. They spent the rest of the war in a POW camp.

the final cadence, loud, sustained -- strong final consonant ringing into the room...
We think that the song has ended.
But the song never ends.
What we have sung is a tiny part of the song.

The song has a beginning, though it has no end:
Fiat lux, sung by the Maker of Song into chaos.
(Oh Joseph, how you painted this moment in your song,
endless millions of years after, in your quiet workroom!)

the child with her rented quarter-sized violin and little bow,
“Twin-kle, twin-kle, lit-tle star...”
and then the variations, and after that more tunes...
she is part of the song.

the organist, long years of practice coursing through him,
beginning the Toccata in F of Bach...
he is another part of the song.
(Oh Johann! your song still echoes through feet and hands and voices!)

the young slave, thirteen years old, newly sold down to Alabama,
scrubbing pots in the kitchen,
murmuring “Sometimes I feel like a motherless child....
a long ways from home...”
she is an important part of the song.
She will be thronged with the cheers of angels and saints
when she finally leaves the stage.

the Youth Choir singers, all four of them
(the others all sick, or snowed in)
singing “On Christmas Night,”
the church full of people, silent,
attending on every sound...
they are part of the song
(Oh Angels who sang above the hilltop... we dare to join you!)

the handful of soldiers far from their homes in Scotland,
huddled in a bomb crater, cut off from Dunkirk and escape,
and one of them starts to sing
“The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want...”
and one by one the others join him -- they too are part of the song.
(Oh sweet singer David... What echoes your song has stirred!)

It seems to us that there are many songs, many singers.
There is but one song,
a counterpoint solemn, determined, jubilant,
or merry as a three-year old,
an improvised riff, child of its moment,
or carefully worked out,
each note tear-stained, wrestled into place.

It may be that the Maker is pleased with His song
(for in the end, all of it is His song,
though we have brought to it our soul’s outpourings
and made it more perhaps than He imagined in the beginning).

Please, Lord, may it be so.
In the wild swirl of sound that surrounds Your throne,
may we delight you by playing our few notes
with integrity, honesty, and love.

Blessings to all...

Cassi, a servant of the Lord

Actually, there's something to said about that much darkness. I like the "eternal" darkness in Alaska... I don't know why though... maybe because I like dusk a LOT.

I still have about two weeks before I can see Pirates 3, and that will be during the exam period. So none of you spoil it for me! :D Nim, your sig currently has nothing I haven't already heard, so that works out nicely. ;)

Sorry I don't have a more productive and useful post.

At church this week, the pastor went of on a tangent and ended up talking about Saving Private Ryan. Took a turn he wasn't expecting. But it was good, actually.

Oh, and, Hello Everybody.

Cassi...D
That poem was simply splendid.
At 11:12 p.m., with a fever that is just not going down,
upset stomach and all...
that was ministry!
Thank you, dear, dear saint!

Bright blessings,
Parm :)

P.S. I am 'not well ehydrated', according to doctors, so I need to increase my intake of daily water by another liter, which brings it to three per day.
Mrs. Parm agrees. Lots of water has not really hurt anyone, but too much of a good thing...that would hurt anyone.

It's been awhile since I've been in here. Life has kept me pretty busy lately.

Prayers for you all. :hug:s

Special :hug:s to Parm and Judy whom I've been thinking of a lot lately.

Nen: I hope things work out for you and Norman. If it is God's will for you to keep him, He will provide. :) If it's not, He will also have the perfect owner call.

White Toddler was sick yesterday. Stupid allergies. We were on our way to church, late too, and we had to pull over because she got sick. :( Dan took us to his mom's where we stayed. Once she got all the mucus out of her stomach she was fine. I felt so bad for her. I hate it when she's feeling bad. She didn't eat a lot yesterday either.

She's feeling much better today and has even been reading to A.J. :D It's just too cute.

Thanks for the prayers for my dad. He isn't doing very well with this at all. He's pretty scared. I know that the stress that has overwhelmed my family these past few years is the culprit. :( Mom's trying to keep him from doing too much, but he was in the garden this morning. He's got some bug on top of all this too. :( I'm trying not to worry, but worrying is my downfall.

Our neighbor's mom found out she has uterine cancer. It doesn't look good either. :( Please pray for them.

Dan and I know so many with cancer right now, even his aunt. This is such a devastating disease. :(

Our Vacation Bible School starts this Saturday. As always I'm a mix of nerves, excitement, and dread. We have such a grand opportunity to reach the lost during this week. We're having it earlier this year too which there is a mix of emotions over this at our church. I know God will take care of everything. :)

I know I haven't listed all I want to say. I have to go and tend to A.J. He's like his momma, not very patient. ;)

Everyone here is always in my prayers. You mean so much to our family. We love you very much. It's good to have such a good family here like you. :D

    from the Dan Clan
