Yowza. We passed the 2000 mark quickly. Must be holby's fault. ;)

Old Man River would be a cool song to sing as we float along the canal.

All together now......

Ol' man river,
Dat ol' man river
He mus'know sumpin'
But don't say nuthin',
He jes'keeps rollin'
He keeps on rollin' along
.

PS: Good job, Wenchie, double posting at the very end of the TVM thread.

Show tunes?

Well, I'm not sure I know any....

OH...

*Grease is the word...*

Hmmm, sorry, all I could think of.

Best see about getting the pirates over to the new TVM.

*opens the side door and hollers....

"Ok, ya scurvy lot.... The Rum's in the hold!"

*screams like a little girl and dodges the stampede of pirates*

Hey, new digs...cool. I did think of a show tune to get us into the swing of the new home for the TVM...

From Annie Get Your Gun...

There's no business like show business
If you tell me it's so
Traveling through the country is so thrilling
Standing out in front on opening nights
Smiling as you watch the benches filling
And see your billing up there in lights

There's no people like show people
They smile when they are low
Even with a turkey that you know will fold
You may be stranded out in the cold
Still you wouldn't trade it for a sack o' gold
Let's go on with the show
Let's go on with the show!
The show!

And so, on with the show...

:D

Ugh!
I hate breaking in new places.
Especially in the middle of a trip. :P
What will Tooks' head explode if there are 2002 posts or something. :P

rwhen I know I don't get around as well as I use to, but I don't hobble as of yet.
It isn't hobly---->holby
K ? :)

Well I'm not sure in which direction we are heading through the canal (and I highly doubt the navigator does either), but in case we are heading toward the Pacific here is a song from South Pacific...

Sailors, Seabees and Marines:
We got sunlight on the sand,
We got moonlight on the sea,
We got mangoes and bananas
You can pick right off the tree,
We got volleyball and ping-pong
And a lot of dandy games!
What ain't we got?
We ain't got dames!

We get packages from home,
We get movies, we get shows,
We get speeches from our skipper
And advice from Tokyo Rose,
We get letters doused with perfume
We get dizzy from the smell!
What don't we get?
You know darn well!

We have nothin' to put on a clean white suit for
What we need is what there ain't no substitute for...

There is nothin' like a dame,
Nothin' in the world,
There is nothin' you can name
That is anythin' like a dame!

We feel restless, we feel blue,
We feel lonely and in grief,
We feel ev'ry kind of feelin',
But the feelin' of relief
We feel hungry as the wolf felt
When he met Red Hiding-hood
What don't we feel?
We don't feel good!

Lots of things in life are beautiful, but brother,
There is one particular thing that is nothin' whatsoever
In any way, shape or form like any other.

There is nothin' like a dame,
Nothin' in the world,
There is nothin' you can name
That is anythin' like a dame!

Nothin' else was built the same,
Nothin' in the world
As the soft and wavy frame
Like the silhouette of a dame!

There is absolutely nothin' like a frame of a dame.

So suppose that dame and bride
Are completely free from flaws,
Or as faithful as a bird dog,
Or as kind as Santa Claus,
It's a waste of time to worry
Over things that they have not,
We're thankful for the things they got!

There is nothin' you can name
That is anythin' like a dame!

There are no books like a dame,
And nothin' looks like a dame.
There are no drinks like a dame,
And nothin' thinks like a dame,
Nothin' acts like a dame,
Or attracts like a dame.
There ain't a thing that's wrong with any man here
That can't be cured by pullin' him near
A girly, womanly, female, feminine dame!

One thousand pardons I beg of thee Sir Holby, twas a mis-step of not previewing my post, to catch the dreaded error. I certainly know better. *hangs head in appropriate hang dog style, droopy ears and all*

But nothing says sorry like a good song:

From "Chicago" - All That Jazz

All that Jazz

Come on babe, why don’t we paint the town?
And all that jazz
I’m gonna rouge my knees and roll my stockings down
And all that jazz
Start the car, I know a whoopee spot
Where the gin is cold, but the piano’s hot
It’s just a noisy hall where there’s a nightly brawl
And all... that... jazz

Skidoo
And all that jazz
Hotcha...Whoopee
And all that jazz

Slick your hair, and wear your buckle shoes
And all that jazz
I hear that Father Dipp is gonna blow the blues
And all that jazz
Hold on hun, we’re gonna bunny hug
I bought some aspirin, down at United Drug
In case you shake apart, and want a brand new start
To do... that... jazz

Find a flask, we’re playing fast and loose
And all that jazz
Right up here is where I store the juice
And all that jazz
Come on babe, we’re gonna brush the sky
I betcha lucky Lindy
Never flew so high
Cause in the stratosphere
How could he lend an ear
To all... that... jazz?

Oh, you’re gonna see your sheba shimmy shake
And all that jazz
Oh, she’s gonna shimmy till her garters break
And all that jazz
Show her where to park her girdle
Oh, her mother’s blood’ll curdle *
Did she hear, her baby's queer*
For all... that... jazz!

No, I’m no one’s wife
But, oh I love my life
And all... that... jazz!!

*serves the cabana boy a drink of his choice*

Better?

For some reason I feel compelled to sing a selection of A Mighty Wind.....

Oh a mighty winds a blowin’, it’s kickin’ up the sand,
It’s blowin’ out a message to every woman, child and man
Yes a mighty winds a blowin’, cross the land and cross the sea,
It’s blowin’ peace and freedom, it’s blowin’ equality.

Oh my! I most humbly apologize for bringing show tunes into a fine thread. The kids truly didn't like waking up to "OKLAHOMA!", but that just made it more fun....mwhahahahahahah. I think the fact that two of them had friends over might have upset them. 8) But those kids know me well and say I'm weirder than their mom (which is saying a lot!).

Don't worry Holby....your not a windbag...just a bag. 8)

OK....the tree dude came today, and started the major trim. He soon came down from the bucket and asked if we could talk. Turns out there really is no saving this huge tree, and all he would be doing by trimming it is putting a bandaide on it, and then it would probably die next year. All his men agreed, and I know he was right. We discussed the disease it has, the insects infesting it, etc. He basically said he didn't want to waste our money on the trim, which is pricey, only to come out next year to cut it down for good. :( It was such a huge beautiful tree.....but I know he's right. The cost to cut this monster down is huge too....but it would be huge either way, and he is saving us money in the long run. We've shopped this around all summer and know he's the right guy to do it. I'm sad.

So, our beautiful maple, that turned such gorgeous colors in the fall, will come down next week. My husband is on the front steps right now, looking at it, he's so bummed. I feel like we are mourning a friend. I love tree's.
:(

But we will have wood for the woodstove for five years! One little positive.

Wench, no need to apologize for the show tunes. We've done far worse in the TVM. 8)

Too bad about the big tree. I like trees. A lot. :(
You got to plant another one!!!

Well....I'm sleepy. And in keeping with the show tune theme, I guess I should sing... (okay, I already know some of you don't like The Sound of Music, but tough crunchies).......

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.

I like trees too, and I miss so many of them.
About 15 years ago or so, we had a hurricane blow through here and it wiped out a slew of trees.

There has been some development as well, and the empty lots have been cleared of trees.

And for some reason, my next door neighbor decided to chop down an old large apple tree.
That thing had the greatest blossoms in the spring, and it hosted a number of birds.

All in all about half of the trees remain in my little neck of the woods.
Isn't so easy to replace 75' trees either. :cry2:

Won't you go home, Tooks lady, won't you go home
You've moaned the whole night long
You do the cookin', honey, you pay the rent
I know I done you wrong

Awww, thanks guys. Yeah, those big trees are hard to replace....this was a very old tree. Sadly, I can't replace it with a maple, as the same disease will get it. It's vascular wilt and it has really done a number on many of the maples in the area...I just didn't think it would get ours.

My daughter wants us to plant a smoke tree. She loves the silly things. Won't get much bigger than 15 feet, tops, but we may do it for her. The whole front yard will look so different. Ugghh. Such a silly thing to be upset about. All I have to do is look out back and I have tons of 100' plus trees to look at, silly to complain. But, still a bit sad.

Oh Tooks....not that song. :D

How about a little Lawrence Welk?

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you
Here's a wish and prayer that every dream comes true
And though it's always sweet sorrow to part
I know you'll always remain in my heart

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you
Here's a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true
And now 'til we meet again

Adios, au revior, auf weidersehen.....Good Night!

sooooooooooooo, are we still posting here or is there a new thread thingy for Panama Tooks and her gang of crazy followers?

Just got back from my mid week skiing holiday. It was nice weather. Snow was a bit on the heavy side so I had to work harder to get down the hill. where's the powder when I want it? So I tried to teach my dad but he wasn't really good at it. He is 72 so I didn't expect miracles. I did however break my boots, so I need new ones. They were supposed to last longer but apparently they didn't have enough UV stuff in them and parts snapped on about my 4th run. Luckily dad has about the same sized feet so I used him skis and boots. Spent the 2nd day visiting the relatives. (dad's cousins) and then headed out to Bateman's Bay and the Mogo zoo where they have 12 white lions. Got back about 2pm and have done some washing and cleaned up a bit.

so what's been happening here besides show tunes?

NO WAY!!!

You wake your kids up to songs from OKLAHOMA!? If you tell me the song you sing is "Oh What a Beautiful Morning", I'm gonna bust. I've been singing that song to wake up my kids for years! They hate it and love it at the same time. I guess this is just another wierd synchronicity between the GoodSam family and the GamgeeWench/Mr.Bumpy families.

I'm sorry to hear your beautiful maple tree has to be cut down. I grew up in Wyoming where trees are sparse and require extreme TLC to get growing, so the idea of cutting down a tree is a total shocker. I guess it's not such a big deal in a densly wooded place, though.

Regarding show tunes:

I once worked for a boss who was a really good boss and generally good guy, but he hated musicals. One day just before a staff meeting he was explaining to several of us who showed up early how musicals really got on his nerves because people don't just break out in song in real life. Of course, I could resist breaking out in a hearty tune to disprove his point. After a short pause, he said,

"Correction: NORMAL people don't just break out in song in real life."

It was one of the best comebacks I've ever witnessed!

I'm long gone to work before my kids wake up, so I miss out on any opportunities to bug the bejeeeesus out of them in the morning.

I tend to make up for it at other times of the day though.

Like when I have to pick them up from somewhere, and there is a crowd of their friends hanging around.
Like at an exclusive country club where they caddy.
Like when there is a crowd of other caddies and golfers.
Like when I have Twisted Sister blasing on the radio while I sing along.

They turn the most marvellous shade of crimson.

*ahem*

Here is holby's theme song....

The seven deadly virtues, those ghastly little traps
Oh no, my liege, they were not meant for me
Those seven deadly virtues were made for other chaps
Who love a life of failure and ennui
Take courage-now there's a sport
An invitation to the state of rigor mort
And purity-a noble yen
And very restful every now and then

I find humility means to be hurt
It's not the earth the meek inherit, it's the dirt
Honesty is fatal, it should be taboo
Diligence-a fate I would hate
If charity means giving, I give it to you
And fidelity is only for your mate
You'll never find a virtue unstatusing my quo or making my Beelzebubble burst

Let others take the high road, I will take the low
I cannot wait to rush in where angels fear to go
With all those seven deadly virtues free and happy little me has not been cursed

:roflmbo:

hey all!

I didn't break anything but the boots. Was not that much fun having to carry the skis and stocks back down the hill, but at least I wasn't too far from the bottom. The hire guy said boots should last much longer than the 8 years I've had mine. He said it was a lack of the UV stuff. They had some smudges of white on them when I got them out before leaving. So he must be right.

I don't ski like greased lightning anymore. I prefer to stay in one piece and concerntrate on style a bit more now. Arms are a bit sore from ploing but they are weak so it was to be expected.

3 days til new job. Have 3 more days to rest, relax and try not to fret about it too much. It's a public holiday here in Sydney today as APEC is in town and GWB and other presidents are now here. So it was easier for security peeps to give us the day off and be out of the city.

have no tunes in my head right now so I won't mangle anything today...

Drive-by update:

- home computer is still in shop, morons say the monitor is behaving perfectly fine. Of course, all they've done is turn the stupid thing on and leave it at the windows login screen.
- morons at computer hospital suggested re-formatting my hard drive. I'm sure they heard the sword clearing the sheath over the phone, withdrew this suggestion right pronto.
- current status is that they're going to let a movie run overnight, to see if they can stress the monitor.

And the upshot of all this? I just know I'll bring the whole shebang home, plug it in, get 15 pages of a word document entered but not saved and the monitor will black out and freeze my system again. Murder Most Monitor will definitely be crossing my mind at that point.

Solution? I'm going to buy a new monitor anyway and to the hot place with this nonsense. The old one can serve as a spare.

*sigh* And yes, in the meantime I'm stuck lugging home the laptop if I want to get anything done in the evenings. Oh, and the hubby informed me that there's a screw in the left front tire of my car. That's two. I dread to even think what number three is gonna be . . .

I would like to take a moment to warn each and everyone of you of an impending doom....

Ok, so maybe it's not that dreadful, but I got you attention, eh?
Today I went to work at my normal time. (get up at 5 leave at 6 get to work at 6:15) I got home at 6:30 pm...
My supervisor's mom was coughing up blood, so naturally, she didn't come in. Our third cook was scheduled to work as a residential aide this afternoon and do you think anyone would come in to cover her shift for a few hours.... No.
So it was me who took up the sword and led the way into the breech of a double shift.

So what's so dreadful about all that, you might ask...
I'm doing all that on 4 hours sleep.
I'm here to tell y'all...

DON'T DO A DOUBLE SHIFT ON ONLY FOUR HOURS SLEEP!!!!

It ain't fun, folks.
I'm real close to heading off to the land of nod.

*tries to remember is there were any lullaby's in Peter Pan...

Calma....hope you got a good nights sleep. I hate functioning on little sleep. I used to sleep so well, years ago, but now I wake at all hours. Eck.

Scribbles....hope your monitor situation works out ok....and your tire situation. And hope the third isn't a bad one. :) But maybe trouble doesn't come in three's this time.

NL!!!! Sorry your ski broke lady, but hope it was a good time anyway. Good to have you back. I hear Sydney is a zoo right now, hope you are avoiding all the traffic.

Well, today I meet with the big boss man at the company, to discuss the state of the nation at my office. It's almost like this calm little office has had an earthquake, and things are still settling. In the panic of several people leaving....I've been handed too much to do, and I need to tell the boss man I can't do it all. (or won't). He's a reasonable man, but he won't like my solution.....and he won't have a choice, I think. The client is driving this one, and the client is a big one for our office. I just have to use my powers of persuasion and sell it as a win/win, which is actually one thing I'm somewhat good at doing. So this should be interesting. Wish me luck.

And Calma.... yea....been there...done that. Not no more.

And in honor of these 2 wonderful troopers, and the fact that it's Friday AND payday........

mee mee meee meeeeeee

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

:hihi:

eta: Scribbles, did they check the video card in your computer? I had one go bad on my work computer once.

I'm sort of awake....
Slept like a log, thanks for the blanket, Scribbles. :D

GW... Luck.

Today the cable company is supposed to come out to replace our cable. For the last couple of months we have been having problems with the tv suddenly pixelating then correcting itself and behaving for a couple of days. (it also takes out the Internet) Well, Wednesday it just went haywire. Earlier in the day, my babyman called the company and they said they'd be out on Sunday. ( Cable guy? On Sunday?) Well, when the picture just froze on his expensive HD tv, well he got on the horn and gave them the riot act. Two hours later, the guy was here and put a "House Amp" on our line. (and my little kitty was attacking him, btw. soooo sweet :D) Because we have HD tv's it has been taking more juice than our original cable can take.

The man said there he had been several of the same complaints along the street. My question is... If there have been similar complaints why was he going to make us wait until Sunday to come out and fix it? I just don't know about people sometimes.

Anyway, my babyman will be home to take care of things and hopefully I'll have my tv in working order again. (meaning I can watch the Mariners loose big time.:x)

Whooooohooooo.....I am good! Sold! :) The boss man agreed and is frankly just grateful that anybody is willing to take this project to the end. Of course, now I must figure out the logistics of working with a person in New Zealand to get this report written, but we will work it out. I think me and the IT dude are going to become good buddies. Of course, this doesn't change the present work load, just the future one, but at least I'm thinking ahead.

Calma....hope it all works out and that the mariners win.

Tooks.... :D One of my all time favorite songs.

And......I forgot to wave to Goodsam :hihi: Yes, indeed. That song has been sung! :D We are a strange pair, eh?

Waves to all Tookies..... and the lurking humans. Post lurking humans, post.

Hey !!
That use to be my avatar on Elmtree's old board.

Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies

Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain

For we’ve received orders to sail to New Bedford

Nantucket to the Vinyard is just a few leagues

CHORUS
We’ll rant and we’ll roar like true Yankee sailors

We’ll rant and we’ll rave across the salt sea

Till we strike soundings in the harbor of New Bedford

1 Nantucket to home is just a few leagues

2 Great Point to home is just a few leagues

3 the Vinyard to home is just a few leagues

4 Woods Hole to home is just a few leagues

5 West Island to home is just a few leagues

We hove our ship to with the wind at the sou’west boys

We hove our ship to for to take soundings clear

In fifty five fathoms with a fine sandy bottom

We filled main tops’l up channel did steer CHORUS

The first land we made was a place called Nantucket

Martha’s Vinyard Woods Hole then down Buzzards Bay

We sailed then by Marion Mattapoisett and Fairhaven

Then bore straight away for New Bedford hooray…..CHORUS

Now the Captain called out for our grand ship to anchor

We clewed up our tops’ls stuck out tacks and sheets

We stood by our stoppers, we brailed in our spankers

And anchored ahead of the noblest of fleets…..CHORUS

Let every man here drink up his full bumper

Let every man here drink up his full bowl

And let us be jolly and drown melancholy

And drink a health to each jovial and true hearted soul…..CHORUS
