Sorry about the chicken Wenchie. I saw the new Star Trek movie for the first time yesterday. Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed it. I always thought of myself as a fantasy person, with an occasional Star Wars movie. It was fun to see Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana. (LotR and PotC)

GamgeeWench- Sorry to hear about your chicken.

Obligatory photo of the day; I've not been able to catch any birds off guard lately, but I did find this little guy on a wall today:

"...Their aim in war with Germany is nothing more, nothing less than extermination of Hitlerism... There is absolutely no justification for this kind of war. The ideology of Hitlerism, just like any other ideological system, can be accepted or rejected, this is a matter of political views. Sorry about the chicken Wenchie!

Well...I'm reaping what I've sown. As in, I've been slacking in the slush reading department, and tomorrow is the deadline for submission entries. *sigh*

Huzzah, kitchen shift is practically over. The young lady had thought very well what she wants to serve to her guests, but not so well how to make it all... And, I made an ex tempore visit to my parents to get some more cups and saucers and trays and such. But, we've survived the day - hopefully we'll survive tomorrow as well.

Nice lizard, Storyteller! :)

Sorry about your chicken, Wenchie. :(

Too bad the Trek stars have never gotten into my corner of the world, and I haven't been able to travel to any big fan event across the pond. Some of you have managed to meet quite a lot of them! 8)

*staggers in and flops on the couch with a crumpled sigh...*

Boy Howdy what a day...
Lunch was Turkey Pot Pie. In itself not a difficult dish to make.
But there was a heck of a lot side work that needed to be done.
Then, as I was putting together the pot pie, I get a buzz over the intercom from the receptionist saying one of the resident's daughter and five other people are having lunch with the resident.

Beg pardon?
Do they know it's an hour and a half before serving time?
Sheesh, Give me a break...
Man a little more notice, if you don't mind.

Well, I always make more than needed anyway, so ok, I go back to cooking. Then I have to make the different diets, plate up the cake for dessert, the salad is waiting and so are the dishes...

Seemed like everytime I thought I was done, there was something else that needed done. Man, I didn't think I'd ever get the meal out on time.

Then as I'm serving the wife of a resident who is visiting decides she wants to eat with her husband....

*Aaaarrrrggghhhh!!!!!!111oneone*

I made it through lunch with one serving to spare...
Now I'm so wound up, I find it hard to sit still.
I feel like a hyper-active five year old.

I need food...

Later.

*gratefully takes the Mexican platter and sighs in contentment.*
I love Mexican food. You'd think after 17 years of cooking it I would have a different opinion, but I don't... :D

I don't have days like that often and am I ever glad I don't. I think I'd have an ulcer big time. I'm just thankful it happened on a Friday not a Monday.

Wenchie, my condolences on the loss of Beard Face.

rowan, good luck with the party and congrats to your daughter for graduating.

StoryTeller, cool lizard. I don't mind lizards.

Dubs, how's the submission reading going? Your eyes cross yet? (j/k)

:hihi: everyone!

So, the sun is shining and apparently everyone's out on the beach. All parents are incapable of keeping an eye on their children and we've had so many calls regarding missing children and missing parents!

I've also found out that a colleague who's off ill has come into contact with someone who's been in contact with someone who's got swine flu. (Did you follow that? :D) Oh joy! So we've all got to look out for flu symptoms. Which means I'm going to wonder about every muscle ache now! Even though I imagine the chances of it being passed on that far are pretty slim.

I'm sorry for your chicken loss, GW. :(

Calma...your dp messed me up!! I can't get to the bottom of the page to read all the posts. I can only see them when I hit REPLY.

How weird is that???? :D:D:D:D

Too cool. 8)

heliona...yea, don't worry too much about the flu. A coworker was in Mexico when the whole thing first started, and he came back perfectly fine (and stayed that way).

Scribbles...don't make us come up there and kidnap you. We'll have to bring along the starship captains, and well...., you know what that'll mean.....

The swine flu isn't any worse than the "regular" flu...it's just "new." If you're already healthy, you'll just feel miserable for a while, if you even get it.

Hundreds of people die of the "regular" flu each year...and it barely gets a mention in the news.

Calma: And you survived sanity intact? You're good. :)

Ach, I'm not too worried about it, really. (Actually, I think he was in contact with someone's who's swine flu, so I was one level of contact out!) But we haven't seen him since Tuesday morning. He popped into work this morning to say that he didn't feel well and was going home. Then later today we were called to be informed about the swine flu. So I figure if we don't get symptoms by next Tuesday, we'll be fine! :D

I think I've only ever had the flu once, myself. I felt awful for two days (really bad - it takes a lot for me to stay in bed for two days!) and then was fine. I think my immune system is pretty good. As far as I can make out, though, they (the authorities/health services) don't seem to be particularly worried about people who are more than once removed from someone showing symptoms, so I doubt we have much to worry about. :)

Tooks, I wonder why you can't see the thread properly. :? I'm on an ancient Internet Explorer at work that only works for some websites, and it works fine for me. :)

Scribbles, ah, a bean bag! I'd love one of those at the moment. My back's sore from how I've been sitting at work, and I want to collapse too! :D

Yay. I survived. And, after having done half of the foods for today, I bow to Calma even deeper than before - after all, she does it every workday.

Despite the tight schedule, everything went fine. 8) And now, I'm sitting here with a glass of red wine (Macedonian Merlot - I think Tyg would like to be here to share it with me, and I would love her to be here :D ). The weather was perfect, warm and sunny, so we could practically have a garden party, and all the food turned out to be good. We had ordered vegetable pastries, jam filled pastries, and almond and dark chocolate cookies; I made sandwich cakes - loaves of brown bread were sliced in three layers, filled with vegetarian sandwich spread and egg free mayonnaise, topped with the mayonnaise, and decorated with tomato, cucumber, and red grapes - and the daughter made a chocolate cake with melon filling and artichoke and pasta salad. The guests liked everything as well, but there are plenty of leftovers for us for next week.

Heliona, don't worry too much about the flu - for most of those who have caught it, it hasn't been any worse than any normal flu. Hope nobody in your surroundings catches it, though.
