Gwen - ehh, the sun is being skittish. It's out right now but this morning (& for much of today, so far) it's been pretty durned cloudy. No rain for once, but not so warm & sunny as it very well should be in May! :P

Ahh, Rowan that sounds like such a great time! Let us know how it goes :)

Anyway, happy Friday, PCE-ers

Yes, that was meant to be "hug back." :)

And I'm also here at the moment...and really tired. I have to go home, change clothes and return to town for work for a few hours. Ugh.

Ewwww, Iris. Why the change of clothes?

Rowan-- Oooooooh, LOTR symphony! I saw it (w/Luthy, actually) back in 2004; it was awesome! Have a great time!

Pictures as soon as the dress is done! It's looking good so far--I managed to put in an invisible zipper without dying! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAA!! *coughcough* And I got my Distant Worlds Symphony CD today, so I've been playing it while sewing; yay!

Only a few hours left, yes rwhen? You can do it! Go go, post post! :D

Less than TWO hours left in my day. Sorry your day is split like that Iris.

Sil???? Did you get your glasses? An invisible zipper, that is quite the accomplishment. I have done it...but with like a flap to cover it. Did you have overlapping seams on both sides? Or where like the seams just touch over the zipper? Well done. :D

Oh and hey, I just have to say this. SQUIDDY post to the FALLEN thread. I am breathless in joy and happiness. Dizzy really. Any who might remember our Mighty Squid. Please welcome her back on the FALLEN.

Oh.

Well, I didn't post with her a whole lot, which is why I didn't know the gender, but I'll be sure to say hi when I see her. :)

Sil: I was at my aunt's memorial service and was in a dress and very uncomfortable shoes for...far too long. I refuse to wear that get up to work. :)

Well, they obviously don't care about the health factor because, I assume, they've been/are going through public school, which (in my experience) goes out of it's way to shove every health factor down your throat. Therefore, they must have started smoking to look "cool", which says something about their either their intelligence or ability to withstand peer pressure. Your best bet, then, is to insult their intelligence. It's fun for you and helpful to them! 8)

I remember Squiddy...but I don't think we ever talked. Hurray for the return of another rusty oldbie! :horse:

Lewie, in my experience, they know all the reasons they shouldn't. The problem is, they're so addicted to the additives that it's very hard to quit. (I have a very close friend and a coworker who are heavy smokers). They might take offense if you keep insisting in any way that they quit. I would just be supportive and, if they bring it up, say, "I want to help you if you really want to." But don't push it.

They probably know about the risks of lung cancer and heart disease. So tell them to quit, and if they find it too difficult, give them nicotine gum and tell them to quit being a baby.

Happy Birthday Lewie.

For advise on quitting. You are askin' the wrong lady here. But when people talk to me about it, if they are respectful... something like "Have you ever thought about quitting smoking?" to broach the subject would be good. If they reply, yes, I have thought about it, but I chose to smoke. Then the only other recourse is, "I am sure you know the risks and I am not your conscience, but if you ever want help, please let me know." And that is it. Unless someone is smoking in your space/face, then it is totally okay to ask them to step outside and not to smoke around you.

Happy Monday to everyone on the PCE. Quiet weekend for me. Now a new work week. *sigh*

It's very hard to persuade someone else to stop smoking, because the motivation has to come from the person him/herself. Practically all you can do is to politely ask them if they've ever tried to quit, because sure they know what an unhealthy habit it is, and offer your support if they decide to try, just like Rwhen said above.

Well, the long weekend is over :( and another work week started :pull: Is it Friday yet?

Was it here we were discussing dumb questions tourists ask? I found this on snopes:

Grand Canyon National Park:

* Was this man-made?

* Do you light it up at night?

* I bought tickets for the elevator to the bottom — where is it?

* Is the mule train air conditioned?

* So where are the faces of the presidents?

Everglades National Park:

* Are the alligators real?

* Are the baby alligators for sale?

* Where are all the rides?

* What time does the two o'clock bus leave?

Denali National Park (Alaska):

* What time do you feed the bears?

* Can you show me where the yeti lives?

* How often do you mow the tundra?

* How much does Mount McKinley weigh?

Mesa Verde National Park:

* Did people build this, or did Indians?

* Why did they build the ruins so close to the road?

* Do you know of any undiscovered ruins?

* Why did the Indians decide to live in Colorado?

Carlsbad Caverns National Park:

* How much of the cave is underground?

* So what's in the unexplored part of the cave?

* Does it ever rain in here?

* How many ping-pong balls would it take to fill this up?

* So what is this — just a hole in the ground?

Yosemite National Park:

* Where are the cages for the animals?

* What time do you turn on Yosemite Falls?

Yellowstone National Park:

* Does Old Faithful erupt at night?

* How do you turn it on?

* When does the guy who turns it on get to sleep?

* We had no trouble finding the park entrances, but where are the exits?

 Iris! I love the one about the mule train! And this...

How many ping-pong balls would it take to fill this up?

...sounds like something I might ask, just to be silly. :D Or perhaps, "Where's the pirate treasure?"

:happydance: Happy Birthday, Lewie!! :happydance: Do something exciting after your psych final! (And good luck on it, incidentally!)

Afraid I've got no new advice on the smoking issue. I knew a girl who took a pack of her mom's cigarettes and cut them all in half. It sorta backfired, because her mom just got mad and made her buy a new pack. :P Along those lines, if it's a person with kids, you might ask him/her if s/he's considered the effect that smoking is having on his/her kids, medically and behaviourally.

Happy Monday, everyone!! I have a toasted peanut butter sandwich for lunch, and I am exciiiiteeddd because it's the first peanut butter sandwich I've had in ages!
