Man/Woman of January - Please read first post!

Postby Ugluk » Sat Jan 01, 2005 4:35 pm

Well - another year down the drain. Gone, disappeared, vanished, we can never get it back. While some people look forward to the New Year as a new beginning, a fresh start, others glumly look back at what a colossial mess the previous year was. Fortunately, I don't do that.....

Man/Woman of January

Rules:

1) You can only vote once a day ****
2) You can't vote for the same person two days in a row ***
3) You must state why you voted for the person
4) Person must be Lord of the Rings/Tolkien related
5) Votes must be in bold
6) You can't vote for Faramir because he won last month

*** This means you may not vote for the same person consecutively. If you vote for Frodo Monday and do not vote at all Tuesday, than you cannot vote for Frodo on Wednesday.
**** This applies to whatever time zone you are in. Even if the TORC time works out so according to it you're posting within the same day, it doesn't matter. But don't abuse your authority.

Due to popular request, this is the list of the previous winners. As each month passes, we will add the next winner to it:

June '03 Haldir
July '03 Orophin
August '03 Legolas
September '03 Frodo
October '03 Sam
November '03 Beren
December '03 Faramir
January '04 Pippin
February '04 Faramir
March '04 Eowyn
April '04 Aragorn
May '04 Boromir
June '04 Eomer
July '04 Faramir
August '04 Theodred
September '04 Faramir
October '04 Merry
November '04 Legolas
December '04 Faramir

Several people have been asking that I do a all-the-months count-up and announce the Man of the Year. Unfortunately, just recently all of the old threads that were on this forum were deleted. So, if you would like, based on what I remember from the past year, I can announce the Man of the Year, or somebody could reveal where the old threads are hiding.....

And the first vote of the New Year goes to Frodo - overworked, underfed, overdraught, and undervoted-for.

I vote for Sam, the faithful, longsuffering hobbit that he is.

Thanks for starting a new thread, Ugluk!

Thanks, Ugluk! The old threads are in "Fandom Archives", all the way at the bottom of the forum list.

Today's vote goes to Túrin, because he's Man of January even if I'm the only one who knows it. ;)

Thanks, PoI. I have a feeling the Elf is going to ruin my best efforts nonetheless. ;)

Hm. Today I think I'll vote for....Gandalf because I have the LOTR tear-away calendar and it's the Fellowship today, but he's leading! I would have voted for the whole Fellowship, but I don't think I'm allowed to do that.

Bloomgirl, I have that calendar too. Seems a lot of people do. It's wonderful.:) Something about the Fellowship on their journey just really pulls at my heart; I don't know why.

I vote for Gandalf too for the same reason.:)

Well, folks, after an exhausting couple of hours tallying up all the votes that have been cast for the past 12 months, we have a surprising winner. Well, perhaps not *too* surprising, I mentioned a while back that I thought I knew who the winner would be, and I proved to be correct in that educated guess.

Well, enough blathering....the 2004 Man of the Year is.....

LEGOLAS!

*dodges grapefruit thrown by the Faramafia*

Here are the totals for the top 10 vote-getters for the past 12 months:

Legolas with 898
Faramir with 879
Boromir with 735
Theodred with 508
Eomer with 508
Aragorn with 415
Eowyn with 374
Merry with 362
Pippin with 340
Frodo with 240

In case you missed it, here is my explanation for why Legolas beat Faramir by just nineteen votes. Faramir won 4 times, and Legolas only won once. This meant that for 4 entire months Faramir didn't receive a single vote. So for average, he wins, averaging 146 votes for each month that he could recieve them. Legolas averaged only 81 votes per month that he could recieve them, since he was unallowed for just one month.

Savvy?

Hmmm. I think we can say that Legolas won on a technicality and that Faamir was a victim of his own success.....if Faramir won four times and Legolas once, the only reason Faramir didn't win Man of the Year was because he was ineligible for four months! A victory by default for the undeniably gorgeous elf then, because four titles to one says it all really. :) In fact, if Faramir was ineligible for four months, and Legolas ineligible for only one, I think it's a moral victory for the Faz because he still polled only 19 votes less than Legolas despite being ineligible a lot more. So there. :P

There are some of course who would say that Man of the Year should be based on titles, ;) but congratulations to the elf anyway, and also thanks to Ugluk and Anu for all their work.

I'm voting Gandalf because I didn't realise he has never won.
