They gave honorary doctorates to the *Wiggles*??

*mind boggles*

Hopefully David got some attention somewhere!! Maybe we need to call and lean on the University a little! "Hey, dudes, something's missing from your website!"

I've heard from Angela, my on-the-spot contact in Sydney. David has been playing hard to get and the award ceremony has been postponed.
I'm a little disappointed in him, but if the "out of the country" involves a worthwhile project, I will forgive. Now, He-e-e-e-r's Angela!

************************

Sadly sadly, no news. Spoke at great length again to the Vice Chancellor's
secretary t'other day and she says he is not in the country at the moment.
It may happen in Melbourne. She had had the run around with agents and such
and was getting nowhere fast. I again volunteered to take over that role.
Then entered another personal assistant who said she wasn't keen on David
after his failure to commit to the heroine in Seachange. Left Sigrid
Thornton hanging, she felt. Not keen on men who wouldn't commit. But, says
I, he committed to Eowyn though...surely that counts. Much laughter. V-C's
sec again said did I want his autograph - but I said I felt that I needed to
help him on with his academic gown, smooth it down like. Catch him in case
he falls - that kind of thing.

Tell the gals that I am on the case, am anxious to please and to help in any
way I can and to get my picture taken up close and personal and will pass on
any titbit I can find.

BTW, just read an article about Hugo Weaving who talks about the film
"Russian Doll" (2001) with David Wenham. Has a picture of them both in tux
- David wearing glasses and a yellow rose buttonhole. Hugo says "That's
(the picture) me and Daisy. He hated me for getting him involved in that
film. I was nominally a producer but did nothing except ring him a few
times and say "Come, on you'll love it!" And he didn't. He hated it. He
and the director didn't see eye to eye. But it is a lovely film."

The "300" production blog http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/ has been updated with some information on the process of creating the backgrounds for the blue screen action shots. Not terribly interesting unless you care about the techical process, and no DW :(

I've been trying to determine how much Australian sound is in Faramir's voice, especially in the end of TTT when he releases Frodo, Sam and Gollum, saying, "gardeners must be ... of high honor in your land" or something like that.

Sounds slightly Aussie.

And this very subtle flavor of Australian accent, sexy in itself, always in a constant struggle by the more contrived American accent... this mixture... is very, very appealing.

Anyway.

Greetings, Fair and Hilarious Ladies:
[performs a somewhat wobbly curtsy in all pertinent directions]
As a newbie so wet behind the ears my epaulettes would be soaked
through if I wore any, I wish to begin by expressing to all of you my
heartfelt thanks. I have been lurking for months, reading through an
office connection that I dared not presume to use for actual membership,
and now at last I can thank you, thank you all! from the bottom of my
bookandmovie heart! for preventing me from wasting away. You have
fed my Faramir fetish, you have educated me regarding Mr. Wenham,
you have made me laugh. You're the top.
And now, a moment I've all been waiting for:

I thank you some more for the welcome(s).

As a token of my gratitude, may I contribute belatedly to the proposed Faramusical? The suggested "Ithilien" number, slightly borrowed from West Side Story, got stuck in my head earlier, with the following results:

Dramatis personae: Rangers--Faramir, Mablung, Damrod, Anborn, and Madrid (who has a Hispanic accent); quintet of peculiarly balletic Orcs

CHORUS
Rangers: I like to be in Ithilien
Rangers live free in Ithilien
Life is a thrill in Ithilien
Orcs: If you can kill in Ithilien!

VERSE
Faramir: Though I do not love the sharp sword--
Orcs: Would you like serving the Dark Lord?
Faramir: For Gondor I will defy death.
Orcs: If you can handle the Black Breath!

CHORUS
Rangers: We can live large in Ithilien
Orcs: Mumakil charge in Ithilien
Rangers: Spies can't get through in Ithilien--
Mablung (sniffing): Who's making stew in Ithilien?

VERSE
Faramir: Time off from Daddy is so nice.
Orcs: Step out at dawn and you're shot twice! (Madrid, hit, keels over)
Rangers: Our secret quarters are so cool--
Damrod: Who's that weird guy in our spa pool?

(orchestral interlude accompanies playful fish-slapping dance that follows and degenerates into the big Gollum-whupping finale)

RakshaTheDemon wrote:What have y'all been up to since last I visited, anyhow?

Ohh, nothing much....perfecting cold fusion, inventing a perpetual motion machine, turning lead into gold...just little diversions to while away our free time. How about you, Raksha?

Actually, I got an idea for a new fanfic this morning. It's going to be called "The Stewardess of Gondor": the touching saga of a flight attendant's struggle to hold off the ravenous, barbaric passengers aboard Quenya Airlines Flight 777 (nonstop from Minas Tirith to Mirkwood) while resisting the evil lure of the "Sky Mall" catalogue.

"If there is need to hand out earphones and lemon-soaked towels, let me go in her stead."

Sw 8) 8)  n for Faramir, who everybody would love to see demonstrating the oxygen mask and the little blow-up life vest thing (c'mon, admit it  )

Ahh, yes, definitely in the right place. And what a stark raving unusual feeling that is.

I'd be delighted to hear more about "The Stewardess of Gondor." I had to proof an entire handbook for flight attendants once (pauses as a shadow seems to pass over her face)--the manipulation of Movie One and Movie Two alone seems to me to qualify them for either heroism or madness. Let's not even think about the beverage cart.

What first caught my eye about Faramir, you ask, make_it_stop? Well might you ask. Could it have been his bookishness, or his nobility in repressing it to do his duty? (Some of us have been known to get into trouble for our failure to put down the book and take up the cold steel vacuum cleaner.) Could it have been his reluctance to do violence? His humility? His willingness to love, or his way with words? Perhaps every single thing about the man?

I worried at first when I read that one David Wenham had been cast to play my favorite character, and imdb yielded a picture of some light-haired chap in an exceedingly stripey shirt giving a thumbs up. I stopped worrying about 5 seconds into his appearance on the screen.

Swooon for Flight Attendant Faramir, recently seen using his seat cushion as a flotation device after the fall of the bridge

Belated Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates. I ate too much.

Remember a while back there was talk about some movie Romulus something or other and there was talk that David would be in it? Well, SM reported to me that it is a go but with no David. Eric Bana will play the lead (PoI this should interest you) and Marton Csokas (spelling, SM?) will be the friend. I'm sure Bana will be good but that would have been great for David. :(

Swoon for Faramir, Stewardess of Gondor, who can direct me to an exit anytime..... :)

Welcome, Pen Gwyn. You already fit in well here. Thanks for combining two of my favorite things, LOTR and WSS. "Ithilien" was hysterical, especially the creature swimming in the spa pool :o .

Too bad about "Romulus" but after all, Eric Bana is a considerably better known actor than David Wenham. It will be interesting to see how his performance in '300' will affect Dave's career. I wish we didn't have to wait the better part of a year to find out.

According to IMDB.com. Fred Schepisi, the noted Australian director, has
managed to get funding to film a movie based on the novel "The Last Man, about five Australian special forces men caught behind enemy lines in the Viet Nam war.

There was a rumor that Schepisi wanted DW for one of the roles, so perhaps that explains DWs being hard to get hold of/out of the country.
Just guessng, though, as IMDB lists no cast members.
