Nearly every month there are several warring "factions", each trying to get their candidate a victory. Some people vote for said candidate, some people vote for whoever they feel like. And considering that outside of Faramir, no one has dominated the voting (and the races have generally been quite tight), there's plenty of reason to vote. No one "decides" who is going to win ahead of time, and even if they do, most of the time the person doesn't even win, so it makes little difference.

Beren, because, for whatever reason, Tolkien thought a lot of him, nearly as much as he thought of Faramir

The vote for Bill the Pony was rigged. Bribery and influence-peddling was rife on that one, Face it, when a creature with big brown eyes and long eyelashes can offer pony rides, who's gonna resist?

It is a matter of winning people to your cause. The most votes any single poster can cast are about 15 per month. The winner usually has 60 votes (or more), so you would need four people to vote consistently for your 'candidate' to win. There are lots of ways to drum up support - I have no problem going to other random threads, posting a link to this thread, and saying "vote for Maedhros!" I might only get one or two votes that way, but it still counts for something :).

I've been declaring every month this fall Maedhros' month, but not until this month did anyone besides Aurelin decide to support me consistently. And before I supported her, it was just her and Doni voting for him.

And as I keep telling you, all you have to do is win the Fazguls to your cause, and it's easy sailing. You cannot get Fatty elected all by yourself, though - you need to convince other people to vote for him, too.

Maedhros - because the Union of Maedhros was so ambitious it might have worked...if it weren't for some treachery and delays.

Maedhros because a good victory is one where he gets more than Faramir has ever gotten.

More than....more than Faramir ever had?

Faramir had 61 votes in December....
September, he had 84.
July, 69.
March, 53.
December '05 garnered 80 votes for the Steward's second son.
September, 119
July, 103
May, 93 (Maedhros got 24 votes that month, too, by the way)
March, 103
December '04 marked a record 223 votes for Denethor's Heir!
September, 187
July, circa 150
February, ??? (can't find the thread)
December '03 marked the first time that Faramir won (of course, it was also the first time that a man from the 3rd Age won...) with 84 votes. Eowyn came in second that month.

Now that I look at it, Faramir has won every December since voting began! :o

Somehow, I don't think Maedhros is going to come anywhere close....well, maybe he can beat the March '06 total ;).

I meant topping Faramir's top vote total within a month record, but I doubt we'll beat 223 -- not enough people post here to manage that. :(

Of course not! Elves have perfect complexions. And perfect hair :D

Finrod, because he was the noblest of the Noldor, ruler of the greatest Kingdom, and Friend of Man.

And, he looks like an angsty teenager ;)

Ok, now THAT's a good reason to vote for Gil-galad...and Ugluk's sig, which is my second favorite LOTR poem after "All that is gold does not glitter..."

Finrod. Because I can't vote for Maedhros, and that commission Mith had Jenny Dolfen do of him is GORGEOUS.

(I wish I had had enough money to get her to do a commission when she still took them... her artwork is amazing. She's probably my favorite Tolkien artist, and her non-Tolkien stuff is amazing also).

Obviously, I'm a big fan too, Luthy ;)

Today's vote goes to Maedhros, because he survived the attack of Morgoth and Ungoliant on Formenos

Maedhros witnesses the death of Curufin, who looked just like his father Fëanor....so maybe it was not unlike witnessing the death of his grandfather Finwë.

You all make perfect sense. SO maybe it isn't completely rigged. I just want people to vote for Fatty and nobody seems to respond to my plea that he deserves to get a higher score. Either way, last month i got him one vote, this month will hopefully get him a second place. (if Ugluk doesn't sneak up behind him and take his second place.

My vote for today goes to Eru, Because without him the would be no middle-earth. If anyone deserves it more than Fatty it would be Eru himself.

He at least doesn't look like a pouty teenager ;)
