SPOILER The Lord of the Rings Teaser

Postby Guest » Fri Mar 02, 2001 1:00 am

New Line Cinema has released the first official poster for the upcoming Lord of the Rings films via the official German LOTR site. It's quite the intense study of Frodo, don't you think? And it definitely conveys the importance of the Ring... What do you think of this poster? Head on over to the Messageboard or leave your comments below!

One Poster to rule them all...

Thanks to Cirdan at Der Herr der Ringe for the email alerting us!
UPDATE: I just received an email from New Line mentioning that this poster will be in theaters nationwide this weekend. So head on out to your local cineplex and check it out!

Hard to judge...

Postby sk0766 » Fri Mar 02, 2001 2:09 pm

It's a good image, very dark and mysterious, but will it draw in people who don't know the story? It's hard to put myself in their shoes since I've read LOTR so many times! Seems like New Line is definitely trying to make people think "Hmm... I wonder what the the deal is with that ring?" rather than simply showing flashy swords or gore, though, which is definitely a good sign of what direction their marketing is headed...

Time and time again . . .

Postby Ysbryd-lochrann » Fri Mar 02, 2001 2:54 pm

Peter has demonstrated that he wants to give viewers something other than regular fantasy with its bright flashy colors and modern looks.
At first I thought, this is it? looking at the poster, but we will get one of these every month, so they can't give too much away. The background is amazing, and the light streaming over frodo is a great touch.

Not too much frodo:-)

Postby Elmtree » Fri Mar 02, 2001 4:08 pm

I think it looks great! Frodo certainly is central to the story, so it's fine to have his face filling up that screen. It's better than an overdone GIANT MONSTER RING THREATENS MIDDLE EARTH sort of thing.
And I agree that not emphasising the classic fantasy elements is a great move.
I love it.

SO EXCITED AND ELIJAH IS HOT

Postby RoseGamgee » Fri Mar 02, 2001 5:07 pm

This just makes me more excited for the film. I have anxiety for the film after seeing this. I also think that there is just the right amount of Frodo's cute face, if not enough. Oh, love is so sweet :)

They sure know what they're doing!!

Postby Lothlorien » Sat Mar 03, 2001 5:10 am

Well, my friends I must say that the people behind the marketing of the movie sure know what they're doing. I think the poster is great, it makes you wonder what the movie is all about , leaving a hint of mistery associated, so instead of flashy wars and lots of blood and monsters, the simplicity of the poster plays in it's favor.

Which is why we're discussing it

Postby Elemmire » Sat Mar 03, 2001 7:38 am

If it had been a run-of the-mill poster, it probably wouldn't have as much effect. As it is, it stands out because it only has one picture, containing a person holding a ring. Hopefully it will make more people wonder.

If I was an unknowing un-LOTR releated person . . .

Postby Ysbryd-lochrann » Sat Mar 03, 2001 2:33 pm

walking into a theater, here is what I would think, since I asked a person just that:
1.) Serious.THAT is not fantasy.
2.) Who is that person, and whats with the ring, and the stormy background?
4.) Is he good or bad?
5.) What is one ring ruling?
6.) Movie is this?
7.) Reminds me of some good movies that I have seen in the way it's advertised, but what is it!?

Hollywood crap

Postby Mithril » Sat Mar 03, 2001 7:50 pm

I don't know but that poster is sure pretty graphic and flashy, not at all matching the taste of Tolkien's book. Hell, of course hollywood doesn't care, all they care about is getting people to come and get money, money, money, money. They don't care one tad about keeping the holy book pure. They're gonna defile Tolkien's book.
2 is all they deserve.
