The giant Ent Treebeard, a walking tree creature from the classic fantasy story, could soon be strolling across Moseley village green.

It has been designed by the Moseley Statue Group, part of the local business association, to draw tourists and Lord of the Rings fans to the area.

And will link to the city's Tolkien trail, the series of sites, such as Sarehole Mill, from Tolkien's childhood in Birmingham which inspired his stories.

In a further link the statue, which will be sturdy stainless steel to make it vandal-proof, has been designed by the author's great nephew, metalwork sculptor Tim Tolkien.</p></blockquote><p> <a target="_blank" href="http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/mail/news/tm_headline=tolkien-giant-to-stalk-suburb%26method=full%26objectid=18681295%26siteid=50002-name_page.html">Read the entire article</a>

A HOOOM SIZED attraction!! Although he seems a little lonley among the buildings, Treebeard, seems to stand out and a great landmark for the Tolkien trail!!

Take a look at The Moseley Statue Group page http://www.moseleystatue.org/
more info and details on Treebeards creation!!
You can have a leaf inscripted... Ebay auctions...

Houm Hrom Hom! MMMMMbrburar!

Cast me in cold iron, you son of Saruman, is that what you do to show respect?

No joke, but the thought of a METAL ent is revulsive. It is in complete opposition with what Ents are. By all means, plant a wealth of trees where the statue is supposed to be and let them grow out of proportion.

Even if the statue turns out to be a nice work of art, even if it was designed by JRRT's grandson.

But then, I am a purist, so stone me dead, I deserve it.

Psssst! Grand-nephew. :)

I can see your point. :) Though on the other hand, isn't a metal Ent as symbol of Aule and Yavanna in harmony?
