Tolkien's worlds were birthed out of his love of language and his work at creating new ones. Enter into discussions surrounding Tolkien's languages.
Welcome to the Language Forum! Here are a few rules and guidelines to help keep this forum nice and tidy, as well as to keep all the members on the same page.
- I want a Tengwar TATTOO -
You are not the first person to want one. There are now two threads for Tengwar Transcriptions, which includes Tengwar for Tattoos. Please look through The Official Tengwar Transcription (and Tattoos) - I sticky thread located at the top of the forum; what you are looking for may already have been transcribed.
If you cannot find what you want, you can post your request for Tengwar in the new Official TENGWAR Transcription Thread (and TATTOOS) - II thread, also located at the top of the forum.
And please be patient, our transcribers are volunteers and are not online 24 hours a day. It may take a few hours, days or even a week or two, but they will try to answer.
MODERATORS NOTE: Requests are normally done in the order they are posted. If you book a tattoo appointment before your request has been done, it is not the Transcribers' problem.
- I want to learn Elvish -
All your questions and more will be answered in the Elvish Language FAQ. It provides helpful links and instructions to get you on your way! Good luck!
- Avoid posting redundant topics -
Before starting a new thread, please use the search function to see whether a thread on the same topic already exists.
- Translation and Transcription Requests -
All translation and transcription requests/questions must be posted in the "Official" threads. These are the threads where the translators/transcribers will be looking. Please place requests in the appropriate thread:
Sindarin Request Thread
Quenya Request Thread
Official Tengwar Transcription Thread (and Tattoos) - II
- Please avoid swooning -
Need we say more?
- Avoid ALL CAPS when naming your threads -
Shouting hurts our ears!
- Be nice to newbies -
The films have attracted a lot of new people to the world of Tolkien. Please be tolerant of those who ask questions that you've heard before or who haven't yet learned all the nuances of posting on TORC. The best way to demonstrate your knowledge and experience is to help them out.
- Non-Tolkien language threads -
There are several threads in this forum on some aspect or other of real-world languages, indexed below (updated March 2006). Feel free to start your own thread if there isn't one which covers what you want to post about. However, this forum is for expressing our love of languages, for asking about and discussing them - if you just want to chat in your native language please try the Talk forum.
